OpenSSH 3.8.1p1: call for testing
Hello All. Portable OpenSSH version 3.8.1p1 nearing release. This is primarily a bug fix release and we're asking for interested parties to try a snapshot [1]. A reminder: we rely on community feedback to find out about problems, particularly as there are many platforms any configurations that we don't have access to and can't test. In most cases, running the built-in tests is

argv[0] => host feature considered harmful
OpenSSH still has this feature, SSH-1.2.27 no longer has it. Admittedly it can be useful sometimes, even though I'd prefer this to be done using a trivial shell wrapper, which would be the UNIX way of doing things. Not being able to call OpenSSH's ssh by another name (say ``ssh1'') can get in the way when having to maintain two versions of ssh in parallel because the ``ssh ->

Hide unreadable, strange problem
The "hide unreadable = yes" option gives strange results with samba 3.x. Everything works fine when the server runs as a domain controller. Users see the directories they are supposed to (unix group permission) in the share. Turning off domain control and setting "security = DOMAIN", however, hides every directory in the share unless you are an admin user. I can cd to the

SOCKS support
Just a warning and a call to action: Theo de Raadt has convinced me to remove SOCKS support from our port of OpenSSH. His argument is that it can be easily and generically implemented as a ProxyCommand. This fits with my desire to keep our divergences from the OpenBSD codebase to a minimum. This looks like a few hours work (for someone more familiar the SOCKS API that I). It is basically a

Apache and SSLv3
Hi list, I'm configuring apache with https and I've a question about sslv3 deactivation. Running "openssl ciphers -v" I get a list of cypher suite of openssl like: ECDH-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 TLSv1.2 Kx=ECDH/RSA Au=ECDH Enc=AESGCM(128) Mac=AEAD ......... Each lines report relative protocol. Disabling sslv3 with "SSLProtocol all -SSLv3" I can use cypher like:

Erase the source file open; specify a tempfile name option
I'm curious how to go about submitting a suggestion that affects both the original BSD version and the portable release. A few days ago I sent off a BSD-relative patch to openssh at openssh.com. Is this the right thing to do? I didn't hear anything back, but it's only been 3 days, so I'm probably just being too antsy. In the meantime, maybe someone else out there would like to

Compiling 3.8p1 on AIX with IBM OpenSSL RPMs
Folks, I've just updated a machine to the latest IBM supplied OpenSSL RPMS: openssl-0.9.6m-1 openssl-devel-0.9.6m-1 (this is a power4 running AIX 5.1) and Tried to upgrade to the latest OpenSSH (3.8p1 - both the release and a snapshot from about a week ago) I'm using: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh --with-ssl-dir=/opt/freeware and the compilation seems OK: OpenSSH
