static link
hi,
i have downloaded the linux-version of openssh-3.0.2p1. i wanted
to compile it statically with the following configure-statement:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/opt/openssh-3.0.2p1 --with-pam
--with-md5-passwords --with-v4-default --with-ldflags=-static
--with-ssl-dir=/usr/local/opt/openssl
It worked for the older 2.9 version, but now i get the following error:
gcc -o ssh ssh.o

multiple definition of `optind'
Any ideas of the best way around this problem? Should I just hack the
source code, or is there a magic switch somewhere I'm missing? I'm
assuming I can't just dismiss that function as OpenSSH is probably
based on the OpenBSD semantics.

I've having trouble downloading and compiling Xapian 1.0.19 on OSX 10.5.8.

tftp-hpa: getopt problems
Hi!
I hope this is the right list for sending tftpd-patches - if not, please point
me in the right direction...
I experienced quite strange problems when trying to use tftp-hpa in newer
Cygwin versions. It simply isn't able to parse its command line correctly
because it seems to use another optind variable than getopt().
When you try to start it with something like
tftpd.exe -s /mypath

Linux in-kernel keys support
Hi all,
I recently made a patch to openssh 4.1p1 to allow it to use the
in-kernel key management provided by 2.6.12 or later Linux kernels.
I've attached the patch (which is still only a proof-of-concept, for
instance its very verbose right now) to this mail.
Now, my question is, is this a completely insane idea and would (a later
version of) the patch have a chance of making it into the

[PATCH] No extern declarations of optarg & co if getopt.h is available
Hi,
I have a problem with the extern declarations of optarg, optind, etc.
We're currently moving getopt from being a statically linked function
to a dynamically linked function as part of the Cygwin DLL. On Windows,
this requires to generate special symbols (__imp__optarg, etc.), which
is done by marking the exported variables in the corresponding header.
Instead of
extern char *optarg;

static compilation
Hi,
I'm currently running linux mandrake 8.0 and a redhat 7.1. I tried to
compiled openssh 3.0 static without any succes, an error seems to appear in
ssh.c, optreset declaration. Openssh 2.9 compiled statically without any
problems: LDFLAGS=-static, CFLAGS=-static worked fine. Currently im no more
able to compile it statically, the main error seems due to openbsd-compat..
Of course if I

[PATCH] utils add minimal mv
mv is needed these days in initramfs.
One needs to move all the data of initramfs /run to the real rootfs.
This minimal mv utiliy originates from the existing ln.

asterisk.ctl limitations
Hi
I wrote a small patch to netcat to work with unix domain sockets to
enable me to communicate with an asterisk daemon through the
unix-domain socket /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl .
Only then I noticed that reading the code is done very differently than
a typical network protocol: it expects every command in a separate read.
Basically I used the following filter to pipe commands from the
