AIX SSH 2.x ssh and /etc/ftpusers rcp rlogin WRONG !
IF ssh is a replacement for rlogin, rsh etc I can accept it respecting
rlogin=false as rlogin does and rsh does not, however scp is a replacement
for rcp, and rcp does NOT use rlogin attribute, so the implementation is
NOT standard as scp fails if rlogin=false, but rcp succeeds, as documented.
thanks

AIX 5.1 /etc/security/failedlogin entry with OpenSSH 4.1p1
Hello
Ive downloaded OpenSSH 4.1p1 from the portable openssh web pages...
Compiled it up for an AIX 5.1 host (with latest IBM maintenance patches
applied)
using defaults in all cases.
When doing a successful SSH authentication it places an entry into
/etc/security/failedlogin
as well as /var/adm/wtmp
Ive also tried adding "UseLogin yes" to the sshd_config
PAM ISNT configured (infact

Ext3, 2.4.10, and 2.4 in general
Hello,
The 0.9.9 2.4.10pre4 patch doesn't apply. There are 5 rejects. The
first three are easy to fix, but
the fourth in vmscan.c will be very difficult without being a developer.
The fifth I am not sure about.
This brings up the fact that many of us are using ext3 and have to patch
every time a new kernel
comes out. I really think we need to strong arm Linus or something and

ssh - NO SALE or NO GIVE ?
Thanks to everyone who has replied to my emails so far - to summarise:
AIX allows setting of rlogin=false and and a su group, or a list of users
that are permitted to "su" to root. ( or other functional ids )
This means with entries in /etc/ftpusers, it is possible to :
1/ Track who used root via sulog and or external logging
2/ Protect root even if the root password is compromised

First steps in Dovecot; IMAP not working
Hello,
First of all, I'm sorry if you received this mail twice; I haven't received
it the first time so I think it was lost. Second attempt.
I've made some more tests and I still can't receive mails.
Outlook doesn't complain about anything, no error message; the mails that
are supposed to be received just won't appear.
In the mail logs, I find this line (other lines are

NFS locking ...maybe?
Hi folks,
After some more trial and error, I was able to get a bit further in
the game with the permission issues I had (previous message was titled
'Samba permissions...) Now I'm able to get onto the system, browse and
read/copy/delete files off of the shares. What I can't do is put stuff
on because I get a locking error.
The setup is as follows:

VSFTPD problem ?
I have 1 Centos server V4.x already running VSFTPD and when the user logs in
they get chrooted to the home directory, I have installed the same config
files to a second server (again Centos V4.x) and have setup the same user on
the second server but the user does not get chrooted to the home directory
but is placed in /var/ftp/pub and cannot upload file.
The files I copied are:-

[Bug 355] No last login message with PrivSep under AIX
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355
------- Additional Comments From dtucker at zip.com.au 2002-08-25 18:10 -------
It looks like the call to loginsuccess() fails because it's done as a
non-privileged user. This is bad because in addition to generating the message
it also clears the failed login counter that leads to account lockout.
The following patch fixes it for me

Problem: Copying large amount of files to SAMBA Server. W2K Error "file in use" for exe files.
Hi all,
first i want to say a big "Hello" to the list, since this is my first posting here.
Yesterday i just installed another SAMBA server on a middle class (K6-2 500, 128MB)
machine.
All shares are accessable like expected but i often get an
"Can't move file. File in use." error from my W2K client when moving large
amount of files to the SAMBA server.

ext3 0.9.6 vs ext3 0.9.9
Hello,
I have done extensive testing between 2.4.9 and 2.4.9-ac12 with ext3
0.9.6 and 0.9.9. I also tried using both kgcc and gcc-2.96.
I have a problem with logging into xdm or starting the gnome-session
totally locking up the machine while using ext3 0.9.9.
It seems to go away using ext3-0.9.6. During xdm/gnome-session the hard
disk is under heavy activity. I have attached my
kernel config.

I use filezilla and Mac OS X native ftp access, both fails with
incorrect login (530)
WTF can be wrong? Or what may I have

Running CentOS 4.6 domUs on CentOS 5.1 dom0 and domUs crash
I have a CentOS 5.1 dom0 running on a machine with two cores and 4gb
of memory. It runs three 4.6 domUs and one 5.1 domU. Just out of the
blue the other night all the 4.6 domUs crashed, but the dom0 stayed up.
I ran xm console (domU-name) and got the Oops information below. I
didn't get anything from the 5.1 domU. I think it had been rebooted a
few days before and hadn't come up

Preventing a user from moving "up" directories
I am in the process of setting up a new server. In the process I cannot
remember what I need to set so that an FTP user cannot move upward in
the directory tree of the user's directory. The FTP server is VSFTP.
The user's directory is owned by the user and the permissions are 775.
Isn't there a setting in httpd.conf to prevent that?

quota support on AIX
Hellow, members
I want to use SAMBA with disk quota support on AIX machine,
but have not succeeded yet. Are there any members who could
succeeded setting up SAMBA on that environment?

First, I configured AIX's quota environment, and confirmed quota
worked fine. And I accessed to SAMBA, but disk size displayed
