Fedora FC1 RPMs
I've spent the morning looking at making some RPMs for Fedora Core 1
and run into a problem with GSSAPI. Basically the default install of
Fedora doesn't come with the necessary gssapi code to build the RPMs by
default (i.e. you need to say %define kerberos5 0 in openssh.spec).
Since Fedora is going to fork off from RedHat I was going to create a
set of patches to make a

getting OpenSSH/OpenSSL to utilize /dev/random
I've installed Sun's SUNWski package on Solaris 8 (32-bit) that provides a
/dev/random interface. It appears to as cat'ing it gives me a bunch of
well, random data.
However, when I ran my configure, it gives me the WARNING.RND message to the
effect that I'm using the built-in. I've seen allusions on this list to
building openssl with to get random support, so I rebuilt it

OpenSSH and Redhat 8
John,
The following steps should work for you (or anyone buildling on a
RedHat box):
1) Get the official OpenSSH source RPM from
ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/OpenSSH/portable/rpm/SRPMS/openssh-3.7.1p2-1.src.rpm
2) Do 'rpmbuild --rebuild ./openssh-3.7.1p2-1.src.rpm' from where you
saved the file.
3) This should create the following files in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386:

Fwd: sftp buggy put command
Hi!
I was tying out the put command with version 6.7_p1 of OpenSSH.
If I use recursive copying, sftp expects the last directory in the
<source> exists in the destination (on the server), otherwise ?Couldn't
canonicalize: No such file or directory?.
I would've taken this to be the expected behavior, but get command does
not have this problem. It makes the destination directory in

Bad packet length error
Hi,
I am running sshd (openssh-2.9p2) on a power-pc LynxOS box, and am
connecting from a ssh client (openssh-2.9p2) on an x86 Linux box.
This works fine for ssh protocol version 1, but am getting the below error
for ssh v2:
Disconnecting: Bad packet length -857542839.
I am also attaching the complete debug traces from sshd & ssh below.
I am not sure if this is an "endian" issue.

Undocumented sftp put -r quirk: Couldn't canonicalize: No such file or directory
Hi,
As of OpenSSH 6.5 on Ubuntu 14.04 (package version 1:6.5p1-6), there
appears to be an undocumented requirement for the sftp "put -r"
command. In order to "put -r foo", a remote directory named "foo"
must already exist.
If a remote directory named foo does not exist, the following
(confusing) error message is displayed:
sftp> put -r foo
Uploading foo/ to

SSH 3.2.2 on Solaris 8 with /kernel/drv/random
Hi,
I'm like to try a get the new release to work with Sun's new device,
that can be installed with patch 112438-01.
I compiled SSL attempting to point it at the random device:
cd openssl-0.9.6d
./Configure solaris-sparcv7-gcc
make DEVRANDOM="/kernel/drv/random"
And then ran the SSH configure:
./configure --prefix=/opt/OBSDssh --with-pam --without-rsh \
--sysconfdir=/etc/ssh

ssh-agent asking for passphrase on non-keyed connections
I'm running into some odd behavior that I can't figure out that I'm
hoping someone can help me with. After years of SSH usage, I've
decided to exchange one laziness for another and use ssh-agent.
However I'm running into an odd instance where ssh is asking for the
passphrase to my key stored in ~/.ssh/id_dsa when attempting to connect
to a machine with nothing in
