error compiling portable openssh 3.6.1p1 on SGI IRIX 6.5x
Hi,
First checking out http://www.openbsd.org/errata.html
Following is output and error from trying to compile the latest openssh
on SGI IRIX (using cc). Previous versions of openssh have compiled
cleanly on this system using the following configure options.
Is there a quick fix for this?
Cheers,
Lachlan.

Irix joblimits failure (was: Re: New snapshot)
IRIX has a compatibility mechanism that lets you test for optional symbols (like jlimit_start) at run-time. I think these patches will let all all IRIX 6.5 systems build images that will test for job limit support dynamically:

IRIX 6.5 patch for Compression with UsePrivilegeSeparation
Simon Cooper already mailed in a patch to get the effects of MAP_ANON on
IRIX systems, but it was against openssh/3.3p1. I've reapplied his
patach to openssh/3.4p1 and include it as an attachment.
Here's his explanation:

Optional symbols on IRIX
A couple days ago I mailed in a patch to use _MIPS_SYMBOL_PRESENT to
test at run-time whether jlimit_startjob() was present IRIX systems. I
neglected to mention that the patch I sent in wasn't entirely complete:
a _real_ fix would test '#include <optional_sym.h>' in configure, and
also require either the MipsPRO 7.2.x or MipsPRO 7.3.1.3 or newer
compiler.

configure.in fixes for 2.9.9p2
configure.in patches for 2.9.9p2:
1. Allow --with-pcre to take a path specifying the root of the
PCRE install (ROOT/include, ROOT/lib)
2. Ditto for --with-zlib
3. $no_libnsl and $no_libsocket can be determined programmatically
4. Check for innetgr, getspnam, and util in the default $LIBS before
checking in -lrpc, -lgen, and -lutil, respectively

configure bug with IRIX 6.5 (Makedep) (PR#288)

OS: SGI/IRIX 6.5
Submission from: (NULL) (144.32.72.76)
using default configure under SGI/IRIX 6.5.
(I switched to gnumake, after initial problems, this might not be necesssary).
the make rule for creating dependencies is wrong for the SGI C compiler.
The rule assumes that cc -M file.c -o file.d works (it doesn't).
One needs to explicitly capture stdout

Mounting SMB shares on SGI IRIX
Hello,
We have been successfully using Samba to access Unix filesystems on Windows
computers. So far we only had SGI IRIX computers and very few Windows
computers.
Recently we have started adding Windows clients to the network and now we
wish to do the reverse i.e. access Windows shared areas from SGI computers,
mainly for backup purposes.
We are using Networker to take automated backups.

sshd crashing on IRIX (3.6.1p1)
Occasionally, we're noticing that sshd is core dumping on our IRIX
6.5.18f machine.
The only time we've really noticed it is when users are logging in with
putty from offsite (although I'm not really sure it's a client issue).
The user manages to log in, sshd apparently core dumps, but the user is
not logged out, the privilege separated user is still running their own

Re: missing directory entries on irix
Thanks for the patch, unfortunately when I installed it I had a lot more
files missing from the directory listing and I have not taken much time to
look at why. But it certainly is the cast that off_t on the IRIX box is 8 bytes
in the current OS, however the compilers seem to convert the long values
properly so long as overflow does not occur.
Thanks to your suggestion on looking at the
