Offtopic: improving softphone latency on Linux?
Hi folks last weekend, I tried Windows Messenger first time and was stunned by the little latency it gives. Until now, I've been using softphones on Linux exclusively, like iaxcomm, linphone and sjphone, and they all give me about 1, at times even 2 secs delay. Whereas Messenger really seems to be in the millisec range. Of course, I'm now curious why there is that difference. Clearly,

rebelotte samba et les accents....je m'en sort pas
Bonjour, je reviens ? l'attaque avec mes probl?mes d'accents sous samba. RAID-10 vs Nested (RAID-0 on 2x RAID-1s)
Greetings- I'm about to embark on a new installation of Centos 6 x64 on 4x SATA HDDs. The plan is to use RAID-10 as a nice combo between data security (RAID1) and speed (RAID0). However, I'm finding either a lack of raw information on the topic, or I'm having a mental issue preventing the osmosis of the implementation into my brain. Option #1: My understanding of RAID10 using 4

[LLVMdev] Porting LLVM backend is no fun yet
Hi Greg, I understand your frustration. I've been on this mailing list for a little over a year hoping that by osmosis I could get a a better handle on writing a back end for LLVM. Although I feel more comfortable with the nomenclature, I still do not have a clue as to how to begin (actually I do, but it sounds more dramatic saying it this way). I've read the documentation, but

Conservancy (home of Samba) needs support for GPL enforcement.
Hi all, You may not know, but The Software Freedom Conservancy is the legal home of the Samba project. However, most Linux-using corporations *really* hate GPL enforcement. To the point where they'll pull funding for diversity programs and try and get conference talks cancelled. I hope Samba users will help support Conservancy so it can continue doing vital work for us and other projects.

How to describe the RegisterInfo?
Yes, the arch is just as you said, something like AMD GPU, but Intel GPU don't have separate register file for 'scalar/vector'. In fact my idea of defining the register tuples was borrowed from SIRegisterInfo.td in AMD GPU. But seems that AMD GPU mainly support i32/i64 register type, while Intel GPU also support byte/short register type. So I have to start defining the registers from

Rsyncing Windows directory to a Linux box: problem with spaces in directory names
Hello, I am trying to rsync folders/files hosted on a Windows machine to a Linux machine. Many of the directory names have spaces in them. How can I list them in a file so that the --include-from option use them correctly? Thanks! Charles -- Charles-E. Nadeau Ph.D http://radio.weblogs.com/0111823/

Equivalent between rsync -aHr and cp -al
Hi, Just a quick question. I am looking for a replacement for the command "cp -al" which has problems dealing with a massive amount of files (http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2003-12/msg00028.html). Could I use "rsync -aHr" to do _exactly_ the same thing as "cp -al"? I just want to make sure before trying it. Thanks for your help. Charles --

offlineimap with dovecot and sieve
I have a dumb question, is it possible to use this combination: Synchronising a remote IMAP-server and a local dovecot-IMAP-server by offlineimap (with both types = IMAP), which works very well. But it seems, that my sieve-scripts on the local dovecot server are not recognised by this combination. Is there a good debugging way for this? -- Dieter Faulbaum Elektronenspeicherring BESSY II

Downsampling
Ok, this is slightly offtopic, but relates to the quality of input for speex :) I'm working on echo cancellation by means of sampling the wave mix of the sound card as well as the microphone. I originally had two sound cards, which had some synchronization problems (now solved, more or less), but I have also discovered a much better solution using ASIO 2.0, which enables me to sample

C-index and Cox model
Dear all R users, I am building a Cox PH model on a small dataset. I am wondering how to measure the predictive power of my cox model? Normally the ROC curve or Gini value are used in logistic regression model. Is there any similar measurement suitable for Cox model? Also if I use C-index statistic to measure the predictive power, is it a time-dependent value (i.e. do I need to calculate it for

Downsampling
Hi, For transforming stereo to mono, averaging is fine and that's what everybody does. For sampling rate conversion, it's another matter (too long for this email) and you should read a bit about it a perhaps grab a library that does that. As for echo cancellation, it will be less complex (and as good) on a (cleanly) down-sampled signal (and certainly not on stereo). Jean-Marc Le mardi

Ogg Voxpop
I have been thinking about what is needed to make language teaching/learning tools. (Like talking flash cards.) The main thing needed is a low bit-rate encoding of human voice. At first I thought I could take one of the gevernment standard vocoders and embed it as an Ogg stream. But: (1) there is not a standard vocoder, there is are half a dozen, at least. (2) they are fixed bit rate, we

add=TRUE function not working

This is my code and the error associated with it: plot(p, q, data=columns) > plot(pprime,q, add=TRUE) Warning messages: 1: In plot.window(...) : "add" is not a graphical parameter 2: In plot.xy(xy, type, ...) : "add" is not a graphical

[EXTERNAL] Re: Submitting a patch that exposes VAD voiced/unvoiced signal type
Hi Peter, Can you say a little bit more about what you're doing exactly with the information you're exposing and how? unfortunately, I don't have a concrete proposal in mind right now. That's in part because I don't quite understand the use case, but also because it's really hard to expose this kind of information in a way that both avoids breaking application with new
