XDMCP - no GDM login, only gray screen with X
I'm having trouble getting the GDM login screen to show up when I connect from a remote host. I'm using Xming on the local Windows machine, but every time I connect to the remote server all I get is a gray window with the X cursor. I have "Enable=true" in the [xdmcp] section of /etc/gdm/custom.conf. IPtables is disabled. I've googled around and read through the xdmcp page

Using LightDM as a headless XDMCP server without physical graphics card
Hi, I'm currently testing the XDMCP functionality of LightDM which seems to work flawless, however, there is one issue which I cannot resolve: The machine I am using for my setup is a dedicated machine running some VM's, these VM's don't have any graphics card associated and run headless and the only form of command is via a web interface or SSH. LightDM seems to use the

XDMCP
Dear SAMBA team: I have a question about SAMBA because I install red hat linux 6.2 server in our server and it is in the NT LAN. I try to let other NT machine log in to that linux server through Reflection X. So I choose SAMBA. I would want to know that does SAMBA support XDMCP ? Because Reflection X use XDMCP broadcast and it can detect other servers on our NT LAN. And

Cannot reconnect network drives from Windows XP
Dear Samba List, My Windows XP machine is unable to reconnect my Linux samba network drive when I login. I installed: Win2000_PlainPassword.reg which allows me to connect manually, but it is a requirement that this be automatic on each login. Has anyone found a way to achieve this? Thanks, Dick

Danny, Kristian, All, First let me tell you guys whatever you are doing with compiz, keep it up! It's looking great! I have a new error on ArchLinux when running compiz 0.8.2.1 that I have never seen before. I installed Archlinux on 2 boxes to check it out. One on a x86_64 box with the nvidia driver (no problems there) and one on an i686 box with onboard intel video. When connecting over

iptables settings for X11 forwarding in CentOS 6.2
Hi, We recently installed CentOS 6.2 on our cluster. During the installation/debugging of various secondary software, we had disabled iptables. When we re-enabled them, we found that the front-end would no longer X11 forward (although it does so when the iptables are off). What do we need to set in the iptables to permit X11 forwarding? Currently we're using iptables -P INPUT DROP

X-Windows client for MS-Win2K
An intermittent need to connect to a CentOS4 development box from a MS-Win2K workstation using X-Windows has developed here. However, I cannot seem to find a cheap (read free) X-windows client for MS- Windows to accommodate this. This seems very odd to me, displaying no doubt my profound ignorance of the issues involved. The few shareware versions that I have located expect registration

I understand why we do not have sftp in openssh, but it would be nice if we could make it so that when an SSH.COM scp2 client makes a connection to an OpenSSH V2 daemon that it does not hang.... Any ideas or do I need to dig a bit on this? Here is what the sshd says when I conenct to it from scp2: debug: session_open: session 0: link with channel 0 debug: confirm session debug:

I can sucessfully log on the server using telnet and rlogin. The problem arise when I try to log on the server using remote login from Solaris workstation or reflection-x from windows clients. BIND 9.9 apparmor rules with Samba
Hi Current wiki suggestion (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_BIND_as_backend_for_Samba_AD#Interaction_with_AppArmor_or_SELinux) is to add the following to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.named # Samba4 DLZ and Active Directory Zones (default source installation) /usr/local/samba/lib/** rm, /usr/local/samba/private/dns.keytab r, /usr/local/samba/private/named.conf r,
