Hi,
I'm sure you have all noticed the recentincrease in spam making
it through the list filters. I guess this is due to the spammers
adopting techniques specifically intended to evade SpamAssassin.
Over the next week, I will be adding add some extra anti-spam
measures to the list. Hopefully this will stop this abuse. Until
then, patience please.
Thanks,
Damien Miller

The list server at shorewall.net is seeing a small but steady stream of
quaranteened messages from anti-spam software that is asking the list
server to respond and thus register itself as a legitimate source of
email. I also receive these requests personally.

Call for testing: OpenSSH-6.0
Hi,
OpenSSH 6.0 is almost ready for release, so we would appreciate testing
on as many platforms and systems as possible. This release contains a
couple of new features and changes and bug fixes. Testing of the new
sandboxed privilege separation mode (see below) would be particularly
appreciated.

Openssh-2.1.0p1 test release
This to announce a test release of 2.1.0p1 before making it widely
available.
This release includes many fixes to problems reported over the last
week. In particular:
- spurious error and coredumps caused by the inbuilt entropy gathering
- RSAref detection
- Compilation fixes for Solaris and others
It also contains (completely untested) support for compiling without
RSA support. This may be

changing group for root
Hello All,
The changing of group for the root results in the following message with
OpenSSH 3.9p1
"permanently_set_uid: was able to restore old [e]gid"
The following change in uidswap.c fixes me the problem.
/* Try restoration of GID if changed (test clearing of saved gid) */
- if (old_gid != pw->pw_gid &&
+ if(getgid() != pw->pw_gid &&
(setgid(old_gid)

I want to keep the list as open as possible, but will close it if
it gets spammed repeatedly. My definition of "repeatedly" at the

FYI: Wiki account self-registration disabled
Unfortunately evil spammers have managed to defeat all the anti-spam
measures we've tried with the wiki. So it is with regret that we have
had to disable new wiki account self-registration.
We do still welcome contributions from anyone interested in adding
wiki content. We just ask that you send a mail to the main devel
