Is OpenSSH vulnerable to the ZLIB problem or isn't it?
SSH.COM says their SSH2 is not vulnerable to the ZLIB problem even though they use the library (details below). Can OpenSSH say the same thing? In either case, it seems like there ought to be an openssh-unix-announce message about what the situation is. I may have missed it, but I don't believe there was one. Yes, openssh doesn't have its own copy of zlib source but it would still be

Changing owner/group on samba share
I've looked around and can't find the answer. We have a Samba file server joined to our Active Directory and using ACLs. We are enforcing quotas on this machine, but when specifying the home directory, the directory is owned by the person who created it. Using Windows and going into the security permissions, there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the owning user/group. When you hit

More failover issues
In 1.6.0, when creating a MDT, you could specify multiple --mgsnode options and it would failover between them. 1.6.3 only seems to take the last one and --mgsnode=192.168.1.252 at o2ib:192.168.1.253 at o2ib doesn''t seem to failover to the other node. Any ideas how to get around this? Robert Robert LeBlanc College of Life Sciences Computer Support Brigham Young University leblanc at

Convert idmap_rid to idmap_hash?
I was looking through the change log of 3.3.0 and noticed that a new idmap_hash was introduced that seems to play well with trusted domains. What means are available to convert all my rids to this new hash so I can update file permissions? Microsoft OneNote 2007 painfully slow
We have a user trying to share a OneNote 2007 notebook and it takes minutes to load a 20 KB notebook. I've opened a 500 KB Excel spreadsheet from the same share and it took seconds. Has anyone else run into this problem? We are running Samba 3.4.8 on Debian Squeeze. Thanks, Robert LeBlanc Life Sciences & Undergraduate Education Computer Support Brigham Young University

secureid and CA
Hello to all the Great "crypto" People (... my first time in this list ..) I'm trying to compile openSSH-3.4p1 with the SecureID patch taken from: http://www.omniti.com/~jesus/projects/openssh-3.4p1+SecurID_v1.patch I'm having trouble to compile the patched openSSH over the Cygwin platform. this is probably since there is no cygwin SecureID agent available , so i'm using the

Missing files and folders on Vista
Hello everyone. I'm having a small problem while using samba 3.0.30 on FreeBSD that two months of googling haven't managed to fix: when a folder contains two many elements, Vista only lists a small amount of them. I made my tests with a folder containing around 1000 sub-folders (which have the same unix file mode). Vista was first only showing around 250 of them. After upgrading samba

winbind + Active Directory + email
Ok, I can't seem to search for the right thing to get what I need. I'm looking for a solution where if quota or some other mailing system needs to send an email to an Active Directory user, that it uses the email address listed in Active Directory for that user. We are connected to Active Directory using winbind, on one system we are using pam_winbind, on another we are not. Of course,

Ideas for distributed Samba servers
I'm trying to think about how to setup a Samba system and would like to pick the brains of some experts. We are looking up put a large amount of storage ~75TB in a central data center. We have some remote (ok, not remote, but across slower links, ok if you consider several hundred clients over 1Gb to be slow) locations that we would like to set up samba servers that 'cache' the file

sip tone question
Hello All, We are running Asterisk on a linux server as a SIP proxy with Cisco ATA 186's at the subscriber end. For long distance we have iax2 connectivity with a ip carrier. For local calls we are routing out through a commercial VEGA voicestream pots unit to an adtran channel bank and then from there to our class 5 soft switch. The sip to sip calls and the long distance calls work great.

OpenSSH 3.7 released (fwd)
Since there never was an answer on the secureshell at securityfocus.com list to this question, I thought I'd ask you guys on your own list and maybe I'll even get an answer. If the answer involves PAM in any way, then the most obvious question becomes "what about IRIX, Tru64, or any other platforms whose login procedure does not have PAM?". ----- Forwarded message from Atro

Key preference
Hello everybody, I have a problem specifying identities with the -i option. For easier ssh invocations, I have setup my ssh_config files with entries like the following: Host *.domain.name Port 23457 StrictHostKeyChecking yes UserKnownHostsFile /dev/null GlobalKnownHostsFile /etc/ssh/known-hosts/domain.name IdentityFile ~/.ssh/%h-dsa IdentityFile ~/.ssh/%h-rsa IdentityFile

Kerberos and 2008 AD troubles
I've been trying to get Kerberos to work for the last couple of days so that we can use SSO. I can't seem to get past a roadblock and Google doesn't seem to provide any answers. I've got Samba connected to the AD and running. I can wbinfo everything and can login to the machine using PAM with the pam_winbind modules just fine. I can get user tickets just fine. When I try to get ssh

rsync creates wrong sized files
I'm having a pretty serious rsync bug, which I've submitted to the Debian bug system. But as the rsync maintainer there seems to be a bit slow in fixing problems, I thought perhaps I should report it here as well. I'm using rsync 2.6.2 on a Debian woody system, with libc 2.2.5. I have rsync running daily to mirror the Debian archives, mainly for i386 files. The command I use is

Shadow Copy and Windows 7
Before I beat myself over this... Iv'e set-up shadow_copy2 and it works great for XP,2003,Vista and 2008. Windows 7 however does not find any previous versions of the files. Issues when volume is full
I''ve been using btrfs as a spool space on our back-up server to get familiar with it and things work fine until the volume fills up. Our backup software (bacula) usually spools until the volume is full, then despools and respools, etc. With btrfs, it fills up and bacula thinks there is still space so it keeps trying and then finally errors out. I thought this was a problem because I was

Security implications of using ControlMaster
Dear Mailing List We are using a ControlMaster with a short ControlPersist to access the bastion host which then gives access to customer hosts. Our Information Security Manager would like to disallow the ControlMaster. His attack scenario is an admin workstation with a compromised root account. An attacker can then use the ControlMaster to trivially get shell access on the bastion host

[beldridg@best.com: Re: [fw-wiz] SecureID vs Certificates]
Hmmm... You guys aware of this project to incorporate Smart Cards into ssh-agent? I remember hearing about some stuff for OpenSSL, but I don't recall hearing about this on the OpenSSH list or on the Muscle list. This would be a really nice thing... :-) Mike -- Michael H.
