2.9p1 SCO OS 5.0.5 server and Linux client hang on exit when using X11 forwarding and protocol 2
When I run this command:
ssh -1 -v -n -l root njdb1b /usr/bin/X11/xterm -sb -sl 1000 -T njdb1b -e find /etc
An xterm appears on my screen, the contents of /etc scroll by and then ssh exits.
When I invoke the same command with the -2 option, the xterm appears (and disappears) but
ssh never exits. netstat says the (ssh) connection is still established but the xterm

gvim current directory
When I gvim a file from gnome,
gvim's working directory is always my home directory.
That is not what I want.
It is inconvenient for :vi , :r and :w something.else .
Is there a way to automatically cause gvim's current
directory to be the directory of the edited file?
I am aware of workarounds involving the command line.
I am aware of gedit.
I am looking for a way to give gvim the correct

GVIM annoyances
I've just upgraded from my old F9 box to C7, which of course means lots
of changes.? However, the ones are are annoying me most are with VIM.
No matter what I do I can't get? gvim to open in a reasonable size. I
have a dual headed setup (laptop + external) and every time gvim opens
it takes up both screens.
I've tried a few suggestions including the one below without success.?

OpenSSH-portable with md5-passwords
Hiya guyz,
I have a quick question, and wondering if you give me some insight on
this. One of our machine's is running Slackware 7.1 with openssh 1.5.(it
was configured --with-md5-passwords)
Apparently I can't ssh to accounts which the password function hashes
to a field with '$' symbols in it, as reported in /etc/shadow. Is this a
well-known bug of OpenSSH version 1.5?
I would

Upgraded to 2.9p1 with no luck..
Howdy,
After upgrading to 2.9 (OpenSSH_2.9p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL
0x0090600f)
I'm unable to ssh between two systems any more (the two that I've upgraded).
I've recompiled from the original source several times, each time with no
errors,
regenerated host keys, regenerated client keys (using rsa), etc., to no
avail.
Below are some relevant snippets of debugging output

Hi,
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 and vim 7.2.330.
I Use rails.vim and set it auto-start when pwd is rails directory.
vim works find.
However, gvim gives errors.
"Error detected while processing function <SNR>18_menuBufEnter.

And some more error messages related to rails#app.

Problems with gvim 7.4 under CentOS6.5
Compiling vim 7.4 as described by vim works fine, but calling gvim/vim
results in a segmentation fault in CentOS6.5.
Debugging with gdb points to a problem with strncmp().
Even compiling gvim 7.3 does not work.
How to resolve this issue? Would be great if somebody could help.
Thanks

OpenSSH sget/sput suggestion
Not sure if this has ever been suggested before as a feature request, but I
am getting off my lazy a** and sending this Email to your list. Hopefully
you will think it is a wonderful idea.
I am forever using the wonderful OpenSSH on many systems and have done so
for many years. But I often find myself wanting to transfer files while
ssh'ed into another system.
If I could just have a

HPUX: ssh hangs after shell exit
I am aware that there have been several posts related to ssh connections
hanging, i have tried to read through most of them in the archives... I
am posting this in hopes that it may present something new that will
further help resolve this problem.
The problem i am having appears to be similar to what others have
reported where after typing exit in an interactive shell the connection

R and vim (gvim) on ubuntu
Dear all -
I do fret this to be a revealing beginner question - fortunately, this
mailing list have been good to me in the paste .-)
I am looking for a good R editor/environment in ubuntu. To that end, I have
decided to dive into gvim as the modality offered here seems to make sense
for editing.
I want to use Johannes Ranke's vim r-plugin, but I can't make it work.
I have the plugin

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4
to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little
while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client
terminal:
Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon.
However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this.

Compromised
My wife's office server was compromised today. It appears
they ssh'ed in through account pcguest which was set up for
Samba. (I don't remember setting up that account, but maybe I
did.) At any rate, I found a bazillion "ftp_scanner" processes
running. A killall finished them off quickly, I nuked the
pcguest account, and switched ssh to a different port (which

NIS problems after installation
so, i just installed CentOS on our server and set up NIS using the same
configuration as on our other server, but the clients' ypbind services
complain that although they can find the correct server, the server does
not respond to requests.
to debug this, i've:
* pinged the server using its ip and it's name
* ssh'ed to the server using it's ip and name

I think there is a problem is OpenSSH_2.9.9p2. Suppose I have in
/etc/ssh/ssh_config just this and nothing more:
Host *
ForwardX11 yes
and in ~/.ssh/config:

ForwardX11 no
ssh -v tells they are read ok:
