Pending OpenSSH release, call for testing.
Hi All. OpenSSH is getting ready for a release soon, so we are asking for all interested parties to test a snapshot. Changes include: * sshd will now re-exec itself for each new connection (the "-e" option is required when running sshd in debug mode). * PAM password authentication has been (re)added. * Interface improvements to sftp(1) * Many bug fixes and improvements, for

[PATCH]: Cygwin: Allow sshd to switch user context without password
Hi, the following patch checks if OpenSSH is running under a Cygwin version >= 1.3.2 which allows switching user context without password. Otherwise sshd allows changing the user context only if password authentication is used as it was before. [PATCH 2/2] Cygwin: only tweak sshd_config file if it's new, drop creating sshd user
The sshd_config tweaks were executed even if the old file was still in place. Fix that. Also disable sshd user creation. Need help with GSSAPI authentication
Client: Windows XP pro, in an AD 2003 domain, running SecureCRT 4.1.11. I've also got MIT Kerberos for Windows installed on the client, and Leash shows that my tickets ARE forwardable. Server: Solaris 8 Sparc server, with MIT Kerberos (krb5-1.4.1), and OpenSSH 4.0p1. I've created two AD accounts, and extracted keys mapped to "host/hostname.domainname.com at REALM.COM" and

Is support being removed for ordinary users to run sshd?
Hello Darren, Could you comment on this issue being raised by myself and Corinna Vinschen? This will create big problems for me. I'm not clear if this is a conscious decision supported by solid reasons or if it is just collateral damage. Thank you for all you work! openssh password expiration problem
openssh password expiration problemPatrick, Indeed password aging does not work with OpenSSH 3.0.1p1 on Solaris 2.6. >From what I can tell something is different with Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 2.8. I know that password expiration doesn't cause a problem on Solaris8. I'm unclear as to whether the problem is with OpenSSH code or Solaris. All I know is that the latest PAM patches are not

sshd can't change expired password on Sol8 with Openssh3.0p1 + PAM
The reason I ask about the patches is because I think the problem you're seeing might actually be a bug in pam_unix.so.1 - it's something to try at least. We don't use password aging and we don't use the "passwd" command to change passwords, so we haven't run into this at our site even though we probably don't have pam_unix.so patched up. Also, the passwd

[PATCH] permanently_set_uid: Don't try restoring gid on Cygwin
Hi, the below patch solves the same problem for gids as has already been solved for uids. Windows has no concept of permanently changing the identity. It's always possible to revert to the original identity. [PATCH]: Allow SSHD to install as service under WIndows 9x/Me
Hi, the following patch is a (hopefully least intrusive) extension when sshd is started so that it daemonizes itself. In that case Windows 9x/Me has a slight problem with sshd as soon as the current user logs off. The sshd daemon will be killed as well. Since installing services is very different between NT and 9x, the way used for NT boxes isn't working well for 9x. For that reason

Requirement for sshd account since 4.4p1
Hi, there's a change made to 4.4p1, which gave some irritation on the Cygwin mailing list. It's a change from 20060907: - (djm) [sshd.c auth.c] Set up fakepw() with privsep uid/gid, so it can be used to drop privilege to; fixes Solaris GSSAPI crash reported by Magnus Abrante; suggestion and feedback dtucker@ NB. this change will require that the privilege separation user must

Kerberos password auth/expiry kbdint patch
I took Markus Friedl's advice and set up a KbdintDevice for Kerberos password authentication/expiry. It took me a bit to wrap my head around privsep, but I think it's working properly (code stolen shamelessly from FBSD's PAM implementation :->). The hardest part was working out how to get the interaction between krb5_get_init_creds_password() (along with the prompter) to work

[patch/Cygwin]: Simplify host key generation in ssh-host-config script
Hi, as the subject says, the below patch just simplifies the host key generation in the Cygwin-specific ssh-host-config script. Rather than testing and generating each key, call ssh-keygen -A. 2.9p2 behaves different from 2.5.2p2 on tunneling issue
Hi, I have a problem with a Linux box which I updated from 2.5.2p2 to 2.9p2 recently. It's running a tunnel started via inittab using a script which starts ssh -2 -N -o 'ConnectionAttempts 3600' -L <tunnel> $host This has run reliable with 2.5.2 over the last months. Now, after I have upgraded to 2.9p2, the tunnel is closed right after each attempt of an application to use
