NEW: Urgent: OpenSSH_3.0.1p1 disconnects due to bad packet length and corrupted MAC on input.
NEW message w/ URL to zip archive containing debug output. Hi I'm having huge problems with OpenSSH 3.0.1p1, compiled with OpenSSL 0.9.6b 9 Jul 2001 and running with prngd_0.9.23, it disconnects unexpectedly during client session due to bad packet length and corruped MAC on input, according to debug anyway. What can cause this kinds of errors? I've verified that both se9104/server and

scp on the client-side requires scp on the server-side as well
Hi, A couple of days ago I realized that 'scp' on the client-side requires 'scp' on the server-side as well. client:scp -> server:sshd -> server:scp It this really the way it should be? IMHO it seems like a bad design. I usually create a Solaris-package with prngd, sshd, ssh-keygen and name it OpenSSH-3.x.x-serveronly but now I have to also include 'scp'. Is it

portmap & tcpwrappers
I don't know if this is RedHat 5.1 specific, but be aware that the version of portmap distributed is the enhanced (Wietse Venema) version. That's great, except for two things. The first is documented, but easy to overlook: "In order to avoid deadlocks, the portmap program does not attempt to look up the remote host name or user name...The upshot of all this is that only network

Trouble with *80, *82
Hi, I'm having trouble dialling the codes for blacklist & un-hide caller ID (*80 & *82) using a TDM400. I get reorder tone as soon as I dial *8, and in fact I can pick up calls with just *8 rather than *8# when there is one to be picked up. Ideas? Thanks, brad -- Brad Bergman <bradley@bergman.ca>

Specifying a view template
I''m new to Rails (and liking it!) and I have multiple controllers, each of which has a method which uses a view template which is identical to what the others use. I would like to be able to have just one template to maintain that they can all use. What is the customary way to do this? I tried using render_action to specify the template explicitly, and it "works". But I

Droppable refuse to react
Im having problems with Droppables, and read that there are some attributes on the element that must be inline. What are those? I''ve tried to copy some of the code from the shop-demo, and my code seems to have the exact same attributes and more. The problem is that the droppable refuse to react whenever I attempt to drop a draggable on it, the onDrop does''nt seem to trigger.

Syslinux drive confusion
I have the following problem with syslinux. With boards with same core chipset and bios, syslinux fails on some boards. The difference on boards are that the ones that succeed has standard PC components (KBC, PATA). The ones that failes have SATA only and no KBC. It does not matter if I boot from USB or Compact flash drive. I has been noted that the bootloader calls BIOS functions for a drive

Eggcups printer icon not showing up in panel
I did a "side grade" on a client's machine freom FC2 to Centos4.2. I am not seeing the eggcups printer icon appear when the user sends a print job. One problem was that I had to copy /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession.rpmnew into place so that the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable got set correctly. The messagebus service is running, as well as hal. There is a notification area in the

Volume of patches for CentOS vs Fedora
I'm trying to come to a decision between CentOS 4.2 and Fedora Core 4 for use on a server. One of the things the server will be serving is X desktops so there are some advantages to Fedora. However, one thing I can't help but notice is that the patch volume for FC4 from Oct 11 2005 thru the present compared to CentOS 4.2 for the same period is about 5 times greater. In fact, since

Current status of --inplace?
In the 3.0.4 version of the man pagem dated June 29, 2008, it still states: """ (5) the efficiency of rsync?s delta-transfer algorithm may be reduced if some data in the destination file is overwritten before it can be copied to a position later in the file """ Also, I know I have read somewhere in the past that the limitation stems from the fact that "rsync

Best quality setting for mp3 transcoded old radio shows
Hi, I have a bunch of old radio programs (mystery/drama shows, not music) encoded at 32 kbit (and some 48kbit) mp3 (mono). I want to reencode them in ogg and make them available over gnutella. My question is this. What is the best quality level (-q) for transcoding them. I want to preserve quality, but I want to be sensitive to the many modem based gnutella users. I also want to to

Extension Problems
Better read up on why a sip phone should register with asterisk. Do a 'sip show peers' and that will be the list of phones that can "receive" calls. ------------------- I've double checked this. Everything is logging in fine, because I can make calls, check my voicemail, everything except recieve calls on the SIP devices. David Phelan wrote:

General question on QA from a Fedora Core fan
Apologies if this ends up a dup, but there seems to have been a problem with my original subscription. ------------------------------ Hello, I am currently using Fedora on most of my servers. It does pretty well. I do have occasional problems which seem to me to stem from poor QA. For example, /usr/bin/enable <queue> coming back with "Enable: I don't know what to do!"

Higher memory requirements for 64 bit?
I have a dual Xeon 3.2GHz XDMCP server serving out about 50 Gnome desktops to thin clients. I currently am running 32 bit with 4GB of memory. Performance is fine, normally, and the machine runs with about 3GB in swap. However, if a user app suddenly sucks up the maximum allowed rss and virtual or 256MB/process as specified by ulimit, the resulting swap drags the machine down to the point that

Buffering time for netstreams
Hi! In the new Windows Media 9, and also Real 9 I think, there are these new features that is supposed to make buffering of netstreams nearly unnoticed. Will that be the case for Theora as well? Does such a feature depend on the OGG container, or the codec design? Or even depend on the server software maybe? <p><p>G L Bergman _____________________________________________________

Generic Text Only printing from wine
Is it possible to do straight text printing from wine? I am trying to get a crufty old application working under wine to replace a windows box. It wants to print to an Okidata using plain ascii. The wine postscript driver works but the printing is quite slow and ragged. Thanks for any assistance. Steve Bergman

page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x50
Just because I've been pulling my hair out for over a month about this problem, I'd like to get it into the archives. When copying large files (multigigabyte) on a CentOS 4.4 4GB Xeon (running 32 bit) server (2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp), I was getting: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x50 (snip lines and lines of debug output) This was accompanied by a huge swapout storm that brought

lowmem_reserve_ratio?
I have moved from the CentOS 4.4 kernel to a 2.6.16.29 kernel.org kernel due to some vm problems I was having. All has gone well except that my free memory now sits at 150MB. It does not like to go above or below that. Basically, 150MB of the system's memory is wasted. Andi Kleen suggested that I try tuning /proc/sys/vm/lowmem_reserve_ratio. The problem is that lowmem_reserve_ratio
