pam session as root
Beyond any more general questions of whether pam sessions *should* be run as root, is there an immediate security concern with moving the pam_open_session (and pam_setcred) stuff to the parent (root) process? [PATCH] tcp-wrappers support extended to x11 forwards
Hi! Here is the patch to support tcp wrappers with x11-forwarded connections. The patch is for openssh-3.0.1p1 but it works fine with 2.9.9p2 too. I've understood that this will not be included in the official version because it adds complexity (?!) to openssh. Binding the forwarded port to localhost doesn't solve all problems. I've understood that you should also implement

Pinging a netbios name
Does know anybody a small, little, beatiful (and cheap) software replacement of PING utility for pingins machines with netbios name and with ip number and without DNS entry? Smbclient and nmblookup work fine, but I thinking in a utilitity like PING of windows95. This ping is capable to work in WINS (NETBIOS) and ip and name translation. The ping of linux dont work in this way. Samba work fine.

Status of SCP vulnerability
I worked on a proposal like this a few years back (including proof of concept code).? I taught sftp to have an scp personality (closer to scp2 than scp), and it was rejected by the higher ups.? It may have been the dual-personality issue, but I know the scp2 concept was also rejected at the time as it was stated there should be one transfer tool. But the only way to drag scp into this century

tcp wrappers Question..

It is rare for systems to support RFC 931 and common for firewalls to drop requests (creating long delays in connections), so user name lookup is probably only useful within a private network of systems that you control, on which

libwrap-ing IMAP and POP logins
Since I've been using this for maybe a year now, maybe someone else is interested in restricting IMAP and POP logins via libwrap. In addition to the attached patch (against 1.0.5) to src/login-common/main.c, src/{imap,pop3}-login/Makefile.in have to be modified to link against libwrap. Of course, the option needs to be integrated into configure in the long run. -------------- next part

[PATCH]: Add tcp_wrappers protection to port forwarding
Hi, attached is a patch by Chris Faylor <cgf at cygnus.com> relative to 2.2.0p1. Description: OpenSSH does not allow port gatewaying by default. This means that only the local host can access forwarded ports. Adding "GatewayPorts yes" to .ssh/config usually does this job. Unfortunately, OpenSSH does not recognize the same hosts.allow/ hosts.deny options as ssh.com's sshd

tcp wrappers Question..
hey folks, I keep seeing this on the internet "The user name lookup feature of TCP Wrappers uses identd to identify the username of the remote host. By default, this feature is disabled, as identd may appear hung when there are a large number of TCP connections." but I cant seem to find out how/where to enable said feature. Jason

I need IMAP stress testing tool with SEARCH command
Hi. Does anyone know of a good imap stress testing tool? And one which supports SEARCH commands? I have to compare Courier and Dovecot. I already did some tests using a modified postal/rabid package. I would be thankfully for any hints. Best regards. Erny Yaco Sistemas Spain

Failure message of configure from openssh 2.3.0p1 is wrong.
Hi, if i add --with-tcp-wrappers and --with-skey and don't have an skey-library installed configure will fail with a message telling me that I don't have libwrap installed. But after looking into config.log I see the following: |configure:6344: checking for libwrap |configure:6356: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -Wall -I. -I. conftest.c -ldl -lnsl -lz | -lutil -lpam -lcrypto -lskey -lwrap

configure.in reorder patch
Feb 12 CVS (sort of, see warning below) I've had to change around some of the code in configure.in to get some platforms to compile with the --with-tcp-wrappers option. Basicly I have set it up to check headers check system libraries check for optional packages check functions I have also tried to clean up the library order as it is important on some platforms. This patch works on Solaris

make install fails if configured --with-tcp-wrappers
Hello, I tried building OpenSSH-2.9p1 on AIX 4.3.3(ML6) with gcc. I included the --with-tcp-wrappers flag in configure. Configure went just fine, make went just fine, but 'make install' failed with the following error: exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program ./ssh-keygen because of the following errors: 0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for /usr/local/lib/libwrap.a(libwrap.so)

with-tcp-wrappers enable ?
Hello, I try to compile openssh-2.9p1 on a SGI Origin 200 computer under IRIX 6.5 with the option --with-tcp-wrappers enable. I have also compiled tcp-wrapper and have installed the library libwrap.a in /usr/lib and the file tcpd.h in /usr/include. When i run the ./configure script i have a error. The script asked me that the libwrap is missing. How can i resolve this ? Thanks. Bests Regards
