SOCKS server other than ss5?
Anyone here using a SOCKS server? I'm using ss5 but there seems to be a
strange disconnect issue with it and openvpn. While I'm trying to figure
out whether ss5 is at fault, or openvpn, I'd like to try a different
SOCKS server. Could you recommend one that works well on CentOS?
Thanks.

Feature request
Hepp!
I am sitting in a remote country trying to reboot my server at home.
Services are running, but the filesystem seems to be unreachable.
I can ssh into the system, but when entering interactive mode,
nothing happens and the session is terminated. Then I thought -
what if sshd had builtins like bash, so that i could send a "reboot"
command to the ssh daemon instead "ssh system

Strange performance loss
I''m moving some data off an old machine to something reasonably new.
Normally, the new machine performs better, but I have one case just now
where the new system is terribly slow.
Old machine - V880 (Solaris 8) with SVM raid-5:
# ptime du -kds foo
15043722 foo
real 6.955
user 0.964
sys 5.492
And now the new machine - T5140 (latest Solaris 10) with ZFS

Outgoing IP of forwarded requests
I have a linux server with 3 public IPs, and I use SSH tunnelling to connect to each of them.
Let's call them: 1.1.1.1 (venet0:0), 1.1.1.2 (venet0:1), 1.1.1.3 (venet0:2).
When I tunnel using 1.1.1.1, outgoing IP for the public is: 1.1.1.1.
But when I tunnel using 1.1.1.2 or 1.1.1.3, the outgoing IP for the public is still 1.1.1.1.
I've been googling for days, and tried relevant channels

Help on adding a negative binomial density plot
Dear list,
I am just starting on analysis of count data in R 3.4.0. My dataset was obtained from counting particles on a surface before andd after a cleaning process. The sampling positions on the surface are pre-defined and are the same before and after cleaning. I have ~20% of 0's. I want to know if the cleaning process was useful at reducing the number of particles.
I first fit a

sunos 4.1.4 Makefile and regex.[ch] fix
Hi,
At the office, there is an old ss5 box running sunos 4.1.4.
I have configured openssh using gcc on this machine.
In doing so, I found a few compilation and configuration problems.
1. Compilation Problem.
SunOS 4.1.4 doesn't have regex.h header nor the entry points regex.c
is supposed to offer.
Solution.
Copy regex.c and regex.h from, say, GNU awk distribution to
the openssh directory

Problem with VFS audit and recycle
Is there anyone running Samba 3.0.X on Solaris 8 that has VFS working? I
am dying to know if this is a problem with my setup or if there is
something else going on. If you do have it working, please let me know
which module. Thanks.

Booting fails with `Can not read the pool label'' error
I''m still trying to find a fix/workaround for the problem described in
Unable to mount root pool dataset
http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=492460
Since the Blade 1500''s rpool is mirrored, I''ve decided to detach the
second half of the mirror, relabel the disk, create an alternative rpool
(rpool2) there, copy the current BE (snv_134) using beadm

R function that duplicates Octave's poly function?
By any chance is anyone aware of an R function that duplicates Octave's poly function?
Here is a description of Octave's poly function:
Function File: poly (A)
If A is a square N-by-N matrix, `poly (A)' is the row vector of
the coefficients of `det (z * eye (N) - a)', the characteristic
polynomial of A. As an example we can use this to find the
eigenvalues

Hi All - I use qemu on my centOS 7.7 box that has software raid of 2- SSD
disks.
I installed an nVME drive in the computer also. I tried to insall CentOS8
on it

The process started installing but is really "slow" - I was expecting with
the nvme device it would be much quicker.
Is there something I am missing how to

Samba 3.0.4 fails to compile on Solaris 9
I have been trying to compile Samba 3.0.4 on a SunFire v880 running Solaris
9 but "make" generates a fatal error. My goal is to get Samba compiled
with the "--with-ldapsam" option so that I can use SunOne Directory Server
5.2 as the back-end repository for user authentication. I have gcc version
3.3.2 installed in /usr/local/bin/gcc which I have used to successfully
