Rhosts Authentication broken in 3.4.p1???
Has ANYONE been able to verify that Rhosts authentication works with
3.4.p1? Does it work with other SSHv2 implementations? Anybody tried
it on a RedHat 7.3 system?
Also, I'm curious about this code I found in sshd.c:
/*
* Check that the connection comes from a privileged port.
* Rhosts-Authentication only makes sense from priviledged
* programs. Of course, if

Execution problems with 3.4.p1 and 3.6.p1
Folks,
I have installed openssh-3.1.p1 and 3.4.p1 successfully
int the past. When I tried to install 3.6.p1 it would
not start. The init script created an error message to
the affect the it could not find *ELF*. I the tried to
reinstall 3.4.p1. It's startup said Error 255 .../sshd .. bailing.
I then installed Solaris patch for /dev/random and reinstalled
3.4.p1... I got error .... sshd:

openssh 3.1 and rsync dont work - BUTssh 2.9.9.p1 does !
We have AIX 4.3.3 ML09 and AIX 5.1 ML01
I have narrowed the problem down, it is nothing to do with
uni/multiprocessor machines.
Both rsync 2.3.1 compiled by Bull in an installp and a gcc compiled
version of 2.4.5 ( by me ) both have exactly the same problem with SSH
3.1.p1 and both DONT have the problem with SSH 2.9.9p1 - so I assume this
is something highly specific to SSH 3.1.1.p1
Hope this

(from BugTraq) openssh2.2.p1 - Re: scp file transfer hole
X-PMC-CI-e-mail-id: 13726
Hi,
I have been a successful user of Openssh for some time.
I am attaching two articles from BugTraq.
Hopefully, they show exactly the security problems
reported in the BugTraq mailing list.
[Pity that no one seemed to have bothered to contact the
mailing list(s) for openssh development.]
I am not sure what the right fixes would be.
But at least, people need to be

Patch to allow openssh-2.2.0-p1 to be started from /etc/inittab
The following patch allows OpenSSH 2.2.0-p1 to be started (and managed)
from /etc/inittab (by "init") on systems which support that. This is
useful when you *really* want SSHD to always run since it will be
automatically restarted by "init" if it dies (and if "init" dies the
the systems dies :-).
I use a line (in /etc/inittab) like this on Solaris systems:

OpenSSH 4.0 p1 and zlib vulnerability
Hi,
Im using OpenSSH 4.0 p1 linked with zlib version less then 1.2.2 in a number
of systems. These are all production systems where I can't upgrade the
service. I have a question that if I disable the compression by setting
"compression no" in sshd_config, will I be able to overcome the Buffer
overflow vulnerability in zlib. I just glanced through the code and it seems
sshd is

Building 3.7-p1 on i686-pc-linux-gnu for execution on i386-pc-linux-gnu
I have a small single-board computer (SBC) I'd like to run OpenSSH on,
but when I build the binaries on my development station and copy them
over, I get "Illegal Instruction" errors when running them (sshd,
ssh-keygen, ssh-add, ssh-agent, ssh-keyscan).
I have successfully built zlib 1.2.1 and tested it with minigzip on the
SBC, so I don't think the problem is with zlib.
I have

Please don't send bug reports to my personal email address. Use the
mailing list (openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org), that's what it's there for.
