Why is my rsync transfer slow?
I run a rsync job transferring about 45 million files/approximately 1.8 TB data (a Mac OS X Time Machine backup) over a 100 MBit connection. I use rsync 3.1.1 from MacPorts (I first tried the built in rsync, version 2.6.9, since it has a Mac OS X specific cache parameter, but it ran out of memory) with the following parameters % rsync -HzvhErlptgoDW --stats --progress --out-format="%t %f

Samba and Cups interaction
While trying to solve my printer problem, I have come up with another question that Google is not helping me with. What happens to a print job after Samba submits it to Cups? Is it 'finished' even though Cups is still printing it? Is that why my users aren't seeing their print jobs, because Cups has already snatched them and Samba assumes they are done? I would much rather if

Best way to structure this?
I''m thinking of an application in which a user can request for different items (like office stationery). So, I have a table of users and a table of requests. The thing is that depending on the item requested, the parameters are different - for example, pens may have {colour, width, type} while paper may have parameters such as {colour, size (A4, letter, legal), stack size,

How to retrieve a vector of a data.frame's variable attributes?
Hi, I have a data.frame with 100 variables and I have assigned a "label", "units" and "category" attribute to each variable. I would like to reorder the variables in the data.frame by the "category" attributes but can't find a way. For example, the first variable is: > attributes(hh$aez) $levels [1] "coastal" "forest"

NFS Client to Server User Mapping / how to configure for user-IDs
Hallo, we ve a central Cent7 system working as NFS server. Everything works fine with simple configurations like one client is mapping a share and several clients are mapping a share to edit one or more files wotling as root The problem: fpr a projekt we ve 4 elk-nodes sharing one share on this server to use the same files. This doesn t work. My guess is that the reason is that elk is

CentOS 7 rsyslog and ELK
I asked a similar question about a year ago and didn't get any answers. So I thought I'd try again. What do people do to get their syslog messages on CentOS 7 into a remote ELK stack. I've tried lots of things involving rsyslog, filebeat, redis, logstash and so on in lots of different configurations but nothing really works. I can get rsyslog to talk directly to logstash (acting as

question regarding to The tree Package for R
I have a problem with running the tree package (dec.8, 2001) for R. The problem is, it will only give me 5/6 terminal node and then stop, while using Splus's tree on the same data with the same specification give me hundreds of nodes. SOLVED: upssched: read confirmation failed
I had upssched call the looping script, and background the process (via '&'). This seems to have resolved the problem, and eliminate the delay I was experiencing -Rob ________________________________ From: nut-upsuser-bounces@lists.alioth.debian.org [mailto:nut-upsuser-bounces@lists.alioth.debian.org] On Behalf Of Dege, Robert C. upssched: read confirmation failed
When the UPS starts to run on Battery, upsmon notifies upssched, and upssched runs an "onbatt script", which sends out an alert every 15 seconds via wall. When the UPS is put back on line, upsmon acknowledges this change (via WALL). However, upssched does not get notified properly, so the onbatt script continues to send alerts. About 45 seconds later, upssched acknowledges the UPS

civil emergency comms: Asterisk + HAM
The disaster in the Gulf coast and the less than optimal initial response suggests to me that citizens must shoulder more responsibility for emergency management. Communications loss must have played a large role in the failures that occurred. I can't help but wonder if there are fewer ham radio operators today and that if there were more, maybe they could make a difference in future
