yum remove <old kernel pkgs> -- wants to remove a ton of stuff
I've got a Centos 4 box at work, where I noticed a pile of old kernels lying around and no longer needed. I did "rpm -qa | grep -y kernel > list" then edited the list to remove from it the newer kernels, then "yum remove `cat list`". Yum has come up with a list of 71 packages it wants to remove, even though there were only 33 kernel-related RPMs in the list. this

KDE Upgrade from 3.3.1 to 3.4.2
I have downloaded the required KDE files (version 3.4.2)(I know what all files are required), and tried to simply upgrade using the rpm -Uvh command. But i began getting dependency problems. Now, what I did was searched google like a mad buffalo :P to find that missing files, and was successful to a great extent. But the weird thing was I got a few conflicts, which I can't around with. GNU Telephony Centos repository
The Gnu Telephony site: http://wiki.gnutelephony.org Has a Centos repo: http://dist.gnutelephony.org/RPMS/ But I caught some text stating that this is for Centos 4.2. Is it really? Is there a difference; i.e. would it be safe to install these on Centos 4.4? Really I am after Twinkle, and it seems there is a lot you need to actually get Twinkle installed...

Can up2date use a local yum mirror?
If so, how do you configure the up2date client that comes with CentOS to look at the local yum mirror? Conversely, how do you disable the CentOS Network Alert Notification Tool so that users won't see the "throbbing red circle" and be tempted to launch the up2date client? Thanks, Alfred

Asterisk on Rackspace, My SIP phone behind NAT
Hi, I've successfully setup Asterisk on my local PC and can make call using Twinkle to the server. But, I cannot call to my Asterisk server at Rackspace. I have been trying several things to figure it out, no luck. My PC is behind NAT, so I've set that up in sip.conf (nat=yes). I can ping my Rackspace server so it seems to be Public-static IP. Anyway, I tried with setting externip,

redhat vorbis install
I hope I'm not being an idiot, but I'm attempting to install vorbis-1.0 RPMs on a few redhat machines and failing horribly. I'm in dependency hell. For starters, libao-0.8.3-1 requires libasound.so.2 (an alsa library?) which does not seem to be available in any recent redhat releases. Then vorbis-tools wants libcurl.so.2, which makes redhat 7.2 machines choke. Worst of all is

Soft phones.
Hey, all. I'm looking -- if possible -- for a decent, multi-platform soft-phone. Specifically, Linux and Windows; that way, I'll go through the same issues my end users do. I've noticed a couple (e.g., minisip, which seems abandoned, and sip-communicator, which, honestly, is probably a great IM client, but has a confusing interface for actual phone calls). So I'm wondering if
