Hi, when trying to install openssh I get the following errors. Any
idea of why?
This is on a mac 10.4.10 system, and with the 4.7p1 version.
Appreciate any tips.
Thanks,
Anil

Keychain Patch Try II
Sorry; here's the message I sent with the Keychain Patch yesterday. I
didn't realize that the list wouldn't extract the text parts of the
message. Enjoy.
Hey all,
Here's the patch to let SSH store passwords in the Mac OS X Keychain.
I don't know whether you guys want to include it or not with the
distribution; some people have said that since Keychain is not an open

Regarding SSH_ASKPASS
I've been giving SSH_ASKPASS a hard look, and it's not clear to
me how it's supposed to work. The documentation (ssh.1) seems
explicit enough:
SSH_ASKPASS
If ssh needs a passphrase, it will read the passphrase from the
current terminal if it was run from a terminal. If ssh does not
have a terminal associated with it but DISPLAY and SSH_ASKPASS
are set, it will execute

I should add that I also have PrintMotd off so that the motd is
printed only once, and yes, I am connecting with the SSH 2 protocol.

Patch for hanging ssh-add under Solaris CDE
One of my users found that the new ssh-add, from the portable OpenSSH CVS
as of October 12, was hanging in his .profile while trying to start up CDE
(Common Desktop Environment) on Solaris 2.6. The previous one, which was
from OpenSSH 2.9p2, did not hang. It turns out that CDE, at least on
Solaris 2.6, 7 and 8, runs the user's .profile with a special startup shell
that allocates a pseudo-tty

[PATCH] PreferAskpass in ssh_config
Moin,
attached is a patch, which adds a new configuration option
"PreferAskpass" to the ssh config.
ssh{,-add,-keygen,-agent} will use ssh-askpass to prompt for passwords, if
this option is set to "yes", and if ssh-askpass is available.
Default for "PreferAskpass" is "no".
Pacth is against current CVS.

New password echoes on Sol8
I tried replacing readpassphrase() for v2.9.9p2 on Sol8 with a different
version that just calls getpassphrase(). It appears to solve the echo
problem when the user tries to login in interactive mode and needs to
change their password.
Can anyone else try this with v2.9.9p2 on Solaris? Be sure to add:
#define HAVE_GETPASSPHRASE
... to config.h when compiling (since it's not a configurable

ssh-add with stdin and read_passphrase
I would like to use ssh-add to unlock a key with a password provided
through a web interface.
It seems even though ssh-add calls read_passphrase with RP_ALLOW_STDIN
at ssh-add.c:173, stdin is not used as a last resort without a valid
terminal or display. Is it an intended behaviour ? And if so, what are
the security implications of using popen() to write the password to
ssh-add (not using echo

[PATCH] Janitor duties
This patch removes a lot of #include from files in openbsd-compat/ since
"includes.h" is included prior to the others and therefore includes the
headers first.
Is it OK, or is it a design decision to have the includes specific to
the c-files in the c-files as well?
There is also the correction of an error. In
openbsd-compat/readpassphrase.c there was
#ifndef HAVE_READPASSPHRASE

two GCC-3.0 warnings
In openssh_cvs/openbsd-compat:
readpassphrase.c: In function `readpassphrase':
readpassphrase.c:116: warning: operation on `ch' may be undefined
The offending line is:
ch = ch &= 0x7f;
probably should be:
ch &= 0x7f;
In openssh-2.9p2:
readpass.c: In function `read_passphrase':

patch to ssh.c for KerberosTgtPassing and readability patches for config files and manpages
Hey All,
Found a very minor problem with client implementation of
KerberosTgtPassing command line flag in ssh.c (first diff). We also
made some readability patches to the config files and manpages to make
the option clearer (the remainder of the diffs).

`_POSIX_VDISABLE' undeclared
Dear developpers,
I'm using OpenSSH_2.9p1 with prngd on my Sony NEWS-OS 4.2.1R.
NEWS-OS 4.x is based on 4.3BSD and lack of many POSIX and ANSI features.
Today I tried to make the latest openssh_cvs and got the following error,
gcc -g -O2 -Wall -O -I. -I.. -I. -I./.. -I/usr/local/ssl/include -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -c readpassphrase.c

AFS/Kerberos authentication problems on IRIX 6.5.15
With a little help, I managed to get ssh to compile. (original post
05.02.02) Now, I can login using an account that is local to the
target machine but logins with AFS accounts fail.
The details:
IRIX 6.5.15
ssh 3.1.p1
gcc 3.0.1
ssl-0.9.6c
zlib-1.1.4.
I am configuring with:
env CC=gcc CFLAGS=-g
LDFLAGS=-Wl,-rpath,/usr/local/krb4/lib,-rpath,/usr/local/ssl/lib
./configure

Password Login Failing... (Not sure this went through)
Appologise if this did make it to the list but I just subscribed and
didn't see it come back...
I am attmepting to install ssh/sshd on my RH6.1 Intel Box. Everything
seems to be working (not quite smooth sailing - I had to resort to
precompiled RPM for OpenSSL). I did however get it "working." I
generated a host key as root and then changed back to joe-user. I created

krb5 problem: KRB5CCNAME is ""; possible fix for OpenSSH 3.0.2p1
I'm using a OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 with the krb5 patch from
<http://www.sxw.org.uk/computing/patches/openssh.html>.
I'm getting KRB5CCNAME set to "" even though
<http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=openssh-unix-dev&m=98269278629018&w=2>
mentions fixing it. This causes things like kinit to
fail with a somewhat uninformative error message.
