Socket options not properly set for ssh and sshd.
I mentioned this problem in a previous post (in November). This time I'm including a patch. Version: OpenSSH_2.3.0p1 Keywords: setsockopt keepalive hang masquerade interactive Symptom: For protocol 2, socket options (especially keepalive) are not being properly set for OpenSSH_2.3.0p1, even when request in the config files. Furthermore (for either protocol), keepalive is only set for

linux sockets on centos (slightly off topic)
Hi all, I have a snippit from the linux sockets (below) talking about detecting when a socket is closed on the other end. It says the doing a read() will eventually inform you the socket is ECONNRESET. I am not seeing this I open a socket to the peer. I UNPLUG the peer. I plug back in the peer. all the time I am doing read()'s on linux and I get returns of -1 and errno is EINTR from the

RFC 8305 Happy Eyeballs in OpenSSH
Hello, I use hosts that are dual stack configured (IPv4 and IPv6) and it happens that connectivity through one or the other is broken and timeouts. In these case connection to the SSH server can take quite some time as ssh waits for the first address to timeout before trying the next. So I gave a stab at implementing RFC 8305. This patch implements part of it in sshconnect.c. * It does not do

Important fix (sshd && binding). Portable version only.
If bind() fails we _always_ should close socket. rsync 3.0.7 network errors on MS-Windows
I am experiencing intermittent network failures on rsync 3.0.7 built using cygwin for Windows-XP (SP2). I am using GCC v4.4.2 and the latext version of cygwin. The rsync error long indicates things like: rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes to socket [generator]: Connection reset by peer (104)rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104) rsync error: error in rsync

[Patch] SSH through HTTP proxy using CONNECT
Hi, I'm not a subscriber to this list so please CC: me in any replies. I found myself in a situation where I was behind a corporate firewall that allowed only web requests to the outside world (and furthermore those requests had to be via their proxy server). Therefore, I couldn't SSH to the outside world. However, the HTTP proxy 'CONNECT' method, which is normally used to

new feature w/ patch
I've attached a patch to OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 that will allow the client side of local port forwarding to be bound to a single address. For my purposes, binding to 127.0.0.1 or (via GatewayPorts) all addresses would not work. I overloaded the "-b local_host" option so that it's address will be used when "-L port:remote_host:remote_port" is also specified. Today is the first

%h,%p,%u expansion for ControlPath
This allows me to set 'ControlPath ~/.ssh/sockets/%h.%p.%u' for example. Have I missed a good reason why ssh_connect finds the default port number for itself instead of just having it in options.port (like we do for the the default in options.user)? --- openssh-4.1p1/ssh.c~ 2005-06-12 09:47:18.000000000 +0100 +++ openssh-4.1p1/ssh.c 2005-06-12 09:40:53.000000000 +0100 @@ -604,6 +604,17

A little utility for checking socket settings
I've been in discussion with a colleague who had to reduce (!) SO_SNDBUF to get decent performance, and so wrote this little tool. It tells you the system default for most of the settable socket options. It can't do linger, as the value is a struct instead of an int, but that's probably uninteresting to Samba folks. Run this to see what you'd have if you didn't set any

connect() timeout patch.
Hello all, I am wondering where one would submit a patch to OpenSSH cvs version? I have written a patch that allows the user to set a timeout the ssh clients connection attempt. I added this because many of us use ssh in automated scripts and in some cases machines may no longer be reachable, rather than wait you can set the timeout to say 3 seconds (-z switch). -- Larry Cashdollar

remote port forward failed because of failure resolving localhost to IP with error No such file or directory
Hi all, I'm using openssh 5.9p1 with the remote port forwarding "ssh -R 20000:localhost:22 xxx at x.x.x.x". The tunnel is set up. But when I write data to the tunnel, the ssh client failed to forward the data to the localhost. The debug is below: debug1: client_input_channel_open: ctype forwarded-tcpip rchan 2 win 131072 max 32768 debug1: client_request_forwarded_tcpip: listen

LocalForward and RemoteForward bind patch
FINALLY, it's here. You can now tell SSH which address to bind to for every single port forwarding option! This patch allows you to pass the following as ssh command line options: ssh -L 192.168.1.55:1234:localhost:80 -R ::11:22:aa:bb/80/localhost/80 etc. Or as normal config file options: LocalForward ::11:22:33/1234 localhost/80 RemoteForward 1.2.3.4:80 localhost:80 It will also

sftp/scp performance testing

Test simply involved transferring a single 143MB MP3 file using defaults for all the program configs. The opensshd 3.0.2p1 server is used in all tests. patch to support hurd-i386
Hi, here's a patch so that ssh also supports hurd-i386. Thanks for incorporating. The patch comes from Robert Bihlmeyer <robbe at orcus.priv.at>. > openssh 2.2.0p1-1.1 does not build on the Hurd. The appended patch > fixes that. Changes in detail: > * PAM is not (yet?) supported, so the PAM dependencies are only put into > the control file on architectures != hurd-i386.

X11 display issues
Hi, This also has been discussed in SSHSCI's SSH context. All SSH versions (both SSHSCI and OpenSSH) derive value for DISPLAY variable from `uname -n`. The problem is that the returned value is not necessarily resolvable to a valid IP number which in turn might cause a failure. To make it fool-proof I suggest to set DISPLAY to the interface's address the user has reached the system in

OpenSSH PATCH: OpenCommand and CloseCommand
Hi, the attached patch adds support for the keywords "OpenCommand" and "CloseCommand" to ssh_config. They are commands which are executed before the connection is established (or ProxyCommand started) and after the connection has been closed (or ProxyCommand ended). this is usefull for stuff like portknocking or (that's what I wrote the patch for) talking with trapdoor2

[PATCH] Implement remote dynamic TCP forwarding
Hi all, This is a client side only implementation of reversed dynamic (SOCKS) TCP forwarding, which means it is compatible with any existing servers have 'remote forward' capability. To establish such forward, use "ssh -R [BIND_ADDRESS:]PORT ...". The server will listen on that port and address and accept SOCKS traffics. Hope this will be useful for you. There was an
