happy new years ssh key problem :)
Hi List, Happy New Years and I was hoping to get some help on an ssh issue that I am having. For some reason I am unable to scp to hosts on this network using RSA keys. Here is what I am doing/what is going on; scp the public key to remote host [amandabackup at VIRTCENT18 ~]$ scp ~/.ssh/id_rsa_amdump.pub amandabackup at lb1:~ amandabackup at lb1's password: id_rsa_amdump.pub

Problems using sftp on HMC IBM system
Hello friends, I am having some problems using sftp to reach a HMC IBM system. The connection is suddenly closed and I don't why. Actually I don't know exactly how to read all these debug information. I would be very glad with any help on this topic. Here is the full debug output provided from the command execution: otubo at phoenix ~ $ sftp -vvv hscroot at skiper Connecting to

possible bug: OpenSSH appears to freeze on exit
Hello, I believe I may have discovered what appears to be a small anomoly in the way OpenSSH closes connections and thought if I gave you some feedback I might be able to make a very small contributution to the development of openssh. This might be a Solaris 2.6 anomoly or an openssh anomoly or a combination of both. I came across this apparent anomoly because we use openssh (via cron) here to

ssh trouble checklist
Hi. There should be a checklist of everything that can go wrong with making an ssh connection. Here's one entry for the list, which I didn't know before, and * I couldn't see the problem from the -ddd and -vvv output, and * there were no /var/log/* file entries to give hints. Here's what I did sudo kill <pid-of-sshd> /usr/sbin/sshd No good. Usually I did kill

Failure to Launch (was override -q option)
Attached is the very verbose ssh output. Just to be perverse, this time two nodes lost connectivity. The only thing I see is lines saying that the two connections are lost, although being honest I have no idea what everything else means. For reference, 8 ssh cinnections were being made at the same time for a 8x8mpi task. N.B., since the OS I am using does not have rsh, I am currently using the

^C doesnt work on ssh session
Thanks Darren, will check on your response. I am attaching sshd, ssh logs with debug flags. Please see if it gives any hint: when I press ^C in ssh session, no log gets printed in both server/client side. Solaris 8 x86 rsa pubkey auth problem
Hello, I got some weird problem with public key authentication using rsa key pair. Let me first of all explain my setup. 1) I got two Solaris 8 x86 boxes uname -a SunOS 5.8 Generic_117351-24 i86pc i386 i86pc <kdc: 192.168.10.11> <---> <module: 192.168.10.10> 2) They're running absolutely identical openssh installations I'm using pkgsrc, so I've builded all

Bad packet length problem with "aes128-cbc" and openssh3.1p1
Hi, I am trying to run openssh 3.1p1. But it is giving "Bad packet length" error when I run sshd with default config file. On further investigation I found that the error is coming only for the cipher algorithm "aes128-cbc". Also the error comes only when I don't specify any protocol file (/usr/local/etc/ssh_host_[rd]sa_key) or specify only "protocol 2" files. I

SecurID authentication for 3.6.1p2 with privsep
Hello all, I have made SecurID authentication for OpenSSH 3.6.1p2. This patch was totaly rewritten, so please test it before use. Kbd-int authentication is now integrated into challenge response auth. Privsep is now fully suported. PS: What do you think of selective access to the individual authentications, similar to AllowGroups/DenyGroups or maybe AllowUsers/DenyUsers ? Vaclav Tomec

OpenSSH_4.7p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8g Host Key Verification Failed
Greetings, I am trying to cross compile OpenSSH 4.7 for ppc with QNX Neutrino as my OS. I have a workstation with QNX on it (x86) and I have linked the utils used by autoconf to their ppc versions. I have been able to successfully build sshd/ssh. I copy the binaries built on the x86 to the ppc, and sshd works great. I can ssh from any machine to it, but when I try to ssh from the ppc machine to

Diffie Hellman key exchange algorithms
A few questions regarding the OpenSSH support for the Diffie Hellman key exchange algorithms: (1) Are the diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha256", "diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha1" , "diffie-hellman-group14-sha1" "diffie-hellman-group1-sha1" (as defined in RFCs 4253 and RFC 4419) the complete list of key exchange algorithms supported by OpenSSH? (2) Is there a

OpenVMS SSH password expiry woes continue
I sent in a patch a week or so ago for a problem a customer of mine was seeing when trying to connect to their OpenVMS system with an 3.8.1p2 OpenSSH client (running on a linux box or in cygwin) and trying to login to an account who had an expired password. The problem continues although now it has nothing to do with what my patch handled as they have since upgraded their SSH software on the VMS

Weak DH primes and openssh
> Can this be addressed in ssh_config/sshd_config with the KexAlgorithms setting? weakdh.org/sysadmin.html recommends adding: KexAlgorithms curve25519-sha256 at libssh.org But this thread makes it sound as if it's not necessary. Weak DH primes and openssh
Hi, You will be aware of https://weakdh.org/ by now, I presume; the take-home seems to be that 1024-bit DH primes might well be too weak. I'm wondering what (if anything!) you propose to do about this issue, and what Debian might do for our users? openssh already prefers ECDH, which must reduce the impact somewhat, although the main Windows client (PuTTY) doesn't support ECDH yet. But

Can we disable diffie-hellman-group14-sha1 by default?
I'm not sure if collision resistance is required for DH key derivation, but generally, SHA-1 is on its way out. If it's possible (if there's not a very large percentage of servers that do not support anything newer), it should be disabled.

Can we disable diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha1 by default?
I ask because the removal of diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha1 happened accidently in 7.8 due to a mistake in a change to readconf.c. I noticed this and filed a bug about it along with a patch to fix readconf.c to use KEX_CLIENT_* like it used to: https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable/commit/1b9dd4aa https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2967 Its clear the removal was unintentional
