ssh_rsa_verify: RSA_verify failed: error:
Host based authentication does not seem to be working for us after
upgrading to openssh-3.4p1 (we were at openssh-3.1p1) (openssl is at
0.96d). Any time we try to connect from another unix box also running
openssh-3.4p1, we get the following error (on the server side) and host
based auth fails (it falls back to password prompt).

Building openssh-3.5p1 with new DES functions
Hi,
I've seen that openssh will have different function names for des, I
think thats great. As kerberos4 nor kerbero5 from KTH in Sweden support
those new calls yet, I thought it would be best for me to switch back to
the old behaviour, i.e. have kerberized libkrb and other libs with
disabled support for openssl (which means libdes is compiled).
Then, compile openssh-3.5p1 with kerberos4

AIX 4.3.3/OpenSSH 3.5p1 compile problem
My apologies if this is not the appropriate forum for this but I have
posted twice to the ssh security list and have not received any
replies. I would appreciated any help that anyone can offer. TIA

Ok, this is a repost from awhile back to which I received no replies.
Originally, I was dealing with 3.4p1 but I am running into the same
problem now with 3.5p1. I would greatly

------- Additional Comments From Lutz.Jaenicke at aet.TU-Cottbus.DE 2002-07-19 17:37 -------
OpenSSH's "configure" command will only pick up a new installation of PRNGD,
when it is running during the call to configure. Thus make sure to
* install prngd first and check its proper operation.
* then run OpenSSH's configure

Building openssh-3.5p1 with new DES functions
Hi,
I've installed openssl-0.9.7 and now am testing current openssh-cvs.
The kerberosIV installation has it's own libdes.a. I'm quite please
openssh built successfully, congratulations! Unfortunately, kerberos
autentication is not tried at all. As far as I remeber, Ja Iven who wrote
some patch, which as he said got into 3.5p1 also removed the ifdef's that

2.5.1p1 Could not load host key
OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 was compiled on two different Linux machines, both with
glibc 2.2, libz-1.1.3 and openssl-0.9.6. Both had been running 2.3.0p1
successfully. On both, the new sshd failed:

debug1: load_private_key_autodetect: type 0 RSA1
Disabling protocol version 2. Could not load host key

Compiling openssh-3.9p1 Without Kerberos
I'm trying to compile openssh-3.9p1 for an embedded Linux distro without
kerberos support. I pass the flag --without-kerberos5 to configure and
the script output indicates that I've chosen to not link against the
kerberos libs:
OpenSSH has been configured with the following options:
User binaries: /usr/local/bin
System binaries: /usr/local/sbin

Please help: Compiling/configuring OpenSSH on SunOS 5.5.1 with AFS
Hello *,
i have some problems to compile/configure OpenSSH on SunOS 5.5.1
with AFS. See the attachment for the compile environment.
The programs compile fine and token passing is without problems.
Unfortunately it is not possible to login without a valid token
(`Permission denied.').
There is following message in the syslog:

openssh 2.9p1 on Solaris 2.6 with AFS
hello,
I'm attempting to compile 2.9p1 on Solaris 2.6 with AFS support.
I am not using Kerberos aside from AFS. The installation notes state
that Kerberos IV is required by AFS. Since the Kerberos libraries and
header files do not appear to be distributed with AFS, I downloaded and
installed ftp://ftp.pdc.kth.se/pub/krb/src/krb4-1.0.8.tar.gz
./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh

PasswordAuthentication no
PermitEmptyPasswords yes
and try to connect to a password less account ( I know its a F*up, but
that's the application ID10Ts .... ) I can get in using the SSH2 version
without a valid key, the

sftp ls problem upgrading from 2.9.9p2 to 3.0.2p1 on Linux
I am running two Red Hat 6.2 servers with the 2.2.16 kernel. I am
running OpenSSH_2.9.9p2 (SSH proto 2) and OpenSSL 0.9.5a 1 on both with
no problems. I am having problems upgrading to OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 on both
systems. After doing a gnu make installation, ssh works fine, but sftp
displays fourteen digit numbers instead of file names when you do an ls
listing of directory contents. File transfers
