Hostbased Authentication Question
Hi,
I am still working on getting hostbased authentication working in
OpenSSH 3.5p1. I emailed the user list, and got no response. It seems so
simple, yet I have continued to have problems getting it working properly.
I've read posts about it on this list, and the openssh-unix-dev list, and
nothing I have tried seems to work. My question is this, does it matter
which key, either

OpenSSH_3.6.1p2 (Gentoo Linux build) hangs on SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi there,
One of our customer is experiencing a strange hang on their ssh server which
I updated last night for him and rebuilt from the Gentoo port (this happened
before and after the update). I can trigger it from a fresh boot by logging
once or twice as root with an RSA key, then trying to log in as a regular
user, getting the password wrong, and

X11 forwarding problem -- openssh-3.5p1 -- redhat 8.0 -- linux 2.4.18
All,
I'm working on upgrading a machine from RH 6.2 to RH 8.0. I've
encountered one major (for me) snag in that I cannot get X11 forwarding to
work anymore.
I've been google-ing the error messages all morning, with no luck.
Here is debugging output from the server (client debugging output sent
upon request... I don't feel it is relevant). What I feel is interesting

hostbased authentication problem in 3.4
I am seeing the same issues as another recent post, hostbased
authentication in 3.4p1 not seeming to work. I tried the ssh-keysign.c
patch posted, didn't seem to fix the problem.
Details:
Solaris 7, OpenSSH 3.4p1, OpenSSL 0.9.6d
Key from client ssh_host_rsa_key.pub copied to server /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts2
with comma-separated client hostnames added to front and a blank space before

openssh-3.0p1, auth2.c
openssh-3.0p1 still contains the bug which I already reported on Sept. 28 2001
for 2.9p2, namely, the trailing dot in chost should be stripped before calling
auth_rhosts2() even with option "HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly yes".
Otherwise, the host names in /etc/hosts.equiv and .rhosts would have to be
dot-terminated. Fix: Move lines 776-779 of auth2.c upwards to after line 767.

2.9p2 -- ForwardX11 fails -- X11 connection uses different authentication protocol
Hi,
I just grabed the 2.9p2 and can't forward X11 connections. This worked
fine for me under 2.9p1 but with 2.9p2 it seems that $XAUTHORITY isn't
getting set and when I try and set it manually connections to the
Xserver still fail with:
debug1: X11 connection uses different authentication protocol.
debug1: X11 rejected 1 i1/o16

Even with option "HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly yes", the trailing
dot in chost should be stripped before auth_rhosts2() is called from
hostbased_key_allowed().

[PATCH] Strip trailing . when using HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly
The following simple patch (against openssh-3.1) moves the test for a
trailing dot in the client-supplied hostname so that it is also stripped
when using the server option HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly.
Please CC me on any replies, as I'm not subscribed to the list.
Cheers,
Bill Rugolsky
