Announce: Test release with random collection support
I have just uploaded a test release of portable openssh to http://violet.ibs.com.au/openssh/files/test This release includes some major changes picked up from OpenBSD CVS. It also includes inbuilt random number gathering support which should remove the need for EGD on systems that lack /dev/random. This support is very preliminary. Please treat it as alpha and don't use it on production

Administrivia: mailing list updates
Hi, You may have noticed some small changes to the list over the last few days. These are a result of the mailing list server and software being upgraded. This has brought several changes: 1. Automatic detection of bouncing subscribers. The newer version of the list software encodes an individual return-path address to detect recipients whose mail is bouncing. If too many bounces are detected,

Administrivia: spam
Hi, I'm sure you have all noticed the recentincrease in spam making it through the list filters. I guess this is due to the spammers adopting techniques specifically intended to evade SpamAssassin. Over the next week, I will be adding add some extra anti-spam measures to the list. Hopefully this will stop this abuse. Until then, patience please. Thanks, Damien Miller

TEST RELEASE: 1.2.3pre5
Yeat another test release. This fixes a few problems that were reported in the last 24 hours. One security problem fixed by this release is the braindead linking behaviour of AIX's ld. In their infinite wisdom, IBM decided to make the -L linker flag specify /runtime/ link paths. This could allow someone to substitute a modified shared library to a suid program. For gory details, have a look

Help wanted: configure test for busted mmap
Linux 2.2 (and probably others) have a deficient mmap which has caused a number of problems (e.g. bug #285). A workaround is in development, but it would be helpful to have a configure test to detect the bad mmaps(). Any takers? -d

Another question about this shell magic...
Hi Martin, Martin Drescher wrote on Thu, Oct 01, 2020 at 02:06:22PM +0200: > Can someone tell how this magic works? No, and this question is off-topic on this list because it is not related to OpenSSH. It is a question about your shell, and about how the configuration of your shell works, and you don't even provide information about how you have configured your shell. Yours, Ingo
