forwarding stdin/out to remote socket
Hi!
Some vnc clients has '-via ssh_gateway' option to simplify the setup
of ssh port forwarding. Basically the option implements the following
3 steps:
1. Find local port available for listening.
2. Fork/exec ssh -L found_port:vnc_host:vnc_port ssh_gateway sleep some_delay
3. Connect to the found_port
Although convenient the setup has its problems. First, it exposes the

Commands failing silently?
Hello all:
I have a couple CentOS 4 servers (all up-to-date) that are having strange
command failures. I first noticed this with a perl script that uses lots of
system calls.
Basically, sometimes a command just won't run:
thoth(52) /tmp> ls
thoth(53) /tmp> ls
thoth(54) /tmp> ls
thoth(55) /tmp> ls

Three processes for each mongrel server?
Hi everyone. Zed, thanks for Mongrel. I''ve been running mongrel on my WiFi
cafe site (http://wifi.earthcode.com), and it''s been great. It handled a
front-page digg a few weeks ago without blinking.
However, I''m setting up a staging environment right now, and I''m getting
what looks like three mongrel processes *all listening on the same port* for
each mongrel

Browsing Issues
Hi - I'm having some problems with network browsing using a Samba PDC
(3.0.22) and I'd appreciate any hints that might push me in the right
direction. One of the problems is that I am on a very crowded subnet
that is being used by several different groups. There are a two
separate WinNT/2000-style domains active on this network as well as
an AD domain controller. Here are the

Xapian and Synonyms
Hi guys
I've just had a thought about something we do with our search on
ReportBuyer.com: we cater for both American and British English in our
searches and we have had plans for a while now to implement something
that allows users to find 'colour' and 'color', 'tap' and 'faucet' by
doing some clever programming.
Looking at the Xapian docs, though, it appears

Control multi-threading in standard matrix product
Hi Tomas,
Thanks for your answer.
Indeed, I checked and my R-3.4.1 installed from the ubuntu repository
use 'libopenblasp-r0.2.18.so' while my R-3.3.2 that I did compiled on my
machine use 'libRblas.so' which explain the difference of behavior.
I will use RhpcBLASctl to avoid issue when combining matrix product and
other multi-threading package.

Expected ... to define (rails version 1.2.2)
Hi, I''m having a mysterious problem that occurs when I''m using Rails
1.2.2. My app works fine when the environment.rb file reads:
RAILS_GEM_VERSION = ''1.1.6''
When I change this to:
RAILS_GEM_VERSION = ''1.2.2''
and try to load http://<mydevhost>:3000/srs/, I get the following

specifying ip when forwarding?
With openssh, i can use -L x:y:z to forward a local port x to the remote host
y's port z. If the sshd server has more than one IP, is there a way to specify
which it binds to when forwarding the connection?
If not, this may be a feature you should consider adding?

problem with X11 forwarding and use_localhost on Linux (solution)
On Linux (and others that define DONT_TRY_OTHER_AF)
x11_create_display_inet() will only use the first entry returned by
getaddrinfo(). When binding sockets to "ANY" this is fine on Linux
since a PF_INET6 socket bound to ANY will also include IPv4. However
when x11_use_localhost (X11UseLocalhost) is set, this is a problem.
getaddrinfo() will then return an AF_INET6 entry with IPv6 address

X11 forwarding problem
hi
i have problems with the X11 forwarding,
TCP port forwarding works fine:
the tcp ports bind to ipv4 and ipv6 localhost,
but the X11 port (6010) binds ONLY to the
ipv6 localhost, which does not work with
the normal ipv4 programs :-(
is this a bug, or is this an hidden feature

Bug#655301: Status check for Wheezy
There's no date defined yet, but Wheezy freeze will happen soon. How do
we plan on concluding on this bug report?
Recap for the actual bug I reported: If you want to start xapi, execute
the following steps:
1) Start /etc/init.d/xend
2) Stop /etc/init.d/xend
3) Start /etc/init.d/xcp-xapi
Step 1 is required because you need access to /proc/xen/
Step 2 is required because xapi cannot run

feature request
Hi,
how about to provide a simple way to forward raw file descriptors
through ssh tunnels.
something which may provide a way to write something like :
(echo 3; read > out3) |&
exec 3<&p 4>&p
echo 5 >| out5
exec 5<> out5
echo 1 |
ssh -d 3:rd -d 4:wr -d 5:rw '

Auth processes/login processes count
Hello Timo,
I'm running dovecot-1.2.12/Maildir/LDAP-passdb/LDAP-prefetched-userdb and I'm
experiencing "random" latency (which even seem to make squirrelmail timeout
sometimes) at login without noticing particular load on the server.
LDAP backends are running fine as far as I know so I was investigating maybe
mistuned limits :
Dovecot is configured (for ~3000 users) with

3.1p1 breaks X11 forwarding
I just recently updated to 3.1p1 and it seems that some X11 forwarding
connections are broken while others work. For instance xterm always
works fine. But Synchronize (group calendar program) always crashes
with the following error. This happens even if I disable access
control using 'xhost +'.
X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.

solaris and Remote Port Forwarding
Hello,
I just upgraded from 2.9p2 to 3.0.1p1 and good news. I don't have to
patch channels.c to get Remote Port Forwarding to work. That is
fantastic.
It appears, however, that -g still doesn't work. I checked the archives
and it doesn't look like anyone has mentioned it yet.
What does work is if I ssh to a machine I can telnet to localhost on
the forwarded port, but connecting to
