Is it really a RTL8139?
Or it is possible that it's a RTL8100?
The reason I ask is because while the RTL8100 is supposed to
be MAC compatible with the RTL8139, I'm finding

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000
laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it
into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized.
I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either...
I thought USB was well established....
I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support
might get my networking going...
I am stuck???

Setting up a simple NAT on CentOS 3.5
Well I think this system is back on 3.5. How do I tell? Have not
used it in a while...
I need a NAT for some quick testing and this box was available. Only
a 6gb drive, so I can't install Astaro (which I have licenses for).
So is there a simple way to turn on NATing? Should I upgrade to 4.2?
This box is behind a firewall, so security risks are not the issue. This time.

DELL SC430 + CentOS 4.0 + SATA HDDs
Dear gurus,
Three DELL SC430s were purchased by my company a few months back and
I've been told that when they spoke with the DELL representatives,
they were informed that these servers were fully RHEL 4.0 compatible.
Specs of the servers:-
- Pentium 4 - 2.8 GHz
- 1 GB RAM
- 2x 250GB SATA HDDs
I tried installing CentOS 4.0 on it but it doesn't seem to be able to
detect any hard

compaq v2000 working with correct boot options and compaq r4000 still SLOWWW
Hi,
I have a v2000 compaq laptop. The realtek network and USB on this
machine was not working. After adding to grub.conf
"acpi=off apci=off noacpi noapic"
the v2000 realtek started working and the USB worked fine... Fantastic!
So I thought I would try those same options on my r4000 laptop.
they had no effect.... This AMD turion 64 4000+ rating laptop is still
running SLOWWW...

defining set of variables in a formula
Dear fellow R users,
I am trying to conduct a regression analysis. I have thousands of
variables. The names are V1, V2,........V2000
Is there an easy way to include these variables in the regression?
my model is something like that:
model<- lm(y~V1+V2+.....+V2000, data=data)
Thanks so much in advance,
Ozlem

how to correctly turn off apic at boot
I have tried in the grub.conf file
noapic
and
apic=off
I am still getting the same error message about ACPI
in the dmesg output.
example:
ACPI: PCI interupt .... IRQ 16
eth0: RealTek RTL8139 ... IRQ16
eth0: identified 8139 chip type
so ACPI is grabbing IRQ 16 and not letting eth0 have it. (I Think).
How do I correctly disable it on my compaq v2000 laptop.
I think it is not allowing my usb

Boxplot Labels OK
Dear all,
I have just sent an enquiry but probably I hadn’t expressed myself properly.
Could anyone help me with the following?
When I run the code on my data I get a boxplot with outliers identified by numbers 200 & 201.
However, what I would like is to label these outliers with their corresponding “DATA$num” values of the data frame.
In this example, the outliers should be labelled as:

RHEL Un question
Please excuse my ignorance, since I have not used any RedHat
(enterprise or otherwise) until Fedora FC3 (a few weeks) and now
CentOS4 (permanently). I keep finding references to Un (I believe it's
up to U5 now) in references to bugfixes, etc for RHEL. I presume (?)
these are dot releases after the initial release?
Is there anything equivalent for CentOS, or is this RedHat only behavior?
TIA,

Anova unbalanced
Hello everybody,
I have got a data set with about 400 companies. Each company has a
score for its enviroment comportment between 0 and 100. These companies
belong to about 15 different countries. I have e.g. 70 companies from
UK and 5 from Luxembourg,- so the data set is pretty unbalanced and I
want to do an ANOVA. Somthing like aov(enviromentscore~country). But the
aov function is just for

Calculating std errors of marginal effects in interactions
Hi! I've been looking for a way to calculate std errors of marginal effects
when I use interaction terms, but with no success. I pretty much have two
cases: continuous variable * continuous variable, and continuous variable *
binary variable. In both cases, I know how to calculate the marginal
effects, even with simulation.
But I still can't figure out how to calculate the std errors of

XCP jumbo frames in vm
Hello all,
Not sure if I am completely missing something but here goes. I have
XCP 1.0 running without any issues. I have the mtu set on both the
storage network, the corresponding PIF, and the VIF to 9000 and when
displayed in ifconfig it shows that this is indeed true. I have
several CentOs 5.6 VMs running in HVM mode (i.e. no xen kernel) which
attach to the the storage network through these

warnings in ARMA with other regressor variables
Hi all,
I want to fit the following model to my data:
Y_t= a+bY_(t-1)+cY_(t-2) + Z_t +Z_(t-1) + Z_(t-2) + X_t + M_t
i.e. it is an ARMA(2,2) with some additional regressors X and M.
[Z_t's are the white noise variables]
So, I run the following code:
for (i in 1:rep) { index=sample(4,15,replace=T)
final<-do.call(rbind,lapply(index,function(i)

ARMA with other regressor variables
Hi,
I want to fit the following model to my data:
Y_t= a+bY_(t-1)+cY_(t-2) + Z_t +Z_(t-1) + Z_(t-2) + X_t + M_t
i.e. it is an ARMA(2,2) with some additional regressors X and M.

How do I find the estimates of the coefficients in R?
And also I would like to know what technique R employs to find the
estimates?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
