PAM problem - sshd segfault on Solaris
I'm using OpenSSH-2.9.9p2 on Solaris 8 sparc64. 2.9p2 worked fine, but
2.9.9p2+ is giving me trouble with one thing - sshd segfaults if I try to
connect and execute a command, such as "ssh machine ls". Otherwise it
works great. sshd will fork, and the child process segfaults.
CVS snapshot does the same thing.
I've narrowed this down somewhat. It will only happen if you use

socks and misc patch to 2.9.9p2
Attached is a very small patch that allows the ssh clients to use the
socks5 library. It should work with socks4 but is untested.
Tested on linux only

configure --with-socks5
Also included is a configure option to disable scp statistics
--disable-scp-stats

Patch for SSH-tunneling via HTTPS-proxy
Hi List,
I have a szenario where I need to reach a host on the internet from a
"firewalled" network but there is a HTTPS-proxy runnnig. As some
people know you can tunnel all TCP-connections through this proxy
because it can't decide if someone is really doing SSL or just Telnet
to port 443 (or use SSH in our case).
So I've written a patch for ssh to make it send the

[PATCH] fix for Linux hang on exit bug in 2.9.9p2
As you are now probably aware, the portability team for openssh still
has not fixed the hang-on-exit bug in the 2.9.9p2 release.
Attached is a patch for 2.9.9p2 that fixes the hang-on-exit bug for Linux
systems. It also adds a useful exit delay feature that has also not yet been
incorporated into the main sources.

Using -lssh as shared library
Hello! This is my first post to this list... ;)
I'm not shure if someone will be interested in this topic.
For me, it has interest, as long as I maintain 100+ unix
(linux) servers with dialup access and every package update
cost some significant time to download, so package size is
somewhat important here.
I looked to openssh and realized that package consists of
several programs, all uses

[patch] option to prevent connection timeout
Hi,
The firewall at work doesn't allow me to make a direct SSH connection
to the Internet, so I use the ProxyCommand to tunnel SSH through a
HTTP proxy. This works fine, except for the fact that the HTTP proxy
server closes the connection after 60 seconds of inactivity. Attached
below is a patch that implements a new configuration option called
"Idle" that lets you specify the

local IP in environment
I'm not sure if this is useful to anyone, but I made a small patch to
include the local IP address that the user connected to in the environment
(the opposite of SSH_CLIENT). The variable is called SSH_LOCAL.

Pending OpenSSH release, call for testing.
Hi All.
OpenSSH is getting ready for a release soon, so we are asking for all
interested parties to test a snapshot.
Changes include:
* sshd will now re-exec itself for each new connection (the "-e" option
is required when running sshd in debug mode).
* PAM password authentication has been (re)added.
* Interface improvements to sftp(1)
* Many bug fixes and improvements, for

program-prefix does not work
the configure option --program-prefix does not work although it is
listed in teh configure --help output.
The attached patch fixes these issues:
1) program prefix is not substituted in configure
2) program prefix is not present in Makefile
3) scp requires use of a known "scp" program

openssh-2.9.9p2 and kerberos 5
> does anyone know if openssh 2.9.9p2 works

There is code in 2.9.9p2 to do Kerberos v5 over the version 1 protocol.
This code doesn't compile by default on the portable version, and is Heimdal
specific.
I've got a set of patches (now completed, and being tested locally) which
add a --with-kerberos5 option to ./configure to set this up for

AFS and tokenforwarding
For some reasons the afs tokenforwarding stuff has changed
siginificantly from v 2.9p2 to 2.9.9p2.
This makes it impossible to use public key authenticication in a
standart AFS environment.
I don't know the reasons for these changes.
In any case attached is a patch which restores the old behaviour.

Solaris 2.5.1 dirname() bug in libgen.a affects OpenSSH2.9.9p2 auth.c
I've discovered a problem with OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 under Solaris 2.5.1 .
In auth.c, secure_filename() walks upwards toward the user's home
directory or the filesystem root, verifying that no directories along
the way are group or world writable.
Solaris 2.5.1's dirname() function has a bug where dirname("/.ssh")
returns an empty string instead of "/".
This causes

AIX lastlog change?
Somewhere between 2.9p1 and 2.9.9p2 there was a change to auth2.c that
removed the userauth_reply() function. There were a few lines of code
in that function, #ifdef'd with WITH_AIXAUTHENTICATE, that handled the
AIX method of lastlog type stuff (specifically, a loginsuccess() call).
There is a similar call in auth1.c, down in do_authentication(), which
is still there in 2.9.9p2.
So with

OpenSSH vs AIX 4.3.3 => 5.1 utmp patch
The patch below follows changes in AIX utmp handling made between AIX 4.3.3
and 5.1. With it, utmp entries are properly recorded again.
The patch applies to OpenSSH 3.1p1, and seems to work fine. The co-worker
who sent me the patch hasn't tested backwards compatibility on AIX 4.3.3
systems.
