$MAIL surprise
I got email yesterday from a user who had run 'from' and got the message "No mail in /home/stevev/$USER" (where $USER was that person's username). At first I thought he had pilfered my .bashrc, but on further investigation I discovered that my home directory path had been compiled in to sshd, because the configuration tests assume that the directory part of $MAIL is the

Tru64 UNIX SIA in 2.5.2p1 is hosed (still)
The recent patch posted by Steve VanDevender <stevev at darkwing.uoregon.edu> for fixing the session code on Tru64 isn't quite right -- it still fails in the case of NO tty being allocated. The problem is that s->tty is a char[TTYSZ] rather than a char *, and hence can't hold a NULL. Calling sia_ses_init() with the tty being an empty string doesn't signify no tty, and

Trying to debug a WinXP - Win2000 ADSproblem..HELP!
Now I could be way of base here, but I run 2 samba web servers with approx 8 people working with them. So my exp is limited. When I got here the boxes were set up with server level security and I had tons of problems with them. When I reformatted the units, I actually joined the samba boxes to the domain and set the security to "domain" I found these steps in an old version of Linux-Mag,

Upgraded to 2.9p1 with no luck..
Howdy, After upgrading to 2.9 (OpenSSH_2.9p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090600f) I'm unable to ssh between two systems any more (the two that I've upgraded). I've recompiled from the original source several times, each time with no errors, regenerated host keys, regenerated client keys (using rsa), etc., to no avail. Below are some relevant snippets of debugging output

Do you know if the same symptoms appear with Windows 2000? In your conf file, what is the autentication set to? Share, Domain etc? Trying to debug a WinXP - Win2000 ADS problem.. HELP!
Sorry for the log log file dump, but while looking at some problems mapping drives, I've run across some stuff. Below is a chunk of my log when I successfully map a network drive from a WinXP client to a Samba 3.0-alpha18 server. The thing that bothers me is that it looks like my DOMAIN\USERNAME combination isn't being honored and I'm getting in based on a check to the locally

Strange problem from "identical" hosts
Long post.. sorry. Ok.. I've got three systems, all running openssh-3.0.2p1. As a matter of fact, they were installed from the same built tree, so I know they are the same. Here's the deal. I've got three systems, call them source1, source2 and target. All are HP-UX 11.0 systems installed from the same tree. Source1 and source2 both have thier root rsa pub keys in target's

auth-pam.c support for pam_chauthtok()
When we installed OpenSSH 2.1.1p4 on our Solaris systems, our users noticed that it did not honor password expiration consistently with other Solaris login services. The patch below is against OpenSSH 2.2.0p1 and adds support for PAM password changes on expiration via pam_chauthtok(). A brief summary of changes: auth-pam.c: * change declaration of pamh to "static pam_handle_t *pamh",

/usr/bin/ld: warning: libz.so.1,
Hello CentOS, I''m compiling a custom install of PHP, and I''m seeing this: /usr/bin/ld: warning: libz.so.1, needed by /usr/lib/libfreetype.so, may conflict with libz.so.0 I thought I''d quickly throw this out there and see if this is an issue anyone is aware of and what this means. A quick search hasn''t pulled up anything useful so far. -- Best regards,

RMySQL installation: libz missing
Hi I run suse linux 9.1 and I installed MySQL server, client, devel, bench. DBI is installed, when I try to install RMySQL I get an error saying, that libz is missing. :( Orange Box? Please?
I've heard that it's possible to run Orange Box on WINE. I've tried several tutorials but can't get it to work - I got it all to install, and Steam pops up no problem, but the games crash at the loading screen and bring me back to my desktop. I even tried the original Half-Life - does the same thing. I tried using the command line to see if there would be any error or debug

Problem reading in external data and assigning data.frames within R
Hey there, I apologize if this is an irritatingly simple question ... I'm a new user. I can't understand why R flips the sign of all data values when reading in external text files (tab delimited or csv) with the read.delim or read.csv functions. The signs of data values also seem to be flipped after assigning a new data.frame from within R (xnew <-- edit(data.frame()). What am
