help page for anova.glm/variation between S-PLUS and R behavior
When using test="F" in stat.anova() / anova.glm(), R uses the assumed dispersion parameter for the specified family (e.g. scale=1 for binomial), while S-PLUS automatically uses the estimated dispersion parameter (residual deviance/residual df). I think there are good reasons for the behavior in R -- it fits with the "you get what you actually asked for" philosophy -- and

Hi, I think I've been hit by the problem described here: http://oldlook.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Linux_Networking/Q_20762641.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811169&Product=WinXP The server is Red Hat Linux 9, running samba samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0. We have client PCs running both Win98 and WinXP, but only the ones running WinXP display the problem.

WINE, PERVASIVE and ODBC
I have a proprietary piece of software written for a windows machine. When I run the ODBC interface so that I can set a DSN the connection works. However, when I run the program it cannot find the files and gives me an error stating that. Does anyone have experience with Pervasive DB's? Or maybe with getting programs like this one running under WINE? Thank you Jeff Whiteman System

Progress meter for ssh-keygen
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Attached is a patch to add a progress meter for ssh-keygen similar to the one in the commercial ssh1. Was this left out of the OpenBSD version because of security concerns? scp.c::okname() problem
Why does the local scp determine what characters are valid in a remote host userid? A friend of mine just had his ISP convert him to using a userid of the form 'user#isp-acct' (eg, "ssh -l 'joe#foo.org' foo.org" is used to login). The OpenSSH ssh and sftp commands both allow this form of userid. However, it seems that scp has its very own idea of what characters are

how to show a section of a matrix neatly (or row by row ) that satisfies some condition
You're missing a comma in the subscript. The comma tells it that your test is for the appropriate rows. You want: finest[finest[,1] > 10^3,] Hope this helps, Matt Wiener -----Original Message----- From: Edmond Ng [mailto:Edmond.Ng at lshtm.ac.uk] Sent: Monday, March 24, 2003 2:40 PM To: r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch Subject: [R] how to show a section of a matrix neatly (or row by row)

get current window (device) size
Dear R-listers, I am writing a function that will generate a simple plot for the user . The size of the window (that contains the plot) may not be what the user wants. Supposing the user adjusts the window to a size of her/his choice, I would like to be able to save the new window size and specify the plot to be of this new window size when the user calls my function again. My question is

allowing individual level correlations to differ by cluster in lme in R
Dear R-listers, I am fitting bivariate mixed models for cost-effectiveness data of cluster randomized trials using lme in R. So I have individuals nested within clusters. My response variable is a vector with bivariate response (individual level costs and effects) stacked into a single column. The covariates in my models are a constant and a treatment term. They are response-specific, e.g. a

openSSH versions
Hi, I notice here: https://www.openssh.com/releasenotes.html That the versions always have a <number> and a <number>p1. Does the p1 indicate a patch? So does it mean that <number> and <number>p1 are two different versions? It doesn?t describe the differences between the two in case they are different versions. I would appreciate some clarification. Thanks, Roee.

how to show a section of a matrix neatly (or row by row) that satisfies some condition
Hi all, I want to show the rows of a matrix (100x3) of which some of its elements satisfy a certain condition. In particular, how can I display the 2 rows of my matrix one after the other and not all all elements of column 1 first, then column 2 and so on.
