Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using smbclient: smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation: \\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box) When I examined the samba log

SMB gurus: please help - I am desperate.
I apologize up front for re-posting this, but I need to find a solution to this problem. I have been having hard time to believe that there isn't one person among the SMB gurus that doesn't know how a W2K client connects to an SMB server. So, if you happen to know even the slightest hint to this baffling problem, I would be forever grateful. OK. Here goes (original subject line was:

Samba 4 vs UNIX password
Ok, now I'm stuck... We have several stand-alone UNIX (AIX) systems that we need to share a few SMB shares from. None of these are joined to our domain. We want the end-users to be able to map these shares to their Windows systems using the username in the form of AIXSERVER\username, and using the password from their local AIX account on the server. Asking the end-users to understand that

More than 10 open sessions
Hi, we use OpenSSH_3.8.1p1 and we would like to change the complete printer Spool communication from Unix r-Commands to ssh "OpenSSH". Sometimes, we have problems, because of very high connection set-ups in extremely short time intervals, more than 10 open sessions. The connection set-up is partly declined with the error message: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote

openssh debian bug?
I spent the last couple of hours trying to figure this out. We upgraded to sshd version OpenSSH_3.8.1p1 Debian and now "password" login no longer works... however keyboard-interactive login still works. the result of this is that while openSSH clients still function, ssh applications like MindTerm do not. here is the debug dump from the login session: Jun 25 21:47:50 m1

ipf stopped working on 5.3
I've had ipf working on a few 5.3 servers for quite awhile. Not too long ago some developers had to do some coding work and were coming from dynamic IP's. I (reluctantly) opened up SSH to the world. Immediately I started seeing the attacks where bots of some sort would try to break in with a variety of different users. So, I (thought) I closed it up again and told the developers to use a

ssh hangs up
Hi All, I set a cron to connect to a a server in every 10 minutes. Sometimes it hangs up and I can not find why. (Once or twice a day) I tried to set ServerAliveCountMax 3 and ServerAliveInterval 15 in ssh_config without any success. The only way to continue is killing the ssh process. How can I solve this? Any other ssh option that could help? What happens or should happen when it hangs?

winbind sometimes does not resolve sid to a name
Sometimes a group sid does not get resolved to its name. Is this a settings problem? Looks like winbind deamon went dormant for a while and then woke up? I am using interface wbcLookupSid provided by the library libwbclient.so for resolving sids to names. These are the winbind related parameters in /etc/samba/smb.conf [global] # separate domain and username with '\', like

OpenVMS SSH password expiry woes continue
I sent in a patch a week or so ago for a problem a customer of mine was seeing when trying to connect to their OpenVMS system with an 3.8.1p2 OpenSSH client (running on a linux box or in cygwin) and trying to login to an account who had an expired password. The problem continues although now it has nothing to do with what my patch handled as they have since upgraded their SSH software on the VMS
