SOLVED: failed to create ldlinux.sys
I have been having problems with syslinux not working on one system. The
error message was "failed to create ldlinux.sys". I checked and mcopy
was installed. But upon further investigation I finally found the
problem. I were starting syslinux for python (2.4) and in the python
code I made it ignore SIGNCHLD. It turns out that this signal state was
inherited by syslinux and it made

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
Hi,
I'm getting this error when I ssh to the servers.
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
I added /etc/hosts.allow and it actually worked once and if I tried again I get the same error.

Patch: open port forwards from slave
We run ssh from a program and needed to add port-forwards dynamically.
The ~C method turns out to be very cumbersome to use since it reads from
/dev/tty. But then I came to think of the master/slave functionality
(which we already used) which seemed a perfect place for this
functionality. Unfortunately it turned out not to be possible to set up
new port forwards in a slave.
So I patched openssh

SFTP in Java
Hi,
I have to implement SFTP using a Java program.
I am looking for a package that implements a SFTP Client(preferably with
sample code on usage). I need this in order to do SFTP file upload from my
Java program.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Preetha.

SSH v3 specs?
Has any thought toward a v3 protocol spec been discussed
elsewhere, and if so what enhancements are being looked
at. Is it too early to consider such things, or should we
open the door to the new features a protocol update would
bring?
More specifically I have been investigating working toward
a more enterprise-friendly hierichical authentication
scheme, but I have quickly realized the

Hung connection over Juniper Tunnel
Hello list!
So I recently reconfigured our office network to allow a permanent VPN
connection to our data center. This consists of a Juniper SSG-520
connected via a tunnel to a Juniper Netscreen-25 over a 100M leased
NTT VPN (yes I'm tunneling over the VPN as it's the only way to make
it routable.) Here is where OpenSSH come in. When I try and ssh to a
machine on the other end

Add missing -o options in ssh(1) manual
A few options appear to be missing from the list in ssh's manual.
The one I didn't add is EnableSSHKeysign, whose description implies
it is only effective when placed in the system-wide config file.

IdentityFile option escape sequences
Hello,
I'm using openssh-4.3p2 compiled for sparc-sun-solaris2.8. I'm trying
to use the IdentityFile option with the escape sequences for the remote
host name (%h) and remote user name (%r) as documented in ssh-config
<http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=ssh_config&sektion=5&arch=&apropos=0&manpath=OpenBSD+Current>.
It seems the escape sequences do not

Blocking the password-guessing bots
Recently I grew tired of the repeated ssh brute-force scanning bots so I
implemented a blocking algorithm in our version of OpenSSH. My goal was
to find an algorithm which could block most of the brute-force attempts
while being simple to implement and not rely on any external software.
The algorithm I came up with is that login attempts are blocked if there
has been X failed, and no successful,

Sending immediate PAM auth failure messages via kbd-int
Hi.
One thing that people seem to want to do with PAM is to deny a login
immediately without interacting but return a message to the user. (Some
platforms implement, eg, /etc/nologin via PAM this way.) Currently, sshd
will just deny the login and the user will not be told why.
Attached it a patch that return a keyboard-interactive packet with the
message in the "instruction"

Heh, I kinda like that. You should update the yes/no prompt to say that
pasting the expected host key will result in appropriate testing, as well as
providing some sort of error if the remote side *doesn't* match the key pasted
in.
I hadn't thought of cut

Converting old F-Secur SSH-keys
Hi,
I just tries to convert an old ssh2 dsa-key generated by F-Secure SSH in
1998. The problem is that the base64-encoding of this key is bad. They
key works just fine when using F-Secure SSH but openssh will not convert
it.
My question now is if people think it is worth fixing this, and if it is
where should it be fixed? One could either fixed the base64-routines to
be more tolerant, but that

OpenSSH with "resumable" functionality
I just stumbled across this thread on openssh-dev...
Is there anywhere to track progress on this issue? It'd be a fantastic
feature that would fix all sorts of problems I deal with regularly.
You may also be interested in an article "Design and Implementation of a
Mobile SSH Protocol", if you haven't seen it, since that team implemented
(afaict) the same feature, whether or not

KbdInteract not mentioned on sshd.8, cryptocard?
Hello all,
I just noticed that 'KbdInteractiveAuthentication' is not mentioned in
sshd.8 or anywhere else on the man page. Someone with better knowledge
about it than me, please fix this :-)
Also, there were talks about supporting cryptocards about 3 months ago.
Is there work being done on this?

SecurID patch.
What are the chances of getting the SecurID patch integrated into OpenSSH? I
think I asked before and was told that it could be done with PAM, but I (and
others) are not satisfied with the PAM support.
This "tight" integration seems to work much better.
If not, I'll just sit on my rogue patches :-(
