Microsoft .NET Framework Redistributable Package
Has anyone sucessfully installed and execute the Microsoft .NET Runtime under WINE? If not, is it even possible? I would be willing to even run the system in Win95/WinNT compatibility should it be necessary.

try Again?: Setting up net of W2K boxes with Samba PDC
OK: Here's my question.
I am setting up a brand new PDC and network of
(ugh) between 20 and 50 win2k clients, and want a samba server.
I'd like to be able to set this up so all admin is done on the samba server.
Is this where I would use Winbind?
Can someone point me to a good tutorial?
Users will be in different user groups. and must be able to log on with profile from any

Windows UIDs
hi all.
how does samba create its uids and gids from the windows domain? and what can i do to prevent it 'dropping' these mappings?
i've set up windows 2003 sfu to allow samba to map to the uid stored in active directory (by using sfu nis), is this the safest way to ensure folder permissions remain constant or am i being unnecessarily scared? :-)

Routing
Hi Everyone,
Could someone tell me whether Tinc builds its own routing table to 'hop' between LANs?
e.g.
LAN A <--> LAN B <--> LAN C
Would Tinc resolve a path between LAN A and LAN C automatically (i.e. to hop over LAN B)?
Or would I need to setup routing tables for this myself?

pblms with samba 2.X /3.x and NT--W2k
There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong somewhere.
EITHER a WHOLE bunch of us are stupider than we thought, the documentation left off a step, or there is something SO blatently obvious that we are ALL staring it in the face and missing it inches in front of our faces.
This is exactly what I've had, (BUT I *D*I*D* have it running ok ...)
and I STILL havent figured it out yet,...

I just searched the samba website,
and I couldnt find any reference to spnego except for a slide show (samba-lwny.ag ) that I can't open.
ANYWAY. since I can't find any reference to the spnego parameter, could someone explain what it is, what it does, and HOW it can help us "stupid" people? It doesnt seem to be a parameter I've come across before..

sampling and nls formula
Hello,
I am trying to bootstrap a function that extracts the log-likelihood value and the nls coefficients from an nls object. I want to sample my dataset (pdd) with replacement and for each sampled dataset, I want to run nls and output the nls coefficients and the log-likelihood value.

are --temp-dir and --daemon mode compatible options
Hi,
As far as I can tell, after version 2.6.4, the "--daemon" and "--temp-dir" options are not compatible anymore. Previous versions allow this. We use this heavily at my site. Is this an intentional change or bug?
My command to start the daemon is this:
/usr/local/bin/rsync --temp-dir=/.rsyncd-spool --daemon

my trusted accounts had names too long (>14 characters) (1)
and there was a CAPS issue, make sure all is correct,
even if windows forces caps when you're using lowercase.

[Flac-users] trouble with flac -d --until=n
Hi,
I've noticed some strange behavior with flac 1.1 - first on NetBSD 1.6
and then on Solaris 9.
When I decode a flac with the --until=n option, the file decodes
normally, but pauses for a long time on the "99% complete" stage
while consuming a lot of CPU.

Tinc OSPF involving bridge

I have a routing situation where Tinc looks like it could come in extremely useful, but I have a query I hope someone can cast an eye on, as I'm unsure whether Tinc can help me here.

i've got it up and running now- unfortunately one of the windows machines i was testing it with has cost me a couple of hours as it just kept hanging. a fresh install worked straight away- grrr!
it seemed to prefer my security setting to be domain, but of course as the machine was messing me about i'm not sure if that's necessary or not.

I''m a relative newbie to rails, but the controller and the helper seem to be pointing to the right places.
