Adaptec 2230SLP not detected
[I originally sent this using the wrong email address - apologies if it
appears twice]
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone tried installing CentOS 4 x86_64 on a machine with an Adaptec
2230SLP card? I've just tried it, and Anaconda could not detect the
card.
I've manually loaded the aacraid driver, which then starts the install
process. But, when the install gets to disk partitioning, the

Toshiba DK-40 and Asterisk...possible?
Hi all,
I have a potential client interested in an Asterisk PBX, which will
allow them to improve their virtual office services, among other things
(it's a Business Centre).
They currently have a Toshiba DK-40 and 19 DKT 2010-SD phones. The
owner has told me that the phones are digital (not in the VoIP sense,
obviously).
Is anyone here familiar with this particular PBX? Any chance that it

Evolution forgetting read mail
Hi all,
Has anyone seen Evolution "forget" which emails have been read in CentOS
4?
I have a client that's reported he's reading his email, closes
Evolution, and when he starts it again, the messages are marked as
unread.
I found bug reports about this here:

Dovecot and IPA
Hi Ranbir
I've worked with freeIPA a little, but without your doveconf or some other
context information, it is difficult to identify the issue.

Kind of off-topic: VoIP services and multiple callers
Hello Everyone,
I've been running Asterisk as our PBX for several months now, and
recently I've been thinking about using one of the VoIP providers to
lower our phone bill.
I know that VoIP providers can supply their customers with a local
number and/or virtual numbers, and then that number/account can be used
with Asterisk (well, it depends on the provider and whether or not their

Building bacula RPM from Karanbir's repo
Hi all,
Has anyone tried to rebuild bacula from the source RPM provided on
Karanbir's CentOS yum repo? Every time I give it a go, I'm given this
error during the configure stage:

kvm in Centos 5.3
Hi All,
Is KVM support in CentOS 5.3 complete? That is, can a CentOS 5.3 system
host KVM VMs or does CentOS 5.3 only support being virtualized via KVM?
I ask because I installed KVM on a CentOS 5.3 host, but I can't find a
kvm module anywhere in /lib/modules/* (let alone the running kernel).
Regards,
Ranbir

gdm-restart/gdm-safe-restart
Hi all,
On a CentOS 4.2, x86_64 system, I created a new session that is
selectable from the sessions list in GDM. To make GDM see the changes,
I ran the following:
gdm-safe-restart
That's supposed to make GDM re-read it's config files. Well, it worked,
but instead of staying on vt7, GDM moved to vt9. At first it looked
liked GDM had died, but I ran ps aux|grep gdm, and found it

CUPS and Okidata ML 395
Hi All,
Has anyone currently, or in the past, setup an Okidata ML 395 (or any of
Okidata's impact printers, for that matter) on a CentOS box? I'm having
a miserable time with the ML 395: I'm looking for some tips.
I have an AMD Opteron server running CentOS 4 (x86_64). CUPS is running
happily for two Canon imageRunner's (via BrightQ Pro from Codehost).
The Okidata ML 395 is

Question about VoIP providers
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know of any Canadian VoIP providers that offer all of the
following:
1. DIDs in Canada, U.S., and Europe
2. BYOD (i.e. connect to Asterisk directly)
3. Setting of CallerID for outgoing calls
4. Multiple concurrent calls per account (or some other method to
accommodate many concurrent outgoing calls)
I've checked out the Wiki and there doesn't appear to be any

Oracle java RPM
Hi Everyone,
Years ago the recommended way to install Sun's java was to install from
the tar.gz file because the RPM they supplied did some bad things
(clobbered other files or something...can't remember the details). Is
this still the case with Oracle's java RPM, or is it now safe to
install?

Dovecot and IPA
Hello,
I'm trying to get Dovecot to use GSSAPI for authentication. I have an
IPA server on CentOS 7 with a bunch of my servers attached to the IPA
domain, including the server running Dovecot.
I've followed official documentation from Red Hat and read numerous wiki
articles on how to configure Dovecot to get it to use GSSAPI correctly.
I don't think I've done anything

Xen on CentOS 4.3
Hello,
Has anyone set up Xen on an existing CentOS 4.3 system? Does it work
well, or is it better to wipe the system and start clean? I haven't
found a lot of information about this specifically.
Secondly, I have found on the xen source website downloads for xen 3.02,
which are meant for FC4 or RHEL (U1). I'm tempted to try the RHEL
downloads, but I don't have any spare machines

[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List,
I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to
hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc.
I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow
that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot
swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage,
and

Postfix won't relay after update to CentOS 4.4
Hi Everyone,
My CentOS 4.4 mail server is having problems sending mail after updating
it to 4.4 Before the update, I did not have any problems.
My ISP requires that email clients must authenticate to their mail
servers before mail can be sent out. I setup smtp auth to get postfix
to relay mail through the ISP's mail servers. Here's my config:

CentOS 6 x86_64 DVD doesn't boot
Hi Everyone,
I downloaded the CentOS 6 x86_64 DVD ISOs and burned the first image to
a rewritable DVD. When I tried to boot my new home server off it, it
didn't, and then this was printed to the screen:
ETCDisolinux: Found something at drive = EF

The same disc works fine in my 4 year old HP laptop, and when installing
CentOS 6 as a KVM.

CentOS 4.4 not seeing all RAM

why.
I have a CentOS 4.4 x86_64 server running on a Tyan s2895 with 6 GB of
RAM (two 1 GB sticks and 2 2 GB sticks). I upgraded the RAM, powered up
the server, and when CentOS was finished booting, checked the available
RAM with free. This is what it's reporting:

Evolution bug in CentOS 4.3
Hi Everyone,
A client has an email in Evolution with an attachment:
CNH_Specialized_Bid_Letter_Web_Ex_#1.doc
When the file is opened directly from Evolution, OOo Writer complains:

But, the user's Evolution temp cache has a copy of the file:

RAID: by host or within KVM?
Hi Virtualizers,
I just setup a CentOS 6 box (at home) to run as a KVM host. It's replacing
an absolutely ancient CentOS 5 server that's running Xen. I have one OS
drive, and two drives in RAID 1 with LVM on top which is being used as the
KVM storage pool.
I created a KVM that will run OpenMediaVault (OMV). OMV requires an OS
drive (which is really a LVM), and a separate drive(s) to
