patch to fix non-echo tty on scp SIGINT
A long-time missing feature (or bug, depending on how you look at it) is
that a Ctrl-C at the password prompt in scp does not restore the
terminal settings, thus dropping you to the command prompt without any
keyboard echo. (A "reset" command will fix it.) This is a pretty
regular occurance for me, and some others I've talked to - usually when
you realize that the scp command you

Hanging ssh session...
Hi All,
I am not sure if this is the same thing as the hang on exit bug, so sorry if
this is a duplication of previous stuff.
Essetntially I am experiencing ssh hangs with about .5% - 1% of my
connections. I am running 2.9p2, on Solaris 7. I actually have empirical
data on the hangings, as I wrote a script to create these connections
in an endless loop, setting an alarm so I could recover

[PATCH] let klcc pass input from STDIN to gcc
Some packages want to pass input to gcc via STDIN (iptables for example)
This patch lets klcc accept '-' as a valid input filename, prevents it
from setting -x in that case and changes the invocation of gcc from
system() to open3() so that gcc's STDIN can be connected to klcc's STDIN.

[PATCH] klcc on multiple files
There's a problem in klibc 1.0.12:
klcc -c t.c && klcc t.o && ./a.out
works, but
klcc t.c && ./a.out
fails because open3() wants to close its input,
and you can do that only once to STDIN.
Attached patch makes "klcc t.c" work again.
This might break the klcc from stdin option, but I can't
tell because I've got no idea how it's supposed to

patch for tinc-0.3
Hi tinc list members,
There were some problems with Ivo's email adresses (both zarq@iname.com

zarq@spark.icicle.dhs.org) so I resent the stuff to the mailling list.

JSpeex help
I am not sure if this is right place to ask for help on jspeex or can some one suggest. I have tried on jspeex sourceforge.net page.
I am trying to use Pcm2SpeexAudioInputStream by creating it from tdl which received pcm_signed audio data as follows:
AudioFormat format = new AudioFormat (AudioFormat.Encoding.PCM_SIGNED, 8000, 16, 1, 2, 8000, true);

bivariate linear interpolation
Hi,
I have three matrices (X,Y,P) with the same dimension. The X,Y grid is
regular and I want to
perform linear interpolation to pick out certain points. In matlab
appropriate call is
something like
Pout=interp2(X,Y,P,Xout,Yout, method="linear")
where Xout and Yout are the locations where I want the Pout data
(typically a different grid).

JSpeex help
Hi Sanjiv,
There does indeed appear to be some trouble with
the Javasound SPI encoder (the SPI decoder works well).
I am working on it, and hope to have a fix soon. In the
mean time, you can use the encoder outside of
JavaSound, that one works well (see the command line
encoder as example code of how to implement it).
sincerely

RBloomberg: unable to use 'Corp' to fetch data
I am trying to get new Cusip (registered security) from old . This can be done in excel using BDP command.
For example:
=BDP("000361AJ Corp","ID_CUSIP"), will give 000361AK1.
Can this be done using RBloomberg? Any help will be much appreciated.

graphics device updating (PR#1189)
Hi
problem:
plot(xxx)
results in the graphics device window adding the axes values for what ever xxx is but failing to actually add lines or produce the plot until the consol window is activated and moved over the graphics window. The graphics window then shows what has been plotted.
This started happening 4 days ago, up until that time plot(xxx) would produce the plot on the graphics device

simulating outcomes - categorical distribution (?)
Hi,
I am simulating an event that has 15 possible outcomes and I have a
vector 'pout' that gives me the probability of each outcome -
different outcomes have different probabilities. Does anyone know a
simple way of simulating the outcome of my event?
If my event had only two possible outcomes (0/1) I would pick a
uniform random number between 0 and 1 and use it to choose between the

Error message in vegan ordistep
I am getting the following erro rmessage in ordistep. I have a number of similarly structured datasets using ordistep in a loop, and the message only occurs for some of the datasets.
I cannot include a reproducible sample - the specific datasets where this is occur ing are fairly large and there are several pcnm's in the rhs of the formula.
thanks for any pointers that may allow me to

More scp changes
If you've applied my previous scp patch with the tempfile options and
the erase option, here's a diff that tweaks it a bit more.
Previously I had decided to use getcwd() in a certain local-to-local
special case (that needs to use scp rather than regular cp). This was
because spawing scp via ssh resets the current directory. This patch
choose to forego that in favor of a simpler

R & Java
Hey guys,
I'm a (Java) integration architect.
We are currently stuck with SAS but I'd be happy to switch that to R! (of
course ;-).
Now, a big argument for the latter, is that we can integrate it seamlessly
with all our existing (java) apps.
Therefore: has anyone heard of a java API (like SAS has it's Java API for
enterprise integration) or a Service we can call (e.g. a web service,
