[2.2.0p1] patch: generic detection of correct getpgrp() invocation
Hi.
Several OSes have a getpgrp() function that takes an argument, unlike
what POSIX mandates. NeXT was covered, but SunOS wasn't. This
provides a generic solution through autoconf.

How to work out 3-way probabilities
Hello.
I have a quick question.
I try to use logit regression, to work out probabilities in the sport event.
I have work out probabilities for group of 2 players:
p1 - probability, what player1 will beat player2
p2 - probability, what player2 will beat player1
pt - tie probability, p1 <- 1 - p1 - p2;
Now i want to work out probabilities for group of 3 players, like:
pg1 - probability, what

Problems configuring OpenSSH 3.5p1 on Sol 5.8
Greetings.
I am having a problem getting OpenSSH to configure on a Solaris 5.8 box.
I have installed gcc 3.2.2, OpenSSL 0.9.6g.
The config script dies with the error:
OpenSSL version header not found.
OpenSSL is installed in /usr/local/ssl. A check of the config.log
file indicates that the test program appears to be core dumping. I
have included relavent (I hope) portions of config.log

Discovered this post an upgrade to 2.9.9p2, Solaris 2.5.1 dirname is
busted for paths like "/usr", returning "" rather than "/".

getpgrp
These days, sshd.c has:
static void
grace_alarm_handler(int sig)
{
...
if (getpgid(0) == getpid()) {
signal(SIGTERM, SIG_IGN);
killpg(0, SIGTERM);
}
sigdie(...);
}
however (really) old BSDs do not have getpgid(). They do have
getpgrp(), which does what we want here. The question is what to do if
we have neither: return the pid (and thus

configure.in reorder patch
Feb 12 CVS (sort of, see warning below)
I've had to change around some of the code in configure.in
to get some platforms to compile with the --with-tcp-wrappers option.
Basicly I have set it up to
check headers
check system libraries
check for optional packages
check functions
I have also tried to clean up the library order as it is important
on some platforms.
This patch works on

openssh2.3.0p1 and /etc/limits
Hi!
I wrote a small patch to enable /etc/limits support in openssh. nice
thing when you don't have PAM installed..
It is based on Ultor's openssh 1.x patch
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=secure-shell&m=96427677022741&w=2)
Works fine on slackware7.1. define USE_ETC_LIMITS in config.h , and
compile as usual.

How best to get around shadowing of executables by system()'s prepending of directories to Windows' PATH?
My question:
On Windows, R's system() command prepends several directories to those
in the Windows Path variable.
>From ?system
The search path for 'command' may be system-dependent: it will
include the R 'bin' directory, the working directory and the
Windows system directories before 'PATH'.
This shadows any executables on the Path that share a

cross compiling configure errors
Hi all!
I want to cross compile openssh to our own CPU and our embedded
Linux platform, however I get at least the following errors when running
configure:
checking whether snprintf correctly terminates long strings... configure:
error: can not run test program while cross compiling
checking whether getpgrp takes no argument... configure: error: cannot check
getpgrp if cross compiling

ssh hangs or gives Segmentation fault
Details of installation attached.
Effect: when I build and test (with full path names) ssh in the openssh...
directory, everything works fine. When I "install" it as per attached file
into a test-directory and run it from there, there are 2 phenomena:
either it just hangs, eating 96% of CPU
or it dies with a Segmentation fault (this is what happens most often)

[PATCH] image embedding can result in flac file corruption
Currently it's possible to corrupt FLAC file with flac and metaflac tools.
If image filesize is just slightly less than 2^24 bytes then the size of
PICTURE metadata block will be more that this limit.
The first patch (fix1.patch) adds additional check in /share/grabbag/picture.c/read_file()
and removes rather useless check from FLAC__metadata_object_picture_set_data().
It's enough to fix

Nested Fixed Effects - basic questions
Hi R people,
I have a very basic question to ask - I'm sorry if it's been asked before, but I searched the archives and could not find an answer. All the examples I found were much more complicated/nuanced versions of the problem - my question is much more simple.
I have data with multiple, nested fixed effects (as I understand it, fixed effects are specified by the experimental design
