Nbfw, Cross-subnet browsing
Hi, I'm currently using the nbfw (netbios forwarder - http://nbfw.sourceforge.net/) patch with samba on a linux masquerading firewall/router. It works pretty well. I was wondering if there was plan to include this patch in samba (or TNG) I was also wondering if there was any way to use this as a mean to do cross-subnet browsing efficient. The paradox is that browsing works better between a

Plan9 on xen
I went through the instructions on the Bell Labs wiki (http://www.cs.bell-labs.com/wiki/plan9/Installing_in_Xen/index.html), and am literally at the last step of the process, where I can create a new plan9 domain via xm. However, I get the following: $ xm create plan9 -c Using config file "/etc/xen/plan9". Started domain plan9, console on port 999 ************ REMOTE CONSOLE: CTRL-] TO

[LLVMdev] LLVM porting Plan9 (probably stupid question)
I am not sure whether this would work or if there are other limitations that would block this very simplistic porting strategy to work. Since it looks so easy on paper, I expect it to be more complicated otherwise it would probably already have been done. According to the LLVM FAQ the important dependencies for LLVM are a unix-type shell and sed [1], but those dependencies are provided by APE

SSH hang fix??
It is nice to see that the development of openssh suddenly seems to have a boost of activity. However I am fairly dissapointed to see that nobody is actually trying to fix the ssh hanging problem which I am mainly seeing on Solaris and AIX in conjunction with rsync. Has anybody from the development team got an ETA of the official fix for this problem? Regards Hubba

behaviour of ssh/scp over flakey links - timeout/retry?
I'm using OpenSSH's ssh and scp to back up some remote machines, roughly as follows : ssh remote-host "tar up a few dirs" scp remote-host:tarfile local-repository On the whole, as I'd expect, this works just fine. But .. sometimes the link is a bit dodgey (for lack of a more explicit term, this being a polite list :) ) Can anyone tell me how ssh and scp timeout and retry,

making R print on screen
Hello! I am running a "for" loop. In the loop I am producing some intermediary results and asking R to print it (of the type below). However, I noticed - when the task is complicated and takes a lot of time, R does not print those intermediary results immediately, but prints them in batches - or does not print at all until we are done with the whole calculation. Is there any way to

-c none option
We are using openssh with backup software to transport data back and force between clients and backup server. Common sense and some testing suggest that the data transfer rate is significantly slower when the ssh native encryption is used. For the backup applications it's probably OK to use ssh without encryption. Unfortunately, it looks like the recent versions including 3.0.2p1 do not

Extensions for long fat networks?
Before I get too far in my attempts... Has anyone already implemented support in scp for larger buffers/windows that would take advantage of wscaled TCP windows? Paul Hyder NOAA Forecast Systems Lab Boulder, CO FYI: Linux 2.4.20, 30-80ms RTT, data rates 100-1000Mbps, and a need to fill TCP windows of 2-8MBytes. (Existing limits appear to be about 256KB.)

(summarized) wishlist :-)
Hello All (and Timo in particular :-) -- While reading through some of the conversations on this list over the past two weeks or so, I always thought "how would <this> particular problem affect you and how would you address it in your environment?". This results in a few suggestions, or "thing to wish for", which I thought others may find useful, hence I'm posting

no BkSp in plan9, ubuntu root fs failure, and what''s up with bsd?
In usual fashion, I have a few questions: 1) I can''t get the virtual terminal of plan9 to recognize either my Backspace or Delete key. This is particularly annoying; can anyone help? 2) I''ve got two linux root fs images that I created through dd: one for rubix and another for ubuntu. Rubix works brilliantly, but Ubuntu gets a kernel panic during boot. The two both mount have

smbmount problem
Hello. I hope that this is the proper place to ask this. Here is my problem. I have several smbmounts under Red Hat Linux 5.1. They need to be accessed by my apache web server. One of the mounts keeps getting disconnected, but this is not noticed by Linux. So the Linux box thinks that the files under the smbmount are still accessable when they aren't actually mounted. What would be the best
