building OpenSSH-3.1p1 w/OpenSSL-0.9.6d
Has anyone tried to build 3.1p1 on Solaris with the new openssl-0.9.6d? I
am having trouble building; here is my setup: GNU ld, GNU make and my
config options are as follows:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/stow/openssh-3.1p1 \
--sysconfdir=/usr/local/etc --with-md5-passwords --disable-suid-ssh \
--with-ssl-dir=/usr/local/ssl
Here is the error is fails on:

OpenSSH and Solaris groups
I have an odd problem and I was wondering if anyone has ever run into this
before. I have a machine running solaris 8, OpenSSH 3.1p1 and OpenSSL
0.9.6c and it has been working fine for quite some time (ssh that is).
Today, /etc/system was updated to increase the maximum number of groups
from 16 to 32. After the system was rebooted, things seemed to be working
as expected, however one of our

scp 3.1p1 problem on Solaris
I have removed ANDIrand from my Solaris8 system and installed patch
112438-01 which provides native /dev/random and /dev/urandom devices.
Recompiled both openssl-0.9.6c and openssh-3.1p1, restarted sshd.
Now I seem unable to use scp, and connections to the local sshd appear
to be very slow.

getting OpenSSH/OpenSSL to utilize /dev/random
I've installed Sun's SUNWski package on Solaris 8 (32-bit) that provides a
/dev/random interface. It appears to as cat'ing it gives me a bunch of
well, random data.
However, when I ran my configure, it gives me the WARNING.RND message to the
effect that I'm using the built-in. I've seen allusions on this list to
building openssl with to get random support, so I rebuilt it

scp and Solaris ACLs
Has anyone had a problem with scp not retaining ACLs set on the original
file under Solaris 8? When I have a file that has ACLs set and I use scp
or rsync -e ssh to copy the file (local->local or local->remote) the ACLs
are gone from the copied file(s). Is this a known issue or am I just
missing something (a flag for instance) when performing the copy? Thanks
in advance for your help.

SCP file corruptions
Hi,
I apparently was asleep at the wheel using scp, and accidentally copied a
file onto itself. Scp generated an Input/Output error and did not perform
the copy. However, now the file is corrupt. Is this a but? Is there anyway
to fix the file I messed up?
Thanks,

SUNWski
Has anyone had success with getting /dev/random to work
after installing SUNWski? After I install the pkg and start /etc/
init.d/cryptorand, the /dev/random file remains 0 bytes.
I am running Solaris 2.8

Problems with ./config on Mac OS X
My apologies for sending this to such a generic list.
My ultimate goal is to compile Kerberos-aware ssh and scp on my Mac running
OS X 10.1.3. To that end, I downloaded openssh-3.1p1. Following the
instructions, I also downloaded and installed openssl-0.9.6c. I did a
% make; make install
for that. It seems to be happy. However, when I run ./config, I get this
error:

Compiling OPENssh to use random package
Hello,
I have attempted several times to compile openssh3.1p1 that will use a
random package called ANDIrand. How can I compile and get ssh to use this
random number generator? I have tried the --rand-helper switch with my
configure and still it does not work. I am compiling in Solaris 8, and need
to then create a package that can be used on Solaris 6, Solaris 7, and
Solaris 8.
Thanks,
Eric

Problem with ssh-keygen
Dear Developer,
I'm having problem running ssh_keygen on my solaris 7 box. Can you
please tell me as to why I'm getting this error as described below? I
don't have that problem with solaris 8 that runs SMCossh 3.0.2p1
Thanks in advance.

Allowed punctuation in samba filenames?
hi
I've run into problems moving stuff from one ext3 filesystem to another
via samba. It seems the problem is due to some punctuation not being
allowed in paths/filenames.
Can anyone tell me where I can find a definitive list of allowed /
illegal characters?
Thanks in advance

/etc/urandom and Solaris
I feel very silly asking this, because I saw the answer to this question one
time and can't remember what it was. OpenSSH uses /dev/urandom or /dev/random
which Solaris does not have (verified with a call to the Sun software folks).
How do I make OpenSSH happy with a Solaris substitute for /etc/urandom?
Thanks

problems using samba as PDC
Hi list,
We are in the process of replacing our current Windows 2k file server with a
Debian Linux one running Samba.
I am running Samba 2.999+3.0.Alpha21 which is packaged for Debian in the
Unstable tree.
I believe I have configured everything correctly however when I login from a
Windows client it is creating the users profile under there home directory
rather than in the profile directory

/dev/random is on your Solaris CD
There was some discussion recently about the Solaris /dev/random
support that can be downloaded from Sun's patch archive as part of
a patch to the Sun Web Server 1.0 product. The SUNWski package
is the interesting bit that purports to provide /dev/random.
It was noted that domestic and international versions of the patch
existed and that only the international (no encryption) version

I'm having a problem with ssh-keygen on Solaris 8; upon running, it

Two patches for OpenSSH 3.1p1 (fwd)
Can I get people from other platforms to test the waitpid.patch to see
if it solves hang-on-exit on their platform?
I can confirm Solaris at this moment (but I've not done heavy testing at
this moment) that is works like a charm (Solaris 7). It handles 'sleep
90&' vs 'nohup sleep 90&' correctly (killed, vs left).
thanks.

openssh-3.1p1 on GNU/Hurd
Hi,
I've gone and ported the latest version of openssh, 3.1p1, to GNU/Hurd.
I've tried to learn from the other threads on this topic, but I still had
to get rid of MAXHOSTNAMELEN where I could.
