Blocking spamblocked.earthlink.net
For those who don't know, Greg Houlette sent in a request from an
address that doesn't conveniently accept replies.
If people can't be bothered to read our replies, we shouldn't be
bothered by their requests.
Just a note. Maybe a request for a killfile.

Hi,
Is it possible to transparent proxy FTP through Squid? If so what rules would i need to add to the rules file so that any ftp request is forwarding through Squid? I have www traffic being Tranparantly proxied.
Herwith my www rules:
REDIRECT loc 3128 tcp 80
ACCEPT loc fw::3128 tcp www - all
ACCEPT fw

Transparent IMAP proxy
Hi,
I'm considering patching Dovecot to work as a transparent (and virus
scanning) IMAP proxy.
What is the appropriate feature to extend? (I've considered the
following: IMAPC and reverse proxying, with IMAPC looking more promising
since it actually parses IMAP communication).
Can anyone who is familiar with the IMAPC code recommend what are the
most appropriate locations in the

Transparent socks proxy
Hello,
I'm running Wine 0.9.10 on a Fedora Core 5 at work.
I'd like to use the Socks5 proxy we've got with application run under Wine.
The application I'm using in Wine works fine using direct connection to the
internet but this application has no settings I can change to inform it of
the socks proxy.
So I'm using Sockscap32 2.38 from www.permeo.com . It works fine under

Transparent Proxy Problem with Squid3 and Shorewall
Hi all,
I have a strange problem in trying to install a transparent proxy (in my
internal net not on the shorewall server) according to the instructions
as outlined in http://www.shorewall.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html#Local
My Network looks the following:
Internal Net: 10.0.0.0/24 Squid Server listening on port 3128
(ip 10.0.0.152, DNS name server01)

Links go to ''localhost''
I am using Apache2.2 + Mongrel on my machine.
Now I am accessing it over LAN. When I enter http://mymachinename/myapp
it opens fine but when I click on any link in my rails app, it replaces
mymachinename with localhost (http://localhost/myapp/controller/action)
and thus I am unable to access it from remote location.

Transparent Squid in DMZ
Hi,
I want forward port 21 and 443 to my squid. A simply rule (dnat) didnt
help me.
My http - port (only 80) will forwarded to my squid. It runs
fine. Here I have used the HowTo from Tom and the hints from
http://lartc.org/.
I want to do the same with port 21 as port 80.
My network:
Shorewall:
eth0 net (192.168.108.1)
eth1 dmz (192.168.109.1)
eth2 loc (192.168.110.1)
eth3 loc1

Is there socksify script for dynamics forwardings to unix domain sockets?
Hi!
I noticed that `ssh -D /tmp/socket $myhost` will actually provide a socks
server listing on the unix domain socket /tmp/socket (this does not appear to
be documented, though it is semi-documented for -L and -R).
Do you know of any "socksification" script to go along with it, in the spirit
of tsocks of socksify (from dante)? Those do not seem to support socks
servers running on

What does the socks function of openssh hide?
Salutations,
I was recently using openssh 6.8p1-3 for socks tunelling with a public wifi
hotspot. I attempted to watch youtube but was notified that it was not allowed
in my area. The socks server I was connected to definitely had the ability to
connect to youtube, so I concluded the issue was with the public wifi hotspot.
How much does socks tunneling with openssh obscure?

Transparent http proxy
Hi all,
I''m trying to set up a transparent proxy with dansguardian, and running
into some strange issues with the squid setup without dansguardian. I have
used shorewall for quite some time, and I''m stumped as to why I can''t get
this to work. Here is a brief synopsis of my network.

I have the following policies:

transparent proxy
I'm excited to see that dovecot 1.0-test series supports
transparent proxy, but that excitement is muted by:
- the recommendation to avoid 1.0 at present;
- the requirement to use SQL authentication.
I guess I could ignore the first, but the second is sticky. How
hard would it be to hack a different sort of proxy server cue
into the authentication? Perhaps one of:
