hi
Ok, I've now got more info. Doing smbclient -L blackfang returns the
following error. unknown name switch type dns. session setup failed.
NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. This is frustrating. Isn't this supposed to
work regardless of whether I have an account on the machine I'm trying
to connect to? Hear's what I'm trying to do. I'm basically trying to
configure samba, however I

Samba 4.2 extremely slow with (some) XP & Seven boxes

maybe debian bug #827141 is relevant … we've seen similiar symptoms,
recompiling samba and friends with the patch mentioned there restored
the behaviour we got with pre-badlock 4.1.17. it boils down to winbind
not re-using signed&sealed connections when pulling user information
from the ad, which seems to

new user introduction, and a few questions
hi all
My name is Kendell Clark, and I've just subscribed to this list. I
thought I'd write this email to introduce myself, and ask a couple of
questions about configuring samba. I'm a co developer of a linux
distribution for the visually impaired and disabled called Sonar GNU
linux, which you can learn more about at http://www.sonargnulinux.com.
I've been struggling to come up

hi
Basically I'm trying to come up with a default config file that will
allow people to access their stuff that reside on windows computers,
macs or linux computers from across the network. I know windows uses the
"WORKGROUP" name by default unless you change it, but one thing I've
noticed is that samba can't simply query windows for the info it needs,
it has to be set

Samba 4.4 hidden share with $
Hi,
I have a question, hidden shares with $ in samba 4 seems that are not
showed when you try to connect to samba server and view from windows
shares, is this a bug or I have a problem with my configuration?
Thanks

hi
Not just yet. I've set up a windows 10 instance on my desktop to test
with. It's not activated so I've got a month to test, will probably only
keep it around a couple of days. How is windows doing this? When I go to
connect to mellisa's computer which is running windows 7, even with the
workgroup name changed from the default windows finds it and connects. I
try the same

hi
Lol, thanks for the docs. I'll read them. If possible I'd like to add
this into the default samba config file that's shipped with sonar. Is
this a good idea? I've gotten some responses that say it's not a good
idea to have a default samba config and then I've gotten some that say
it is. I'm not sure which way to go but I'd like to have one that will

hi
Completely agree about windows. From what I'm hearing on this list
there's no "default" file that will do what I want? If I'm understanding
this right it's not how samba is configured so much as it is what the
gui tools will let me do? I use the mate desktop, with the caja file
manager and it's caja share extension. I've tried a few things,

Samba 4.2 extremely slow with (some) XP & Seven boxes
Hi there,
After an upgrade our fileservers to samba 4.2.10 (debian package), some
(but no all) of our XP and Seven boxes are extremely slow. Toggling
"require strong key" to no does not help. Our DC are still 4.1.17
(debian package)
Is there any known issue?

IPv6 broken under AIX?
I've tried to get OpenSSH_3.7.1p2 to work over IPv6 under AIX 5.1.0 and
5.2.0 without success. If I configure sshd to listen to an IPv6 address
it will take the uppermost 32 bits of the IPv6 address and interpret it
as an IPv4 address.
sshd_config:
------------
ListenAddress [2001:6b0:b:1::133]
ListenAddress 130.238.4.133
ListenAddress 172.17.1.2

Problems with PAM and PermitRootLogin without-password
Hello all,
I was running some tests with openssh 3.7.1p2 and I noticed that
PermitRootLogin without-password does not work when PAM is enabled. In
fact, when PAM is enabled, PermitRootLogin will work as "yes" if "
without-password" is used, no matter what kind of authentication is used
for root login. Is that a bug, I missed something in the configurations,
or expected

Bug Report
To Whom It May Concern:
I am running OpenSSH_3.7.1p2 on an HPUX 10.10 operating system. I recently converted my OS to a trusted system, which, among other things, shadows passwords in the /etc/passwd file. In order to shadow the user passwords, a '*' character is used. Unfortunately, the documentation for sshd states that, for HP operating systems, a '*' character in the

Announce Openssh with telnet
Hi,
I would not consider it a real bug, or security problem, but I wonder, why my
sshd declares itself when I do a telnet on port 22:
telnet localhost 22
Trying ::1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.7.1p2
Would it not be better, not to show anything at all, so that someone just
trying, whats up on port 22 does not see what programm with witch

(Trivial oddity) Old version in Portable CVS HEAD
I assume this is a branching issue, but in case anyone else notices, CVS
HEAD currently declares itself as OpenSSH_3.7.1p1, not OpenSSH_3.7.1p2. The
3.7.1p2 tarball has the correct version.
It'll be interesting to watch my logs and see who tries to exploit my
server based on banner version ;-)

Slow uploading with sftp
Hi,
I'm observing a nasty and strange behaviour with OpenSSH
(SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.7.1p2) on Solaris 8 (Sparc). I searched the FAQ and
list archive and I didn't find anything about it.
The problem is that uploading through sftp is tremendously slow (~
0.2KB/s) while downloading is ok (~ 200-300 KB/s), so I'm quite surprised.
The machines I tested (client & server) are all in the

extra groups passed by openssh - security issue?
I would appreciate your opinion on a problem with sshd on Linux,
when running under daemontools supervise.
The configuration:
sshd version OpenSSH_3.7.1p2
Redhat Linux 2.4.20-8smp #1 SMP i686
supervise / daemontools-0.76
I see the following behavior regarding groups:
-bash-2.05b$ ssh mschulz at localhost id -Gn
id: cannot find name for group ID 201
id: cannot find name for group ID 2039
