Support for AIX native (.bff) packages: patch available
Hello All, I've written basic support for creating AIX native packages (ie installp/SMIT installable .bff's) that lives in contrib/aix. It is based on Ben Lindstrom's Solaris buildpkg.sh. It requires no special tools and all code was either written by me or derived from the openssh distribution itself. It is made available under the same terms as buildpkg.sh (ie public domain).

[patch] AIX package build fixes, please commit
Hello All, This is a resend of a patch I posted nearly two weeks ago. As of a few minutes ago, it hasn't been committed and thus the AIX package builds from CVS fail. (I know because I now have a cron job that tells me :-) Could someone please review and commit the attached patch and chmod a+x contrib/aix/*.sh, or let me know what needs to be changed? It makes the following changes

Patch: Solaris packages don't create privsep user or group
Hi. Solaris packages created by buildpkg.sh don't create privsep user or group and sshd won't start until they are created (or privsep is disabled): ## Executing postinstall script. starting /usr/local/sbin/sshd... Privilege separation user sshd does not exist /etc/init.d/opensshd: Error 255 starting /usr/local/sbin/sshd... bailing. The attached patch (against -cvs) ports the relevant

AIX usrinfo() cleanup.
Can we do this? Or should we drop the whole char *tty; ? There will be no way of setting the TTY= correctly while using privsep (Mainly for multiple streams over single session). The only thing we really could do is do: In do_setusercontext() if (use_privsep) aix_usrinfo(pw, NULL); and back in the old spot put: if (!use_privsep) aix_usrinfo(pw, s->ttyfd == -1 ? NULL : s->tty);

Testing Call
Ok.. I'm starting official testing calls early this release. I'd like to have more feedback and more time for handling fixes. If people could test snapshots (http://www.openssh.org/portable.html, pick your favorate mirror and select snapshots directory) and report failures it would be useful. For those with pmake install there is regress/ which you can try out. It may help any platform

[Bug 283] UsePrivilegeSeparation fails on AIX, Couldn't set usrinfo:

I meant to say that commenting out: if (usrinfo(SETUINFO, cp, i) == -1) fatal("Couldn't set usrinfo: %s", strerror(errno)); from openbsd-compat/port-aix.c makes sshd function with

PAM patch for openssh 3.7.1p2
SecureComputing's PAM library doesn't pass back the correct context to the pam_conversation function, i.e. it passes back NULL. So this patch works around this fact. likely you'll only want this hack if you expect to use pam_safeword.so in your authentication check, and only if you run sshd in privilege separation (separate process) mode so that the PAM conversation is single

OpenSSH-3.1p1 AIX packaging bug [patch]
Hello, The change in release number broke some some assumptions in buildbff.sh: * SSH_VERSION was always on the last line of version.h * The OpenSSH version number would give a valid installp version (which must have four parts). Thanks to Mandar Mirashi for pointing this out. Anyone affected can try the following patch which works for me and hopefully will behave sanely in future. -Daz.

OpenSSH-3.1p1 AIX buildbff.sh patch
Hello All, Attached is a patch makes the following changes to contrib/aix relative to 3.1p1: * Gets version number from ssh -V as suggested by Tim Rice. * Does a better job of generating valid AIX package version numbers (fixes inutoc "format of the toc file is invalid" and "invalid level" errors reported by Mandar Mirashi). * Tests for "make install" failure and

OpenSSH 3.3p1 on SunOS 4.1.4
Hi, I just installed OpenSSH 3.3p1 on a SunOS 4.1.4 system (actually a 3-year old Auspex file server) as a replacement for an older, probably vulnerable ssh version. I used gcc, openssl 0.9.6d, zlib 1.1.4 and the configure incantation ./configure --with-tcp-wrappers --with-privsep-user=privsep (the latter option obviously being the default value). There were two problems: (a) memmove seems

buildpkg.sh enhancements
I've made some changes to buildpkg.sh to make it easier for package builders to add their local changes. I'd like people that use buildpkg.sh to test and comment on these changes before I commit them to CVS. None of the defaults have changed. Some of the patch is is just moving chunks of code to a different location to make some of the enhancements work. Some things you may find

Tru64 patch won't make it into 3.5 due to lack of interest.
Tru64 patch will not make it into 3.5 (this is final) due to lack of willing people to test. I have given the Tru64/osf1 community almost a month to test it. And *ONE* person came forward to give me verification. And don't give me shit about "I don't have time." The person who tested it was LEAVING his employer with Tru64. He found time. IT IS YOUR GAWD DAMN PLATFORM. IF

README.privsep
Hi, This is included in the release now; any feedback? Privilege separation, or privsep, is method in OpenSSH by which operations that require root privilege are performed by a separate privileged monitor process. Its purpose is to prevent privilege escalation by containing corruption to an unprivileged process. More information is available at:

uid transition and post-auth privsep (WAS Re: possible fundamental problem with tru64 patch) (fwd)
What do we loose by not having post-auth privsep? What code is executed between authorization and actual setting of the effective uid?
