SFTP Logging
Hello everyone,
Has there been any thought given to giving the SFTP subsystem better
logging capabilities? We are looking to replace FTP, Telnet, and
Rexec completely, but our FTP is presently logged and any
replacement for it would also need to be logged. Specifically, we
need to know about file uploads and downloads, deletions. et cetera.
I've added some logging code to sftp-server.c,

SFTP Logging Redux.
Sorry to repost, but I finally have the code on a machine that has
diff -u, and I've updated it for 2.9p2. Attached is the unified
diff to add logging of SFTP activity to auth.info.
If there is a more proper way to contrib patches, please let me
know.
Cheers,
Jason

PATCH: sftp-server logging.
This is another take on logging for sftp-server. Given the number
of private email requests I've received for this patch, I assume
there is signifigant enough interest to request it be reviewed for
inclusion into the release.
The patch is against 3.1p1, and is completely disabled by default.
To enable logging, one must use compile time directives
(-DSFTP_LOGGING). This was done due to prior

sftp-logging patch and make tests problem
i tried the sftp-logging patch (v 1.3 from
http://sftplogging.sourceforge.net/download/v1.3/)
with OpenSSH 4.1p1 (and 4.0p1)
with the patch applied, all sftp tests
in "make tests" fail
(sfp exits with 255)
strace shows that there is a SIGCHLD immediately after
fork() in connect_to_server()
and sftp gets then killed by "SIGPIPE (Broken pipe)"

ForceCommand internal-sftp causes sftp logging to fail (openssh-5.0p1)
Hi guys,
I have a server setup with openssh-5.0p1 and use some users as
sftp-only chroot accounts.
The following configuration yields exactly the result I want:
user is chrooted, logs to syslog, all is good.

sftp-server "audit" logging
Hello
I would like to ask you for any assistance regarding sftp-server logging.
Till now i used openssh-4.4p1.sftplogging-v1.5.patch + openssh-4.4p1, that was later replaced by filecontroll patch. With openssh-4.4p1.sftplogging-v1.5.patch I could specify SFTP server logging in sshd_config like this:
LogSftp yes
SftpLogFacility LOCAL7
SftpLogLevel INFO
That did sftp logging like

openssh-5.0p1: sftp transfer logging doesn't appear to work with chroot environment
Hi all,
I am running Debian Etch. I've compiled openssh-5.0p1 with pam
support. I'd like to use a chrooted sftp environment for my users and
also log their sftp file transfers. Currently file transfer logging
stops working when I implement a jail. Logging from within the chroot
seems like a useful feature. I hope it makes it in sooner rather than
later.

sftp logging
hello!
i want to use the new options for sftp logging (openshh version 4.5,
solaris 10), but sshd doesn't know the options (LogSftp, Sftpxxxxx)
from the release notes 4.4:
"
* Add optional logging of transactions to sftp-server(8).

4.5 is only a bug fix version.

internal-sftp and logging not working with Fedora and chroot using 5.5?
Hope ya'all can help!
Been reading and reading, and adjusting... to no avail.
We need to have chroot'd SFTP activities logged on a file server and for
whatever reason, I simply cannot get it to log with users that are chroot'd
(this is necessary for auditing and HIPAA - so it is pretty important)
I have tried with Fedora 11/12 and even an older Fedora 8 server, the same
results:

I can not apply both patches : "revised patch, adding chroot option"
and
"sftp transaction logging". I try to apply it to openssh-4.3p2
(portable version) and cvs version (portable).

SFTP append patch
Hi,
We plan to do automated file transfers with SFTP where an uploaded
file is always appended on the server, and I made this patch to
support that. The patch
1. adds the "ap" command to the client (syntax just like the put command)
2. adds in both client and server support for the SSH2_FXF_APPEND flag
of the "pflags" field of the file open message.
Patch is against 4.0p1.

sftp logging, filenames with strange characters and parsing the logfile
Hi!
The OpenSSH sshd sftp function can be configured to send logging to syslog.
When a file is open'ed or closed with unexpected characters, those
characters are send directly to syslog, e.g. a file with a '"' in it:
Aug 21 17:09:11 test internal-sftp[10128]: open "/usr/home/test/te"st" flags WRITE,CREATE,TRUNCATE mode 0664
