[PATCH] Update diag/mbr instruction to match the current filename.
From: Jean-Christian de Rivaz <jc at eclis.ch>
I suspect that some instructions about how to use the diag/mbr was not
updated when the source file was renamed to handoff.S. Here is a simple
proposition to fix that.

Unable to access shares by server alias
Hai,
Verify dig -x $(hostname -i)
Then dig A $(hostname -f)
As long as these match any CNAME should work.

Internal DNS CNAME not working
Samba 4.0.0
I am running all of these commands from the PDC DC1.
/etc/resolv.conf
domain mydomain.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
smb.conf does have a
dns forwarder = 192.168.1.2
samba-001 the actual host name, and also a PDC, in the same domain.
I would like to have the alias my-server point to samba-001.
I added a CNAME record:
bin/samba-tool dns add 127.0.0.1 mydomain.com my-server CNAME

Samba4 DNS - Adding CNAME
Hi All,
I'm using samba 4.0.0alpha21-GIT-UNKNOWN provisioned to use the internal
dns server. I'm having a bit of trouble adding a CNAME entry, or more
correctly, getting it to resolve after adding.
Prior to adding the CNAME a query returns (the relevant record);
Name=centos, Records=1, Children=0
A: 192.168.1.11 (flags=f0, serial=2, ttl=900)
It's more than likely me doing

Samba4 Internal DNS - CNAME not working
Hello,
It seems Samba4 is having problems with CNAME records. I am seeing the same
behavior as mentioned in the thread below. Is there any ETA on a fix for
this? This is identical to the problem with MX records. This is currently a
much bigger problem than the MX records. I appreciate any assistance.

Thanks for the suggestion Rowland, I had already tried that though and both
secondary DC's resolve....

Why insisting?
Anyway appended is a dumper version. I could put up a binery version
if needed. Let me know if so.

samba_dnsupdate
Guys, what i noticed.
Look at this.
Refused- 1/3/0 (Class 254) ( /24 )
Paully used /16
update 1/3/1 (Class 254) CNAME V-RDS02.mydomain.com
CNAME ?
And, if he uses in his example
samba-tool dns add dc3 mydomain.com V-RDS02 A 130.130.0.252
A record was used.
Is resolv.conf checked and it is sure in pointing to the correct DNS of the AD first?

Setup a Samba AD DC as an additional DC
Apologies for not replying to the thread, I just subscribed to the list,
after a day of troubleshooting this.
Regarding:

I am experiencing the same symptoms, in a simpler environment than the
original submitter at the previous thread:

DNS CNAME question
Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question (and if so, please
point me to a better listserv), but is there anything "wrong" RFC or best
practice wise with pointing a CNAME record to a DNS server?
(I'm using EveryDNS.net, and I'd like to make my CNAME records ns1->
4.myDomain.com correspond to ns1->ns4.EveryDNS.net.)

More on bind_dlz - documentation I have not found
In the shower this morning, I realized that samba's dlz is through its
ldap interface, probably through dhcp. :)
All of that work researching how to set up a dlz database for naught.
This is NOT documented in either:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS
or
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_BIND_as_backend_for_Samba_AD
I have not yet checked any ldap documentation on the wiki to

NS records for a new AD DC
I have just joined a second DC to my Samba based AD, with Bind9_DLZ
providing the DNS on DC2 (samba internal on DC1). I notice that the AD
zone has not acquired an NS entry pointing to DC2. I presume that
ideally such an entry should exist?
I have tried to add something, but I cannot work out how to use
samba-tool to add an RR for the root of a zone. If I miss the name

Make puppet clients look at a domain name rather than an IP?
In the docs it says one must add a line to the /etc/hosts file with
the name "puppet" and the IP of the puppet master. This isn''t a
possibility for us as the IP is subject to change. Is it possible to
configure the puppet clients to look for a specific domain to find the
master? eg. "puppetmaster.mydomain.com"? If so, how/where can this be
configured?
