ext3 partition compatibility
Recently, I had some experiences that raises the question as to how compatible (how safe) it is to mount and then read/write a partition using a system such as FC1 or debian where the partition was created under FC3. 1. I recently attempted to run e2fsck running on a FC1 system against a FC3 ext3 partition ... the program refused to run. When I took the e2fsprogs package from FC3 and

5.9 logwatch yum filter broken
After the upgrade to CentOS 5.9, all my CentOS 5 installations report only "Unmatched Entries" in the "yum" section of their daily logwatch mails. It seems the filter script /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/yum got broken: --------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8< [root at dns01 ~]# /usr/sbin/logwatch --print --service yum

logwatch and yum
Not sure if anybody noticed that logwatch is not reporting any stuff from /var/log/yum.log file. This is due to date format in log file (yum uses standard syslog date format, while logwatch script expects US date format). It seems that upstream doesn't ship with yum at all, so I guesss the problem was never detected there (and in most likeliness not applicable to it, although the upstream

Bug in yum Logwatch reporting
I've been noticing yum updates on several servers I manage over the last few weeks, which I know I didn't perform and could not explain until this morning. At first I suspect a break-in, but found no other evidence or reason an intruder would run the yum updates I was viewing. Yum updates are logged in /var/log/yum.log, which is what Logwatch scans. Seems that the format of the log

Samba-to-Samba connection problems
Hey list, I'm still having some issues getting 2 Fedora machines running Samba 3.0.7 to stay connected for any length of time. My setup looks like this: 1 of the systems is set up as a Samba Server as the main fileserver. I have some Windows XP machines connecting to it just fine, nice and fast. However, I also have some FC2 systems that connect to it using the smbfs filesystem, and while

FC1 and FC2 RPMs now available
I have made my first run at building FC1 and FC2 rpms for Asterisk 1.0.0. These are based off of Greg's spec files which a few minor changes. Source and binary RPMs are available at: ftp://asterisk.purplehat.net/pub/asterisk/ Please report any problems with these files to myself and not Greg as he has nothing to do with these builds. :) Sorry these took so long; it was a wild week at

Logwatch
Having FC3 systems and utilizing Dovecot, I have come to rely on some of the information I get from the daily logwatch run. Logwatch, by default, doesn't properly recognize dovecot's information in the messages file, but it is easy to tweak. The patch below will give you some statistics regarding POP3 and IMAP usage. I believe I grabbed all of the differences in the unified diff

CentOS-6 Logwatch 7.3.6 behaviour
After some experimenting I have observed that overriding settings from /usr/share/logwatch/default.conf/logwatch.conf in /etc/logwatch/conf/logwatch.conf does not produce consistent results. For example, if I replace the default detail configuration in etc/logwatch/conf/logwatch.conf with: Detail = High It does indeed change the level of detail from the default Low set in
