use libcrypt before libcrypto
these days many unix-based systems contain crypt() with more than DES support (for instance, MD5 in freebsd/openbsd/netbsd, bcrypt in openbsd/netbsd). we need to use crypt() in libcrypt, not in licrypto, as much as possible. itojun --- configure.ac.orig Tue Jun 25 10:56:47 2002 +++ configure.ac Tue Jun 25 10:57:25 2002 @@ -697,6 +702,9 @@ ) fi +# use libcrypt if there is

ssh not resolving host names on HP-UX 11i
Actually it really never was answered, but here's how I fixed (worked around) it. At first I thought installing patch PHNE_27796 (libnss_dns DNS backend patch) had fixed it. It didn't. It just flip-flopped the problem. Prior to installing that patch, ssh would never go to DNS no matter what was in nsswitch.conf. It appeared to only look in /etc/hosts. After installing the patch, ssh

getnameinfo() call and fake-rfc2553.c
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH 4.2p1. The getnameinfo() call in my system libc is broken and as a result SSH fails saying getnameinfo failed:host nor service provided. Im thinking of using getnameinfo() call available from openbsd-compat directory to get rid of this problem. As this is a production system, we can't make changes without convincing my syadmin and managers. I understand that

problems with 3.7.1p1 on IRIX (again)
Hi, I've seen a few messages re. problems with 3.7.1p1 on IRIX 6.5... I'm using 6.5.19 and having no trouble compiling, installing and starting, but sshd just closes the connection with no explanation. debug/verbose modes don't seem to give any clues. Darren Tucker suggested defining BROKEN_GETADDRINFO in config.h, but I find that compilation then fails (assuming I've implemented

[PATCH] Build problem in current portable CVS
Hi, I just tried to build the latest portable code from CVS on Cygwin. I stumbled over a problem with the definitions of gai_strerror and ssh_gai_strerror. On systems not having gai_strerror, the fake-rfc2553.c file defines its own version of gai_strerror, and fake-rfc2553.h additionally has this definition of gai_strerror: #define gai_strerror(a) (ssh_gai_strerror(a)) OTOH, misc.c

A question on Compilation errors...
Hello I am attempting to build on a LynxOS platform and am using a old version of zlib and OpenSSL-0.9.6a. I get past the configure stage by ignoring the zlib version check. However, at make stage I run into the following undefineds. Any idea what may be causing this. I am using version 3.8p1 of OpenSSH. Thank you in advance for your response Amba (cd openbsd-compat && make)

Probably broken getaddrinfo() on Solaris x86.
Hi, I discovered a strange problem with the latest version (2.9.9p2) and previous versions of OpenSSH when using portforwarding und Solaris 8 x86. It seems like the getaddrinfo() function on Solaris 8 x86 is somehow broken, instead of binding a port to 127.0.0.1, OpenSSH tried to bind it to 1.0.0.127 (1.0.0.127 was the ai->ai_addr returned by getaddrinfo() in channel.c). I could not

[PATCH] Use canonical hostname for DNS SSHFP lookup
In the current implementation, ssh always uses the hostname supplied by the user directly for the SSHFP DNS record lookup. This causes problems when using the domain search path, e.g. I have "search example.com" in my resolv.conf and then do a "ssh host", I will connect to host.example.com, but ssh will query the DNS for an SSHFP record of "host.", not

IPv4/v6 socket problem on BSD
Currently, if IPv6-enabled rsync is run as --daemon, it will perform a wildcard bind(2) on an AF_INET6 socket and expect that IPv4 traffic will be forwarded to the v6 socket (IPv4 mapped address, RFC2553). This has never worked on OpenBSD which disallows IPv4 mapped addresses for security reasons. On FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT, where the behavior is subject to configuration, the default was switched to

[Bug 748] HP-UX 11.11 (aka 11i) needs BROKEN_GETADDRINFO
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=748 ------- Additional Comments From dtucker at zip.com.au 2004-01-29 21:47 ------- So far no-one has said anything about IPv6 working or not on HP-UX 11.11, so we don't know whether or not it works. We do know that (in some cases, anyway) IPv4 doesn't work because of the getaddrinfo issue. Based on the currently available information,
