RFC: non-root ssh tun access
The attached patch is against openssh-4.3_p2 to allow non-root users to
vpn in over ssh. root access is still needed on client side (or an sudo
solution). Currently, I have it working with an sudo command to
configure a tap interface on the server side. eg to ssh into my gentoo
server:
# ssh -fw any:any user at ssh_server.box "sudo /etc/init.d/net.tap0 restart"
Then, configure the

tunnel device name acquisition?
Numerous how-tos all over the Internet show how one would set up
a tunnel using ssh, e.g.:
ssh -f -o Tunnel=ethernet <server_ip> true
I was wondering if there's a way to subsequently acquire the names
of the local and remote tun/tap interfaces (e.g., using the default
"-w any:any") for subsequent automatic tunnel configuration, e.g.:
ip link set $TapDev up
ip link set

Support for macOS feth devices
Hi,
I am currently using the L2 tunnel feature of ssh between two Linux
machines, and it works beautifully! As a result, I have come to prefer a
workflow that uses an L2 tunnel, but I can't seem to find a long-term
solution for this workflow on macOS. At the moment, tap devices on macOS
can be generated using a kernel extension like tuntaposx

OpenSSH_5.2p1. non-vpn login to root account requests TUN interface and cannot exit
Hello!
I've configured SSH-VPN between two subnets and it works fine. Option
Tunnel=yes in config file is set.
The problem I run into is that normal SSH login to root account does not
terminate on "exit" command.

pig> exit

OpenSSH VPN between Mac OS X and OpenBSD
Honestly, I'm probably not the best person to ask this. I really just
deal with network performance issues. You should try the OpenSSH
development group. I've cc:'d that group on this message.
However, a quick look at the code shows that you'd only be getting that
warning if both CUSTOM_SYS_TUN_OPEN and SSH_TUN_OPENBSD are not defined.
Grep on the first define we find the

libedit not found on SUse 11.1
Included below is a diff between the output from configure on a 64 bit
SUse 11.1 (doesn't find libedit) and a 64 bit Suse 10.3 (does find
libedit) for otherwise identical setups.
1. How can I get the output set up to look at conftest.c?
2. I added a set -x to configure above LIBEDIT_MSG=no
3. ./configure --with-ldflags="-L/usr/lib64" --with-cflags="-ggdb3

Patch for UnixWare 7
Hi,
I have ported OpenSSH-4.0p1 to UnixWare 7.1.4. Can you please add the
following for UnixWare 7 in the configure script:
Description:
+ cross compiler produces i386a.out.
+ libcrypt which needs to come after openssl's libcrypto.
+ passwd needs user name.
Thanks,
Ahsan Rashid

Here's a recipe for Samba+Active Directory on Solaris 9
Samba 3.0.22 on Solaris 9 with Active Directory

Dan Shearer

Official Samba binaries for Solaris 9 are not enabled for ADS
support. Enabling ADS is much harder than it looks, mostly because of
the crazy Solaris 9 build environment.
Here is the simplest reproducable recipe I could find for ADS-enabled

ssh hangs or gives Segmentation fault
Details of installation attached.
Effect: when I build and test (with full path names) ssh in the openssh...
directory, everything works fine. When I "install" it as per attached file
into a test-directory and run it from there, there are 2 phenomena:
either it just hangs, eating 96% of CPU
or it dies with a Segmentation fault (this is what happens most often)

openssh server and tun devices
If an ssh server receives a successful inbound ssh connection with 'ssh -w'
without a tunnel number specified (i.e. in 'any' mode), it allocates the
next tunnel device available on the server. The next thing the server
needs to do is to set up the tunnel device. How does the server know
which tunnel device was set up by the current connection? I'd really
like something
