Strange behavior from OO Writer
I just had the strangest experience I can remember since I ran Windowsas my base OS.... Yesterday I was editing a file in the OO Writer (word processor). Today, it will not open. I copied it to a new file, and it opened fine. I edited it, updated it and closed it. Then I tried deleting the original file and copying the new one to the old name. Won't open. Renamed again, and it opens

R.oo package, inherit two classes
Hello, How do I inherit two classes using the R.oo package. Below is kind of a silly example, but I am trying to create class PerDog from classes Dog and Person. Error at bottom. I've tried a few other ways of using extend(), but nothing seems to get me what I want. Example: setConstructorS3("Person", function(age=NA) { this = extend(Object(), "Person", .age=age )

R.oo package: do setMethodS3 work upon construction
Hello (Heinrich), I did not know I could do this. It doesn't seem to be documented anywhere. Thought this would be helpful to the fraction of the community using package R.oo. Note the call of a setMethodS3 method, xOne, in the setConstructorS3. This is extremely useful if xOne (in this case) is a very complex method (that you always want to be called every time you create a new object). If I

OO programming & S3/S4 paradigm - General question
Hi, Being relatively new to OO programming and not so old on R, I noticed the possibility to do OO programming in R. But it seems there is two "paradigms" S3 that seems the old one but is the one used in the R.oo package and S4 which seems more recent As a starting point, which one is best to use? Is R.oo useful? what are the main difference between the two? Any feedback

[OT] Oo-calc & StAtistics
The thread "R licensing query" currently running has raised the classic critcisms of using Excel for statistics. I was wondering: Has anyone applied the same or similar set of tests to OpenOffice "calc"? Or would the Executive Summary be: "Calc is just like Excel"? (Not that I'm a spreadsheet user, if I can avoid it; but I sometimes get asked about such

[v2v PATCH 1/2] rhv-upload: Validate UUIDs passed to -oo rhv-disk-uuid (RHBZ#1789279)
The validation helps us fail early and with a sensible error message. The NIL UUID is not valid for oVirt, but other than that there is no other logic in there merely because the UUID types are a matter of the generator and they are just forwarded in this partucular case. Desktop apps, OO and Scribus
I just came across a user who tried to view a Word document on a CentOS5 machine, and it seems that desktop, firefox etc. are trying to view it with Scribus instead of OpenOffice. This needs to change. Is there a system-wide setting for it? On the older, RHEL3 systems we used to have mozplugger, but it's not available in the standard CentOS repositories or rpmforge. What are we

Question about R.oo package
Dear R.oo package users, while testing some functionality of the R.oo, I found that during the first construction of a object from a class, the constructor is twice called, but only one object is finalized. In all subsequent creation processes, the constructor is (expectedly) called once. Here some example code: library(R.oo) setConstructorS3("Test_class",function(val) {

Call super methods from inherited classes R.oo
Hi R-community, I'm very busy with a software project which I would like to development completely with R.oo. Many of the object oriented aspects that I already know from Java development seems to be in place with this library. But...there is something that I'm really missing... *the super method call* Just a little example that shall demonstrate what I mean: Image we have the following

R.oo modify an object inside another classes method
Can someone show me how to modify one (R.oo) class's object inside another (R.oo) class's method? Is that possible with the R.oo package? A quick example or reference to an example would be outstanding... Thanks, Ben [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R.oo inheritance with pass by reference
I thought I would post an example of using R.oo with inheritance and pass by reference for future searches. With PerMore I am inheriting Person. Then I am changing an object data memeber of an object of PerMore class using pass by reference ('mimiced' by R.oo) in an object of AgeMultiplier. I change a data member in the child class and the parent class for demonstration purposes. This is

OO code organization
Greetings,   I am using S4 classes and the code is organized by putting each class into a separate source file in a separate folder:   In Folder base/base.R:    defines class "base" and does   setGeneric("showSelf",     function(this) standardGeneric("showSelf") ) setMethod("showSelf", signature(this="base"), definition= function(this){ ... } )
