OpenSSH 2.1.1p2: /etc/nologin handling and related stuff
Attached is a patch to be applied with GNU patch -p0, notice that configure needs to be regenerated. The patch addresses the following annoyances: * On AIX there is a signal called SIGDANGER which is sent to all processes when the machine runs low on virtual memory. This patch makes sure that this signal is ignored, because the default on older AIX releases is to kill the running process

AIX lastlog change?
Somewhere between 2.9p1 and 2.9.9p2 there was a change to auth2.c that removed the userauth_reply() function. There were a few lines of code in that function, #ifdef'd with WITH_AIXAUTHENTICATE, that handled the AIX method of lastlog type stuff (specifically, a loginsuccess() call). There is a similar call in auth1.c, down in do_authentication(), which is still there in 2.9.9p2. So with

Functionality bug (possibly) in openssh on AIX 4.3 (fwd)
Has anyone else running AIX tried this patch? I'm looking for feedback if it should be applied before we release 2.9p1. - Ben ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 17:22:02 -0800 (AKDT) From: mikem at alaska.net To: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org Subject: Functionality bug (possibly) in openssh on AIX 4.3 Hi Folks, While compiling and testing openssh-2.5.2p2 on

openssh-3.6.1p2-passexpire20.patch prevents /etc/nologin disp lay on AIX
Courtesy follow up back to the unix-dev list (mainly for those like me who searched the archives) Thanks to the very swift response of Darren, a patched auth.c did the trick Patch enclosed below (apply after the p20) I'm guessing he'll either update p20 or issue p21 soon. Many thanks Andrew --- auth.c.orig 2003-06-25 23:14:16.000000000 +1000 +++ auth.c 2003-06-25

auth*.c
Folks, During testing, we found a couple of issues with openssh3.0.2p1: 1. In userauth_finish() in auth2.c (as well as in do_authloop in auth1.c), the foll. check: if (authctxt->failures++ > AUTH_FAIL_MAX) is never satisfied and thus packet_disconnect() never gets called. I suspect the code just drops out of the dispatch_run function list instead. This should be an == instead of >.

Request: Increasing MAX_NUM_DLLS in Rdynload.c
Thanks Henrik this is very helpful! I will try this out on our tests and see if gcDLLs() has a positive effect. mlr currently has tests broken down by learner type such as classification, regression, forecasting, clustering, etc.. There are 83 classifiers alone so even when loading and unloading across learner types we can still hit the MAX_NUM_DLLS error, meaning we'll have to break them

Re: Creating users "on - the - fly"
This is a good suggestion - and maybe I'm not totally clear on the restrictions... So - in these situations gitolite will actually append things to your authorized_keys file. Which can get very long. And after a while - it gets *very* long. I think I saw comments that it should be limited to about 20k or so. And around 20k the look up times are in the seconds. So that wouldn't be enough

Request: Increasing MAX_NUM_DLLS in Rdynload.c
This is a request to increase MAX_NUM_DLLS in Rdynload.c in from 100 to 500. On line 131 of Rdynload.c, changing #define MAX_NUM_DLLS 100 to #define MAX_NUM_DLLS 500 In development of the mlr package, there have been several episodes in the past where we have had to break up unit tests because of the "maximum number of DLLs reached" error. This error has been an inconvenience that

/etc/nologin must be world-readable which is not totally clear
hi, the man page for sshd(1) says about /etc/nologin: "The file should be world-readable". However, nologin has no effect if it's not readable by the connecting user: if (pw->pw_uid) f = fopen(_PATH_NOLOGIN, "r"); if (f) { /* /etc/nologin exists. Print its contents and exit. */ ... ... return(254) if root has a

Where to implement user limit settings ?
Hello, I'm trying to implement setting of user limits (ulimit) in sshd. I'm not using PAM so I need it in the sshd itself. The task is very simple - just to put one line calling setup_limits(pw); and link with -lshadow. But the problem is, where to put this line. I did it in session.c, in do_child(), like this: #ifdef HAVE_OSF_SIA session_setup_sia(pw, s->ttyfd == -1 ? NULL
