OpenSSH on HP-UX 11 with TCB
Hi, an updated and more civilized post (to my one and only previous one) on getting OpenSSH to work on HP-UX 11 using the TCB. I used the HP ANSI C compiler. Firstly, I needed to download, compile and install OpenSSL, EGD and ZLib. Specific issues: configure did not handle hpux 11 login.c did not compile makefile did not use $(CFLAGS) sshd did not compile (pam issues), I wanted to use

SCO Openserver Patch
I downloaded the Openssh-2.3.0p1 file and ran configure only to have it fail reporting the lack of libz. I found that configure was failing beacuse the test program did not include the libtinfo and libm which are needed to resolve references in libprot. I made changes to the configure script to add those libraries for SCO Openserver and then tried to compile the programs only to run into another

greater than 8 character passwords on SCO OSR6
I read the exchange regarding > 8 char passwords on Unixware from the end of June. Is anything being done to add support for >8 character passwords on SCO OSR6 (in udk mode)? I have it working by calling osr5bigcrypt(), instead of bigcrypt(), in openbsd-compat/xcrypt.c and linking with -lcrypt. libcrypt has bigcrypt(), but for whatever reason, openssh built with it fails to authenticate

patch: disable credential forwarding after password auth.
Dear list, since the order of authentication and AFS token/KRB TGT forwarding changed (around 3.0), we have had problems with users accidentally overwriting their credentials from a "password" login with forwarded credentials. E.g. user A logs in as user B, but stays with the AFS permissions of user A. A workaround is to use "-k" on these sessions, but "it worked without

Bigcrypt password patch
Hi, we are currently in the progress of switching an HPUX mailserver to linux and dovecot. The only issue so far is, that HPUX has bigcrypt for passwords > 8 chars. Bigcrypt uses standard libc crypt for every block of 8 chars. The linux pam modules have a bigcrypt.c file which can be used for dovecot as well to authenticate crypt and bigcrypt passwords. I have used the pam bigcrypt.c code

Timing attacks and owl-always-auth
Hi All. Attached is a patch against OpenBSD, based in part on the owl-always-auth patch. The idea is that the only way out of auth_passwd for the failure case is the "return 0" at the bottom. I don't know if this is a good way to do it or not, it's presented for discussion. Also, I don't think 3.6.1p2 is quite right WRT these timing issues (eg, you get a fast failure

to_model
There''s a number of calls in the Rails source to convert_to_model, which takes an activerecord object instance: convert_to_model(object) Here''s the thing. All convert_to_model does is calls to_model, which returns self (the ActiveModel instance). Am I missing something here? Why call a method that returns the same thing? @user => #<User id: 3, name:

Help with Access Control
Hi, I am following the excellent tutorial http://www.railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14216 (post 5) on how to implement an access control feature i.e. only a friend is allowed to view a profile of a particular member. I am not using the restful authentication plugin as the author is using to implement the authentication feature (post 1) in the tutorial. All I am interested in is the post 5

greater than 8 character passwords on Unixware (IA database support)
I made some quick changes to support the IA security thing in Uniware 7.1.1. I wish I understood all of this well enough to make a proper patch to include new defines and what not. I tried and made a mess. Hopefully I can get a better grasp this weekend. The only files I changed were xcrypt.c and Makefile. Makefile needed -lcrypt and -liaf added to LIBS=. It had -lcrypto but needed -lcrypt for

Hi! I have just added login feature to my rails application (followed the instruction from (Agile Web Development with Rails) but now I am getting strange errors (looks to me like some kind of routing problem) under the passenger/apache. The error is: 500 Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. From the log:

Portable openssh-2.5.1p1, auth-passwd.c, yellow pages, expire field
Hi, I'm having trouble with auth_password() failing on my linux box using yellow pages. I've tracked the problem down to the following: pw_password = "RMf.YivanoZc2,o01N" encrypted_password = "RMf.YivanoZc2" This fails on the return(strcmp(encrypted_password, pw_password) == 0). because crypt() only returns 13 characters. I seem to remember the

3.6p1 bug on SCO OpenServer
SCO OpenServer 5.0.x Openssh 3.6p1 loginrec.c writes incorrect data into the ut_id field of the utmp file. This has been an issue since at least openssh 3.0.2 but I never bothered to report it. For Openssh 3.6p1, defining WITH_ABBREV_NO_TTY corrects the problem. Below is a brief patch to configure which does this. You can observe the errant results in the "Line" column from the

How to hook into model attribute changes?
Hi, What''s the best way to hook into any changes made to the value of a single model attribute? I need to know when the encrypted_password attribute on my User model changes i.e. when the user has changed their password. I''m not interested in the actual changed value, I just need to know when it''s been changed so that I can regenerate their API key as well. Thanks in
