[PATCH] permanently_set_uid fails on Cygwin :-(
Hi, I'm terribly sorry that I missed this before 3.7p1 was out. The permanently_set_uid() function fails on Cygwin since the test to revert to the saved uid unfortunately works on Cygwin though it shouldn't. The reason is that a Windows NT process always can revert to its previous privileges. There's no such concept of giving up rights in a process permanently. This is only

[PATCH] permanently_set_uid: Don't try restoring gid on Cygwin
Hi, the below patch solves the same problem for gids as has already been solved for uids. Windows has no concept of permanently changing the identity. It's always possible to revert to the original identity. Thanks, Corinna Index: uidswap.c =================================================================== RCS file: /cvs/openssh_cvs/uidswap.c,v retrieving revision 1.44 diff -p -u -r1.44

OpenSSH-3.9p1 permanently_set_uid behavior on Linux
Aloha, I'm curious about the following code at line 203 in uidswap.c: /* Try restoration of GID if changed (test clearing of saved gid) */ if (old_gid != pw->pw_gid && (setgid(old_gid) != -1 || setegid(old_gid) != -1)) fatal("%s: was able to restore old [e]gid", __func__); This causes permanently_set_uid to fail in the following case: $ su Password: ???????? #

Samba on A SGI Indy Cyclone IRIX system???
Hi there: We have recently inherited a circa 1996 SGI Indy Colorbus Cyclone running on Irix. Our intention is to use this unit to drive our Canon CLC900 Scanner Copier and make it accessible to our Windows Network. At the moment, our Windows Network does not "see" the Cyclone & vice versa. I have read that installing some kind of Windows Samba client onto our windows

Trusted IRIX Support
I'm working on integrating OpenSSH into Trusted IRIX. SGI has performed some manner of change and created their own binary distributions. Unfortunately, we have to wait until their quarterly release to get updated versions. To that end, I'd like to make the appropriate changes and feed them back into the main OpenSSH tree. I've started work and created a very quick-n-dirty hack to

Use the OpenSSH 3.6 uidswap.c for building 3.7 under IRIX
[resending with uidswap.c instead of uidwrap.c] Once I got past the missing inet_ntoa.h weirdness, I ran into an sshd that died a lot. It appears that IRIX doesn't like some of the extra checks added between 1.23 and 1.24 of uidswap.c. Not sure if that constitutes an IRIX bug or not, but helpfully this helps someone. -- Mail: mjo at dojo.mi.org WWW: http://dojo.mi.org/~mjo/ Phone: +1

problem in uidswap?
Hello, I've compiled openssh 3.7.1p2 on a DG/UX machine, using openssl 0.9.7c, zlib-1.1.4, and tcp_wrappers7.6. ssh itself seems to function ok, but sshd does not appear to be functioning properly for non-root users. After connecting and providing a password, the connection is closed, and we appear to get 3 messages in syslog like the following: fatal: permanently_set_uid: was able to

IRIX patches
The attached patch adds support for array sessions, project id's, and system audit trail id. Arrays are available at least on UNICOS in addition to IRIX. The project id & audit stuff is IRIX specific. Otherwise, the IRIX support in the current OpenSSHp looks good. (There were some utmp/wtmp oddities, but I think they've gone away in the latest release.) -- Mike Stone --------------

setres[gu]id implicit decl warning on Linux glibc
Hi, With recent snapshots, I noted a warning in compilation on Red Hat Linux 7.3 system with glibc 2.2.5: uidswap.c: In function `permanently_set_uid': uidswap.c:155: warning: implicit declaration of function `setresgid' uidswap.c:168: warning: implicit declaration of function `setresuid' The problem appears to be that these should be prototyped in unistd.h, but aren't. version to Irix 6.5
My name is Angelica Nunes and I work at TV Globo Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. I need some help about the SAMBA software. Our system is based on Silicon Graphics' machines, models: Indy, Impact, Onyx and Indigo using Operational System Irix 6.2, 6.3 or 6.4. We must upgrade all these systems to Irix 6.5 version. We would like to know which samba version is compatible with Irix 6.5? Where do I can

openssh on interix
Hi openssh developers, I'm trying to port openssh to Interix. See [1] for more on this. For Interix sshd needs to be patched to not use setuid()/setgid(), but an Interix specific function setuser(). See [2] why it is needed. Unfortunately, setuser() needs the clear-text password of the user to be fully functional (If you use password-less setuser(), then the user doesn't have network

Directory Renaming problem Samba 2.2 on IRIX
Hi: I have an old Indy that currently runs Samba 2.x on a Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory Network. It uses DOMAIN security, and the Domain Controllers for password service. Unfortunately, creating directories under Windows is problematic. When I create a directory under Windows, it cannot be renamed from Windows' default name "New Folder", "New Folder (2)" etc.

configure fixes for Tru64 UNIX V4.0x
1) Testing of uidswap.c on a Tru64 UNIX V4.0G PK4 (BL22) machine shows the following defines to be required for correct uid changing semantics: #define BROKEN_SETREGID 1 #define BROKEN_SETREUID 1 #define SETEUID_BREAKS_SETUID 1 Failure to fix these contributes to breaking privilege separation (in a safe way: connections will fail while UsePrivilegeSeparation=yes, thanks to

uidswap
All, Could someone explain the purpose of the uidswap functions with respect to ssh ( the client ). From what I gathered , ssh installs as setuid root and swaps ids when reading potential key files that may be read only by root. Also , I think when binding to a privileged port ssh swaps id. Is that so? What are the consequnences if you do not install ssh setuid root? ( As far I as know no uid

Testing of recent commits
There have been a few recent commits to portable OpenSSH that require testing. It would be appreciated if you could grab the 20031118 (or later) snapshot and give it a try on your platforms of choice. Ideally, "giving it a try" means running the regress tests, in addition to casual (non-production) use and reporting your experiences back to the list. The more platforms and compile-time
