AIX openssh use of SRC control
I'm new to using openSSH on AIX and want to know how others
are launching and maintaing sshd. I see where sshd has a -i option
for use with inetd, but I am thinking about adding the AIX SRC APIs
so that I can use the commands:
lssrc, startsrc and stopsrc to maintain the daemon.

Scads of defunct processes ins AIX 4.3.3
I hope someone can help. I've installed 2.9p2 on a number of AIX boxes and
it works great.
The problem is that a HUGE >700 number of defunct processes get generated
by sshd. Did I do
something wrong ? Any suggestions ?
Please email chuck at fiu.edu as I don't subscribe to the list.
TIA,
Chuck

running sshd under AIX 4.3.3 ?
Hi,
If anyone has managed to get sshd to run as a subsystem in the System
Resource Controller under AIX 4.3.3 (a la mkssys), then please let me know
how you did it...
I can mkssys and startsrc it, but it dies immediately, leaving a child sshd
running with another PID than startsrc reported, and lssrc reports sshd
inoperative.
Is sshd a process that should stay in foreground, not forking? Or does

My guess is that you started sshd using "sshd" (either from within
/usr/local/sbin or with it in your PATH).

Call for testing for 3.6
We are heading into a lock here. So we need to get people to test their
respective platforms if they wish them to be supported out of the tar file.
So if you have any patches you need to ensure your platform works speak
up. We are looking at a lock on the 17th.
I believe I have an AIX/Cray patch and a Tru64 patch sitting in my mailbox
that I'll be looking at soon and more than likely

AIX starting and stopping samba from command line
All:
I am running on an AIX 5.3 platform and I am looking to see if anybody has a script similar to this (see below) that will work under AIX.
My goal is, on boot up I want to have samba started automatically. Can somebody let me what I have to do (on AIX) for this to happen.
#!/bin/sh
#
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb - starts and stops SMB services.

Possibly dumb questions about DC and user/system limits
Because of user access growth, the number of processes associated with
IMAP has increased and I thought to change some of the configured

Antwort: Re: AIX openssh use of SRC control
Hi
I've finished and tested a patch to add src routines to openssh (based on the Redbook "Writing Reliable AIX Daemons")
Since a few days I have the O.K. to post it on the list, but I still want to splitt my patch file into logical parts
(SRC/Logging/Datatype fixes)

ubuntu doesn't daemonize smbd
OK, not exactly a samba issue but maybe the Ubuntu maintainer reads
this list and can provide some input.
Problem: Ubuntu doesn't daemonize smbd.
System: Ubuntu Lucid where a recent update moved many startup scripts
into the "upstart" system.
Now smbd is started and runs as "smbd -F". If I edit the upstart
script (/etc/init/smbd.conf) so that it runs as "smbd

Password problem ..... can't share files ..
My purpose to have a samba server is to share files across UNIX and NT
servers. I want to be able to mount NT directories/files over to UNIX
system and vice versa. I have RS/6000 machine running AIX 4.2 (will be
upgraded to 4.3 soon)
After trying a few times, i have finally installed samba in AIX machine. I
have installed an older version 2.0.0 as only this version support AIX 4.2

Thunderbird Will Not Download Email Until Computer Is Rebooted
Hey Guys,
Have any of you seen an issue with Thunderbird in which the computer has
to be rebooted for email to be downloaded? I have been looking over the
InterWebs and I cannot find anything. I can see new email on the server
as well. Where would be a good place to start for troubleshooting this
issue?
Thanks

Virtual Machines Stay Off If Rebooted
Hello,
I am using libvirt on Ubuntu 10.04 Server and the following versions of these packages:
libvirt-bin, libvirt0, python-libvirt - 0.7.5-5ubuntu27.22
qemu-kvm 0.12.3+noroms-0ubuntu9.18
Recently, when restarting a VM (either by issuing "sudo reboot" on a Linux guest or choosing "Restart" from the Start Menu on a Windows guest) the VM shuts down and remains off rather

Asterisk run problem, was working, rebooted server, now nothing
I've copied over all the asterisk configuration settings. There was nothing decent to see in the logs, so I didn't copy those.

Strange issues with newly rebooted machine
Hi all,
After being up and running for almost 2 years, we finally had to
reboot one of our servers. Now, however, it's having "problems."
We're using real-time configuration for SIP peers and voicemail, via ODBC.
But when I run "sip show peers" I don't get anything. Even when I
load a known peer by name, nothing happens:
sip show peer voice12 load

Server rebooted, log message "kernel: Keepalive, Event:mdseve_cookie, client ping timeout"
Hi. Our CentOS 5.4 server just rebooted sponteneously while doing heavy I/O.
There is a message in /var/log/messages just prior to reboot,
kernel: Keepalive, Event:mdseve_cookie, client ping timeout
Google does not turn up anything. What does this mean and how can I prevent
it from happening again, please?
Best,

server rebooted email
I used to put a line in rc.local to email root that my server rebooted.
Does anyone have a nice systemd unit file to do the same?
Also useful would be a shutdown email with the output of uptime. (I usually
do that manually when rebooting for a kernel update.)

rebooted windows , now can't login to samba
Hello,
I am using unencrypted passwords with and have updated my Win2k registry
for plain text passwords. Before I rebooted I was able to logon to our
windows domain and then access Samba shares with the same username and
password.
Now, after I have rebooted I am presented with a logon screen but my
username and password are not accepted. Any ideas?

Samba 3.6.22 corrupting filesystem on AIX
Hi,
I have compiled then installed Samba 3.6.22 on my AIX 5.2.
When I start SMBD it systematicaly corrupts the filesystem on which it
is installed and fails to start
I start SMBD on an other port because an old samba (2.2.8) is already
running and I have to validate 3.6.22 before shuting down the old one.
You'll see more informations bellow :
- smbd output
- IBM errpt corruption report
