Portable OpenSSH and GSSAPI
Dear developers, I am already playing with openssh + heimdal krb5 + gssapi on Tru64Unix 5.1a and Irix 6.5.20, but with no much success. The worst problem I experience is following: - gethostbyname on tru64unix returns short host name instead of fqdn. But even if I overcome this problem by appending the domain name to the lname variable in gss-genr.c file and get over this problem, gss-api does

samba3 and kerberos authentication of users
Hi all, this is probably VFAQ, but I never found a working solution. I have a standalone samba server running samba ver. 3. In the network, we have heimdal kerberos used to authenticate users for pop3,imap,web-based applications etc. Now I would like to make the samba communicating with kerberos kdc so there will no longer be users in smbpasswd with separate passwords outside of kerberos. I

GSSAPI Kerberos Differences between 5.1p1 and 5.2p1?
Hello, I'm trying to find clues on what may have changed for GSSAPI (Kerberos) authentication between OpenSSH 5.1p1 and 5.2p1. We have been using GSSAPI authentication for ssh for about 18 months with no problem with the OpenSSH build that is bundled with the FreeBSD operating system. All of those machines have OpenSSH 5.1p1. Last week I upgraded one of the servers to FreeBSD 8.0-BETA1

kerberos + gssapi password change
Hello I am not a developer, but since this is a more advanced issue I rather post to this list than to the users list, I hope this is OK. We are currently running openssh with simon's gssapi patch and want to move towards the new integrated solution with openssh-3.7.1p2. A problem we experienced in both versions of openssh is that we are not able to change the kerberos password, when it

LinuxPAM woes on the 3.6 series of openssh portable - strange behaviour
All, I hate to ask what's going to boil down to a configuration issue (I think)... and before I start pouring through the code I'm hoping someone can just point out what's going on. Essentially, on a particular "flavor" of our redhat linux 8 boxes PAM always seems to be called/fail before any real authentication takes place. On other boxes, this is not the case. Normally

intermittent problems obtaining shell with gssapi-with-mic
Hi, I am seeing a rather strange issue with openssh-5.3p1 (both client and server) under scientific linux 6. The systems in question are set up to authenticate against a Kerberos server. ssh'ing between machines works fine 99% of the time with the gssapi-with-mic method. But on occasion an ssh session will fail to spawn a sheel for the user after authentication. An example -vvv output in this

addendum to syslinux/ tftp-hpa docs
After a few days of troubleshooting, we finally determined why we were having problems. It seems as though the tftp-hpa daemon requires the MTU of the interface it's running on to be >= 1500. We had the MTU set at 1400 (don't ask why) and the PXE client was receiving fragmented packets and failing. As soon as we set it to over 1500, it worked fine. hpa, Could you please update

Addendum to my post re: BrookTrout TR1034 T.38
Don't want the opening line of my post to be misconstrued. "Anyone familiar with the BrookTrout TR1034 Fax Board, supports T.38 and PSTN fax in an Asterisk environment?" That's a question, not a statement. Curious if anyone has played with one of these as an extension of an Asterisk server for T.38 faxing, did not mean to imply it could, should or would play well with

Missing "ISO8859-1.so" on Tru64Unix
Hello, I am testing Samba 3.0.0 on a Tru64Unix v 5.1b. I compile it with gcc et gnumake. I am able to start it and I can see a share. Until now, I have only one problem: Logs are full of messages like "Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/ISO8859-1.so': dlopen: Can't open needed library: /usr/local/samba/lib/charset/ISO8859-1.so" In fact, I don't find

windows workstations needing reboot to validate passwords. --ADDENDUM
I am (earlier reported under the subject "Peculiar Problem") having an issue that started several weeks ago, where windows (10 pro, server 2019) computers randomly get into a state where they refuse to validate passwords. Rebooting (sometimes several times) makes the problem go away. You can also log in if you disconnect the PC from the network and then reconnect. List of changes around

Have you setup Samba audit logging? Addendum to previous email re: "Wasted Space"
Also, it's important to note that 'du -h' reports the appropriate amount of space used and that the drive appears, in all other regards, to be properly using the space. Is this perhaps a bug with how Windows reads the available space left on SMB shares? (Likely a Windows problem) -Tal

Shorewall 2.2.0 Beta 7 Addendum
I missed a couple of new features: 1) You can now use the "shorewall show zones" command to display the current contents of the zones. This is particularly useful if you use dynamic zones (DYNAMIC_ZONES=Yes in shorewall.conf). Example: foo:/etc/shorewall # shorewall show zones Shorewall-2.2.0-Beta7 Zones at foo - Sat Nov 27 9:18:05 PST 2004 loc
